Friends, Future, and Respect: jehovahhthickness
Dawg I hope my future kids respect me because I'm such a softy and I'm gonna
have such a hard time saying no to them
 uncleromeo
one of my close friends uses a "don't say no" approach to her parenting style.
its more of a "let them say no" style but it works.
when they ask for something, like "can I go..." or "can I have..." she responds
with "is there any reason you can't/shouldn't?"
no matter their answer, she asks.."why?" basically asking them to elaborate. a
simple yes or no doesn't cut it.
it builds their language skills and understanding of how their actions yield
 positive and negative results.
if they know their behavior hasn't been satisfactory they may still be rewarded
 for acknowledging it.
even if they try to lie... well she basically catches them in a lie.
after talking it out she asks again, "should I let you have.../go...?
even though she wants to give them everything they ask for, she also wants
them to know (and understand what it means) whether or not they deserve it...
and it really seems to be working.
do you guys think this would work? -lilli
