Finally! TLC's Fan-Funded Album is On Its Way-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After more than two years of fundraising via a Kickstarter campaign, TLC is expected to release their fan-funded album by this summer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Bill Diggins, the manager of the group, announced the news Monday (Feb. 27) via a post on the album's Kickstarter page. He stated that while the official date is still in the works, the album is tentatively scheduled for the end of June. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Back in January 2015, the legendary R&B group announced plans for them to release their fifth and final album, and for it to be funded by their fans. Pledges started at $5, with higher donations receiving rewards such as autographed records, meet and greets with the artists, and even a movie night with one of the members. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To no surprise, the campaign surpassed its goal of $150,000 within a week and after a month, they had reached $430,255. But when the group failed to present an album, fans began to believe that they had been scammed out of their money. They were so livid that they began a TLCIsGoingToJailParty hashtag on Twitter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Billboard reports that in Diggins' Kickstarter post, he "apologized and explained the reasoning behind the delay, including the process of finishing an arena tour and difficulty coordinating schedules with writers and producers." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Diggins stated, “I could go on in more detail … but the simple fact is that T-Boz & Chilli were inspired to make a record that they could be proud of and they would not settle for less and sometimes you just cannot rush art.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The upcoming album will be the group’s first studio album since the death of founding member Lisa “ LeftEye” Lopes who passed away in 2002. lisalopes
