Cat training: vet-and-wild The weird wavs l 've accidentally trained my cat to wake me up I can't stand animals that are obnoxious in the mornings when they want to get up and be fed. So, l've taken a pretty hard stance on ignoring obnoxious morning behavior to avoid reinforcing it. However, Garrus is a very fast learner, and he's noticed that there's a few things I'm really bad at ignoring. I've created the most bizarre alarm 1. Chowing on my phono oord. Ho only dooo it in tho morning when he wants me to get up. I've never seen him do it any other time. It's really hard for me to ignore my cat chewing on something plugged into an outlet. And so I have accidentally trained him to chew on it when I'm being stubborn and I don't want to get out of bed. Solution: unplug the phone and go back to sleep. 2. Swatting at my curtains. He likes to do it when he has the night zoomies and l'm trying to sleep instead of giving him attention. It's a really annoying sound. Like, REALLY annoying. And in my half-asleep state, my initial response was to grumble and tell him to knock it off. Didn't work so well for a cat that is doing an obnoxious behavior to get attention He didn't care that I was yelling at him-he was getting the attention he wanted. The one time l was just too exhausted to deal with him and didn't respond, he gave up pretty quickly. That'o whon I roalizod ho'd boon playing mo. Now I juot ignore it and he stops pretty fast. 3. Changing the temperature on my snake's HerpStat. I don't even know how he started this one, but one day I was lounging in my bed in the morning and I heard the HerpStat beeping like it does when the temp has been changed. And l panicked because I didn't want my snake being burnt to a crisp! Big mistake. My sudden movement out of bed reinforced Garrus, and for the next few days l'd wake up to beeping. I don't know if he was biting it, or nudging it, or what but my attempts to scold him only caused him to make happy "murrrrp" noises because I was acknowledging his presence. I have now placed the HerpStat in a high open drawer so he can't reach it. But I'm still kind of in shock that he learned to do this. Little punk. l think Pavlov is laughing at me clickercake Accidentally reinforced behaviors are an absolute riot clickerpunk Omg my mornings are EXACTLY like this. But my cat has discovered that if she scratches the floor i shoot out of bed because i dont want her peeing on the floor or something.. The moment i sit up in bed she goes "brrrp!" because im awake.. Damn smart cats Source: vet-and-wild 287 notes Cat training

Kindness is punk as fuck: undercover-underdog For those of you who don't know, I work at an anarchist co-op coffee shop Apparently, all the Chicano/Cholo boys in my neighborhood have caught on the the fact that I sneak food and stuff to all the little punk kids and homeless kids at the coffee shop There are three in particular who call me Mom Not Mami, not Ma, Mom The rest refer to me as "Miss" They've decided to always have one of the three of them there with me on my night shifts. (Especially after they witnessed the last bad shift where I had to kick a bunch of tweakers out. Said tweakers lit my fucking bulletin board on fire.) Tonight, one of the boys actually charged up a crackhead who wouldn't get out when I told him to leave About an hour later, I was emptying bus tubs when that same lovely boy walked in and wetted a wash rag. I asked what he was doing and he told me not to worry. So, I went about my business, doing dishes, bussing the main dining tables, etc. I'd left a broom in the smoking room and a fresh trash bag in the bathroom for once I was done with the dishes When I walked out, everything was spotless and the trash had been replaced. He'd wiped all my tables, swept, mopped, and emptied all the ash trays He'd also picked the lock on the bathroom so his friend could take out the trash for me. (Which l'm not sure whether l should scold him for. Haha) They snuck around and did my closing shift duties to thank me for keeping them warm and fed I'm fucking crying spaffy-jimble Kindness begets kindness orc-lady-unabi Picking a lock so you can take out trash for someone who's nice to you is the most chaotic good thing i've ever heard. <3 Source: undercover-underdog 100,519 notes Jul 19th, 2018 Kindness is punk as fuck

Subs being the worst: this-isnt-my-bra Once my friend Henry was accused of wearing wireless headphones by a substitute so she said for him to hand them over so he took them off and handed them to her. Then later on she asked him a question and he didn't respond so she said it louder and he still didn't respond. She asked why he was not responding and he said cant understand you ma am, you took my hearing aids." lolodapsycho HOLY SHIT mamoru one time we had a sub that was handing back papers and called my name. I asked if someone could grab it for me and she started mocking me for not even standing up. taunting me asking why I was not walking up to the front to get the paper myself my classmates went dead silent and after the sub's laughter ended someone informed her that the wheelchair parked nearby belonged to me silver-rayn123 I had a sub in English once, on presentation day. And everyone goes up and does their thing, and then its my turn. The whole time im stuttering and mixing up my words, having to stop and re-say my sentences. The rest of the class is used to this and claps. However, by the time its over, the teacher is 100% done Starts saying horrible thing about how im going to have to get over my 'fear of public speaking' and how she's heard 8 year olds give better presentations (plus worse things but I don't really member them). By then im in tears and orn the brink of a panic attack, and then she starts telling me off for crying The rest of the class is horrified. Then this boy stands up. He never been my friend and we never really got along, but he'd never bullied me. He told her in a pissed off, cold voice that in freshmen year I got a concussion and that I never really recovered from it, so all that was medical related and l couldn't help it. Then he starts telling her off and the rest of the class joins him The teacher is mortified and tries to cover her ass, but the whole class walked out and that boy took me by the shoulders and we all walked to the principles office and told him what had happened. Lets just say she isn't teaching anymore Also, turns out that boy had a sister like me, who couldn't really speak. We've been best friends for 8 years and i'll be his best woman at his wedding next year. The moral is that Teachers, even subs, and adults shouldn't scold kids before knowing the whole story, because shit like that can fuck up kids self-esteem for the rest of their life Subs being the worst

From A Dog’s Perspective.
: The 10 Commandments (from a dog's perspective) 1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years: any separation from you will be painful for me. Remember that before you adopt me. 2. Give me time to understand what you want from me; don't be impatient, short-tempered, or irritable. 3. Place your trust in me and I will always trust you back. Respect is earned not given as an inalienable right. 4. Don't be angry with me for long and don't lock me up as punishment; I am not capable of understanding why l only know I have been rejected. You have your work, entertainment, and friends, but I only have you. 5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I do understand your voice and your tone. You only have to look at my tail G. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it, and if it's cruel, it may affect me forever. 7. Please don't hit me. I can't hit back but I can bite and scratch, and I really don't ever want to do that. 8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative. obstinate, or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right foods or I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak. It may be I am just dog-tired. 9. Take care of me when I get old. You too will grow old and may also need love, care, comfort, and attention. 10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch" or "Let it happen in my absence" Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, regardless of what you do, I will always love you.
From A Dog’s Perspective.
