It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear friend Waylon donkey.
We rescued Waylon 26 years ago in 1993. Waylon was one of our oldest residents: he was nearly 35 years old. Although Waylon was described as being aggressive (the reason he needed rescue placement), he quickly established himself as one of the friendliest residents at the sanctuary -- he loved to snuggle up next to caregivers and visitors and flash them his infamous big-lipped smile.
We mourn Waylon's passing, but stand in awe of his incredible legacy: lives touched, smiles offered, friends cared for and protected. Waylon was truly someone, not something, and we are honored to have known him.
Rest in peace, little guy. We'll miss you. 💚
