On Saturday afternoon NASA will launch its Parker Space Probe on a mission to “touch the sun.” Parker will launch out of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station to the outer layer of the sun’s atmosphere, the corona. This will mark the first time a spacecraft has flown through the corona. The probe has been built to travel at up to 430,000 miles per hour and withstand the 2,500 degree Fahrenheit temperatures it will be exposed to. ___ “We need to get an up-close view to see this solar processes, to improve our understanding of how the sun works. This will help us understand how stars interact with [the] planets that orbit them and may give rise to new technologies,” said astrophysicist Hakeem Oluseyi.
