A speech by Milo Yiannopoulos, a conservative and controversial Breitbart News writer, was canceled at UC Berkeley on Wednesday due to violent protests by demonstrators that ignited a fire in a campus courtyard and caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage. Some of the protestors threw metal barricades and smashed windows. It is estimated that 1,500 people had gathered outside of the student union where Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak. Police clashed with protesters, and much of the university was placed on lockdown. _ President Trump tweeted Thursday morning "If U.C. Berkeley does not allow free speech and practices violence on innocent people with a different point of view - NO FEDERAL FUNDS?"
