8 MAY: The French president-elect, Emmanuel Macron, is to begin the task of forming a new government ahead of his inauguration later this week. Elected on Sunday with two-thirds of valid votes, Mr Macron admitted the task facing him was daunting. He's to return to the campaign trail with his newly-established independent centrist movement, "En Marche!" (or On The Move), aiming to transform its political momentum into the parliamentary seats required to drive through his legislative agenda. At thirty-nine, Mr Macron @emmanuelmacron will be the youngest ever French president and the first in the post-war era to be chosen from outside the country's two main political parties.
