7 FEB: The Romanian president, Klaus Iohannis, has accused the governing Social Democratic Party of plunging his country into crisis. It follows a week of mass street protests, which forced the government to abandon a decree decriminalising some forms of corruption. But about 500,000 demonstrators rallied across Romania on Sunday, despite the government revoking a controversial decree that had fuelled their discontent.
