As a tanker in the Sherbrooke Fusiliers Regiment, Denis was
part of the D-Day invasion landings. Due to the quick
success of allied efforts, the Germans were forced to
incorporate new tactics to slow the advancing forces
Snipers were left behind, in place of the retreating Germans,
to harass allied troops. One morning, as Denis stood up out
of his tank, a sniper's shot rang out. The bullet impacted the
prayer book seen here, which was in his left breast pocket
and ricocheted into his arm. This prayer book, which was
issued to every soldier on the battlefield, seemingly saved
 Denis' life that day
The telegraphs shown came through the train station, and
were sent to his family, notifying them of his condition.
Because of his injuries, Denis received the Wound Stripe
(mounted on the left of the frame)
