Two Teens Plot a Columbine-similar Attack Against a High School Near Atlanta-blogged by: @RaquelHarrisTV ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Authorities are saying two teens' plans to attack a high school are similar to that of the 1999 Columbine High School mass shooting that happened in Colorado. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 17-year-olds, Alfred Dupree and Victoria McCurley are being charged with criminal attempt to commit murder for making threats against EtowahHighSchool and its staff, said Cherokee County sheriff’s Sgt. Marianne Kelley to reporters. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ At a news conference Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds said, "I talked to the detective earlier and I asked him, I said ‘what would you describe this as’ and he indicated that this would have been a Columbine-type incident in his opinion." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ A community leader tipped off investigators about some of Dupree's journal entries that support charges against the duo. Kelley visited Dupree's family on Monday in regards to the incident. After reading the entries, authorities were led to McCurley. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ "They had detailed plans of what they wanted to do and how they wanted to carry it out," Reynolds said. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It all came together once officials did a search of homes in which they found firearms, some type of powdered substance and a flammable device. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Authorities are still questioning what the motive was behind their plans but she feels mental health may be the issue. Both teens were evaluated before being arrested and charged. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It was determined that the two would be denied bond after their court appearance on Thursday. Etowah High is just 30 miles from the city of Atlanta.
