Should the former Governor-General Peter Hollingworth lose his $500,000 pension, for misleading a child abuse inquiry and allowing a child rapist to continue abusing children ?
The royal commission recently found that the former Governor-General Peter Hollingworth deliberately and knowingly mis-led the Brisbane inquiry a formal child sexual abuse investigation, into sexual abuse in December 2002 when he was governor-general.
He misled that inquiry about his contact with people, including victims who had brought the abuse to his attention as far back as the 1990s.
Wonder why he might want to do that, could it be because he threw their complaints out rather than investigating them so he didn't have to investigate his fellow Anglican ministers ????? That's a question we will leave up to you the FACAA to answer.
So while in power and supposedly serving the Australian people as the Governor-General, he mis-led a child abuse inquiry, and some people are still saying he has "earned" his half a million dollar a year pension.... seems legit, but of course it gets much worse.
The former Governor-General knew full well that renowned experts had said that in all likelihood serial-offending priest, John Elliot would further abuse, and yet still allowed him to continue in the parish and retire with benefits.
Elliot later pleaded guilty to counts of sexual assault and abuse of boys and was jailed. Yet Mr Hollingworth not only knowingly allowed him to stay in his parish where he continued to abuse more children, but also allowed him to retire with full benefits, you know we wouldn't want a child rapist to lose those benefits....
Dr Hollingworth's handling of child sex abuse and his public comments on the matter caused him to resign in May 2003, just 23 months after being appointed governor-general by former prime minister John Howard.
So John Howard appoints him as Governor-General and 23 months later he is forced to resign because of how horrifically he botched the handling of child rape allegations against his fellow Anglican ministers and after that much time served he is worth a $500,000 per year pension !
So FACAA, does he deserve this pension, while in office he deliberately and knowingly mis-led an inquiry into child abuse, and also knowingly let a child rapist continue to have his diocese and access to victims.
What was John Howard thinking appointing this guy to the position of Governor-General ? Seriously, was it a dare ?
How could he possibly think that this "man" was a good choice for the position ?
Ok, so he made a mistake, a big one, why not redeem himself by immediately recommending Hollingworth's pension be revoked entirely ? Why not step up and say "this guy was not the right man for the job, he abused his power and as such he should not have his pension" Why not save this great nation half a million dollars a year (plus expenses) and take this blundering bureaucrat's pension clean off him ?
We know a charity that for $100k a year can make a major dent in child abuse, that's just 20% of his income, much better use of our taxes.
What scares us even more than all of these facts is the fact that the Royal Commission revealed this news and only The Australian ran a small story on it and 9News gave it a little bit more coverage.
Where is the public outcry ? Where is the newspolls ? Where are the live crosses to John Howard's house for a comment ?
A convicted drug smuggler comes back to Australia and news stations spent millions sending crews in cars and on the back of motorbikes to chase her down the streets.
Our former Governor-General gets busted lying to a child abuse inquiry WHILE IN POWER and it barely causes a ripple in the news casts.
Seriously well done to The Australian and 9News for covering this but wow.. if our priorities aren't all backwards.
So FACAA you tell us what you believe, should former Governor-General Peter Hollingworth lose his $500,000-per-year pension and benefits package for "misleading" a top-level inquiry and allowing a child rapist to keep his parish ?
What do you think? We think he should be arrested and charged with perjury for lying to the Brisbane Inquiry into child abuse, we would like to see him stripped of his pension and put behind bars.
Considering Derryn Hinch was put behind bars for not removing a post about a convicted child rapist "fast enough,"according to the judge who placed the order.
We ask how can a man who has been proven to have lied (or "mis-led") the Brisbane Inquiry not be even charged for doing so ?
Well done once again to the Royal Commission, the commissioners have spent countless hours hearing evidence and statements and we at FACAA can not thank them enough for their hard work and dedication.
Also their lack of fear, they have gone after a John Howard appointed former Governor-General without fear ! Sadly we can not say the same about our press... (A)
