I often am asked the best place to buy costumes, understandable some people just do not have the time or inclination to make their outfits and that’s ok. I wanted to be able to honestly recommend a place to buy costumes, so when Cosplay sky reached out to me I thought it would be a good opportunity to check out there stuff.
I wanted to show you that you do not need to make everything yourself to Cosplay. For me that is part of the fun, and how I can express my creativity. Though There is nothing wrong if you just want to dress up and getting your picture taken at a con. There is no one way right way to cosplay.
I saw they had a Dr. Strange costumes and had loved the design, so I requested that particular costume. When I received the costume I was impressed with the overall quality for the price, it easily could have been worn, straight out of the bag. I did not want to change to much of the base costume because that would defeat the purpose of this project, but I did want to add my own flava to it.
I will break down the costume from top the bottom
Wig – Used an existing lace front I had and added a bump, wooden hair clip and some clip in white extensions.
Cape – Aged it (and will be shortening it), changed the snaps to be larger.
Clasps – Painted and aged
Eye of Agamotto – Amazon purchased
Tunic – Took it in on the side and sleeves. Aged
Over Jacket – Aged, stitched down pleats, added larger snaps
Boots – added blue elastic
Pants – REMOVED :D
Sling rings – Etsy purchased
Wrist bands – Made them using various materials, aged.
Where I really changed things up and focus on a certain set of skills was the belt area. I wanted to create a more feminine silhouette by changing the belt to a corset. those
Corset - Using a 2nd hand brown leather jacket, patterned, boned and lined the corset.
Big Ring – Made it out PVC pipe, took a mold, cast it with metal powder. Wrapped with twine and heavy brown thread. Aged.
Blue Belt – Found a black belt at a Goodwill store, dyed blue.
Woven belt – Purchased from Joanns, had to dye it darker, added copper flat stock (added texture)
Black lower belt – Used black leather and wove it through brown angled leather.
Sling ring tie – used eight strand needlepoint thread, friendship bracelet techniques.
