Dutch company Mosa Meat announced they have received enough funding to make and sell artificially grown meat to restaurants starting in 2021. ___ The company presented the world’s first lab-grown beef burger five years ago, and has since raised 7.5 million euros ($8.8 million USD), mainly from M Ventures and Bell Food Group. Mosa Meat has also received 1 million euros from Google co-founder Sergey Brin. ___ Mosa Meat, which is based in Maastricht, hopes to reach industrial-scale production, at roughly $1 per burger patty, in 2-3 years after the first marketable burger is ready for sale. ___ Mosa Meat uses a small sample of cells taken from live animals, which they then feed with nutrients to grow into larger strands of muscle tissue. The company states it could make as many as 80,000 quarter pounders from a single sample of cells.
