Six Howard Employees Fired For Embezzling Financial Aid Money; Twitter Blames Tyrone – blogged by @MsJennyb (swipe) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last year, six Howard employees were fired in connection with a financial aid scandal at the school. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to reports, the university launched an internal investigation into the matter and found several employees had misappropriated university-based grants. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The University president confirmed the news on Wednesday after an anonymous whistleblower spilled the tea in a now-deleted blog post on Medium.com. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to Wayne Frederick, the scandal was brought to his attention in December of 2016, which, in turn, prompted the internal investigation. Upon further research, the president found that between 2007 and 2016 several employees had been receiving university-based grants and tuition discounts, which were worth more than the cost of tuition. Problem is, the employees were pocketing the difference. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Although Frederick did not comment on how much was stolen from the school, the anonymous writer claimed the employees got off with as much as a million bucks. However, Frederick did say the incident was reported to the Department of Education in July of 2017 and the employees were fired two months later. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ But now, nearly a year later, the news has resurfaced and Howard students and alum are pissed, as many believe they were ripped off by the scandal. In fact, several have called out Tyrone Hankerson, who is said to be one of the student employees who benefited from the scandal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ According to several Twitter users, Mr. Hankerson used the stolen money and cashed out at the store, copping fur coats, designer bags, and the works. Apparently, he even wrote a rap song about his scandalous efforts. Check out some of the replies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’re missing money from between 2007 and 2016, you better call Tyrone!
