@ellenpompeo what I really want to say is, thank you. Thank you for all the smiles you have put on my face, for all of the positivity & wisdom that you share, and most of all, thank you for making me feel like I matter. I’m 2 years clean from self-harm today and you are the reason why I stopped. I can never thank you enough for that. It’s been difficult at times, & there were days when I wanted to give up. When I didn’t want to live anymore. But then one day, I tweeted you that I was 407 days clean from self-harm & you told me that you were so proud of me. That day was supposed to be the day that I fell backwards instead of going forward and start from day 1 all over again. But that didn’t happen. From that day on, I felt like I had someone rooting for me. And it meant the world to me when you told me how proud you were. It was actually the first time someone had noticed my accomplishment, and I will be forever grateful that you were that person. It was difficult not having a positive role model in my life for most of my childhood. But when I started looking up to you, everything changed. I changed. Because of you, I became a better person & I started to see myself as somebody worthy of living. I never thought I would come this far in life, and I truly do not know where I would be right now if you were not my role model. You have given me the strength and courage to believe in myself, to believe in others, and to believe that through all of the darkness, there’s always light. You inspire me to keep moving forward even when I’m at my lowest point. Every time I find myself almost wanting to start over from where I was two years ago, I think of the day when you told me that you were proud of me. That’s why I’ve stayed so strong, because of you. So thank you. Thank you for inspiring me to be happy and to appreciate everything around me. Thank you for making me feel like I am valued and important, even when I have no reason to feel that way. Because of you, I know what I want to do with myself and do what makes me happy. I will always be grateful that you are the reason why I am still here & still going strong. You are an inspiration to me and always will be❤ -Carrie
