Netflix announced the release of a documentary about Fyre Festival, the failed music festival put on by Billy McFarland and Ja Rule in 2017. “Fyre” is directed by Chris Smith and produced by Jerry Media (Fuckjerry’s media and film division), in association with Vice Studios and Matte Projects. ___ The doc will be released on January 18th, and follows the series of events that lead up to the failure of what was supposed to be a luxury music festival set on a small island in the Bahamas. The festival was promoted by celebrities and other influencers through social media, and was alleged to feature performances by Blink-182, Migos and Disclosure. However the event fell apart through disorganization and lack of lodging accommodations, food, and other facilities required to host thousands of guests. ___ McFarland, 26, was recently sentenced to six years in prison on two counts of wire fraud. McFarland pleaded guilty to defrauding 80 investors as well as falsifying documents to fund the 2017 music festival.
