Meet tiny, seriously adorable Hunter who IS ON THE NYC KILL LIST ... Just 5 yrs old, a tiny 9 lbs, if you believe his prior owner, he barks & growls at everything & everyone (NOT seen @ ACC) BUT the CAT he lived with. HOWEVER, he is also described as ENERGETIC, FRIENDLY, AFFECTIONATE, & PLAYFUL. He is a healthy little guy who, yes, could use some training, loves to play with stuffies & rope toys & is housebroken too. A loving, experienced, adult-only home would be best for him & to FOSTER or ADOPT him, to SAVE his LIFE, you have to apply with rescues, so. PLEASE, DO! APPLY NOW but ** HURRY ** He is about OUT OF TIME!!! :(

Previous owners favorite thing about hunter is that he is friendly with her. He eats dry food. He enjoys playing with stuffed animals and ropes. Hunter is not crate trained but sleeps in his crate. Hunter will pull excitedly on the leash when on walks but not all the time.

How is this dog around strangers?: Around strangers, Hunter will growl and bark at them.
How is this dog around children?: Barks and growls.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Barks and growls.
How is this dog around cats?: Did well with the cat in the home
Resource guarding:: Yes, Hunter guards food, toy, and treats.
Bite history:: Hunter bit a 4 year old child in the home. The child climbed onto the bed to get a toy and Hunter lunged and bit him. (REMEMBER, he guards his toys. The child should have been kept away from Hunter while he had his toy).
House trained:: Yes

Other Notes:: Hunter has received a bath from the previous owner and he may attempt to jump out. Hunter may like to be carried but sometimes he doesn't. Hunter is not afraid of fireworks or storms.

He needs a slow approach and time to warm up. He should never be forced to interact with new people, and should be allowed to greet and initiate an interaction at his own pace.
Place with a New Hope partner: Due to Hunter's behavior in his previous home, we recommend he be placed with a New Hope partner. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Hunter to acclimate comfortably to his new environment; force-free, reward based training only is advised when introducing him to new and unfamiliar situations.

Fearful/potential for defensive aggression: Hunter is reported to bark, growl and snap at new people, as well as children. In his previous home, he bit a 4 year old child on the face, resulting in broken skin. He needs a slow approach and time to adjust in an adult-only home.
