18 MAY: Nasa uses a fleet of research aircraft to take images of Earth's polar ice. This is a time-lapse video of Greenland's Southeast glaciers taken from the cockpit of a P-3 Orion aircraft. It is part of a project called Operation IceBridge which is trying to get a better understanding of connections between polar regions and the global climate system.
