THANK YOU JR
On the final day of his WWE contract, I want to publicly thank Jim Ross and credit him for so much of my success in the world of sports-entertainment. Long before my 1998 date with destiny in Pittsburgh, JR was instrumental in so many pivotal moments of my career - from somehow making me a bigger star despite losing often in my first six month run in WCW (November 1989-June 1990) to almost single-handedly bringing me into the fold in WWE in 1996 (when Mr McMahon was not exactly sold on Mrs Foley’s baby boy) to the sit-down interview that brought me to the next level in 1997, to calling many of my biggest matches of my career. He added depth to so many characters, credibility and excitement to so many rivalries, and made so many of us care about the product he was calling, simply because HE cared so much about the product he was calling. In so many cases, he was the difference in turning a good match into a great match, and a great match into the stuff of legend. In the case of my 1998 Cell match with The Undertaker, JR didn’t need God as his witness to confirm that I had been broken in half; the word of the greatest play-by-play man in the business was authority enough.
