“700%” lol I wish
I had to check just to make sure I was remembering the numbers right because they still boggle my mind a little bit. This paper
estimates that a 1000 unit vial of Humalog (insulin lispro)–which in
my case lasts an average of 10 days–costs about US$5 to develop and manufacture as
of 2016. Meanwhile, the last vial I picked up from the pharmacy cost
over $300 before insurance.
That’s a 6,000% markup.
