Alive, Ariel, and Bad: waltdisneyconfessions It bothers me how male characters like Triton, the Sultan, and Chief Tui can all act very overprotective and try to stop their daughters from leaving home, but it's only Mother Gothel whose a villain because of it. It feels like a sexist double standard. takashi0: rainbowloliofjustice: lethal-cuddles: a-salty-scythe-meister: kayrowhitesyrup: someoneintheshadow456: valarie-lynn: waltdisneyconfessions: It bothers me how male characters like Triton, the Sultan, and Chief Tui can all act overprotective and try to stop their daughters from leaving home, but it’s only Mother Gothel whose a villain because of it. It feels like a sexist double standard. Triton was afraid of humans because his wife was killed, Ariel also had pretty much free range of the ocean if she had time to amass that massive collection. Sultan was…a sultan? Also probably kept Jasmine inside for her own protection. Chief Tui was terrified of the ocean because of past experience. Gothel kidnapped Rapunzel and only cared about the magic that kept her young. Yeah, totally the same situation and the only difference is sexual bias. Also…Frollo? Also Sultan said “I’m not going to be alive forever, I want to make sure you are provided for and taken care of” as the reason for why he wants to get Jasmine married. And he even says to Jafar “Jasmine hated those guys, she can’t marry someone she hates.” That shows he didn’t want her to be unhappy in her marriage. Triton and Chief Tui know that life is dangerous. As someone who is an older sibling and helped raising her younger siblings I know that very powerful overprotective feeling. You know the dangers of the world. You know the world is uncaring and unkind. You know people aren’t afraid to play dirty and to hurt innocent people to get what they want. So you try to shield your children/siblings from such a scary world because you don’t want them to get hurt. You don’t want your child/sibling dying because someone was so uncaring of another life. Could triton and Chief tui be more understanding of their children’s dreams and passions? Yes! But again these are parents who faces the harshness of the world and wanted to protect their children from that. Jasmin is a princess, royalty are always going to have someone try to kill them, invade their lands, etc. at least sultan was allowing his daughter to choose the man she loved. He was aware of the dangers she faced but still wanted to make her happy. A lot of Disney parents are loving and caring and they want the best for their children, though sometimes like all parents they mess up along the way. Raising and caring for another human is tough. Frollo and mother Gothal are seen as villains because they aren’t trying to protect their “children” from the harshness of the world. Oh yes they say they are but it’s a way to control them. It’s a way to keep their “children “ under their thumbs. It wasn’t done out of love and care and a protectiveness. But control. Gothal only want repunzal for her magic hair to stay young forever. And Frollo didn’t think twice about killing a BABY! ^^ Disney dads truely only wanted what they felt was best for their daughters (sans Frollo). Mother Gothal kidnapped a baby and emotionally and mentally abused her for 18 years. ALL TO STAY YOUNG FOREVER BY USING HER HAIR! fucks sake The reason that mother Gothel is treated like a villain is that she has no actual care towards Rapunzel other than her magic hair. Literally none. Every other time, she’s emotionally and mentally abusive towards Rapunzel, lies to her, and gaslights her. She’s manipulative and everything she did was for her own benefit, not out of genuine love and care for Rapunzel. That’s why she is treated like a villain. It isn’t a sexist double standard when she is genuinely abusive. Meanwhile, Chief Tui, Sultan, and Triton have made mistakes dealing with their children but what parent doesn’t make mistakes? It shows them being people. People who wanted the best for their children even if they were overbearing or overprotective. One thing that has been relatively consistent among Disney is that they show parents as people who are not as understanding as they should be towards their kids but ultimately still good people who just want to do the best thing for their kids rather than showing them as ungodly saints who never make mistakes and never do anything wrong. Hell, even though she isn’t Disney per se, you could easily include Merida’s mother as a counterpoint in all of this. Elinor behaves in similar ways that Chief Tui, Sultan, and Triton do regarding their daughters. Elinor is overprotective and overbearing, she destroyed Merida’s bow out of frustration and immediately regretted it, etc. Yet she is never shown to actually be a bad person. She’s shown to have made mistakes, just like they did, but not an awful person or villain. #tldr; the reason mother gothel is a villain is because she’s emotionally abusive#me thinks the person who submitted this didn’t really watch the movie#because you can see every moment of abusive that she puts rapunzel through…#STARTIGN WITH KIDNAPPING HER

But it’s usually right near all the other soaps and her loofah, so I think it’s probably something she actually uses while under the water.” “I really don’t know how it all works,” Ferris added. “All I know is that in between Sarah getting into the shower and getting out, there’s a rock involved.” Ferris, who said he was unable to determine exactly when in the showering process the rock first comes into play, told reporters he is equally clueless about what part of the body the rock is used on. In addition, Ferris said he occasionally inspects the roughly 3-ounce object when he’s in Milstein’s shower, and told reporters that the rock is nearly always wet and is occasionally moved to slightly different spots within the bathtub, leading him to believe that his girlfriend uses it fairly regularly. He also noted his girlfriend’s bathing time never seems particularly longer than the average person’s considering she has added a rock into the mix. Ferris added that all attempts to incorporate the rock into his own shower routine have ultimately been unsuccessful. “I tried rubbing it on my skin once, and it hurt,” Ferris said, concluding that pouring soap and water directly onto the rock neither made it softer nor easier on his skin. “I could maybe see how it could get some dirt off of your body, but it seems too painful to work. Her skin usually looks nice though, so maybe I’m wrong.” “There is a chance it could be a hair thing,” Ferris continued. “Maybe she rubs the rock in her hair? I don’t know.” Ferris confirmed he has considered numerous reasons for why his girlfriend uses the rock in the shower, including that she has some type of skin condition, that the rock is some sort of weird tradition her family has, or that everyone uses rocks in the shower and he has been out of the loop the entire time. “It could be for cleaning the bathtub,” said Ferris, adding he once suspected the rock was a device for making the bathroom smell nice, but then noticed it had no discernible smell whatsoever. “Like every few weekends she scrubs the tub with this rock? I guess I could see Sarah doing that.” While Ferris said he is mostly certain that the rock was initially purchased at a home goods store of some kind, he was not able to completely rule out the possibility it was just a rock that his girlfriend found on the ground and decided to put in her shower. “I wonder if I should put a rock in my shower for when she’s over here,” said Ferris, who said he once tried to locate a rock at a Bed Bath Beyond, but left after not wanting to walk up to a sales clerk and ask them where they kept their “shower rocks.” “Or I could just tell her to leave a rock at my place if she wants.” “I’m probably not going to do that,” Ferris added. At press time, a visibly perplexed Ferris had seen the rock sitting in Milstein’s trashcan and then looked in the shower to see another rock sitting in its place.

You do remember that I disagree with the majority opinion, right? Also, people were calling her a Mary Sue from the first movie. Sometimes based on things that literally didn’t happen, like “being a better pilot than Han”. On a ship she had literally never seen before in her life until she could pilot it BETTER than someone who’s had it forever. That’s bullshit. On a ship she had literally never seen before in her life You mean the ship that she explicitly called “junk”? The one she says she advised against certain modifications for? The one owned by the Quarter Portion guy, who used to be her guardian, as we see in the flashback? How does Rey fly the ship better than Han? Please, I haven’t seen a single piece of evidence for this in over two and a half years, but it’s treated as gospel. Heck, he didn’t even “have it forever”, he lost it years, maybe decades ago. Better than Han is less important than outflying two Ties on her first attempt. Only due to home ground advantage, vs. two fighters designed mainly for space combat with horrible aerodynamics, and even then, she got Finn’s turret shot. Also, she’s all-but-explicitly shown to be using The Force. The dialogue draws attention to the fact that she’s flying better than she expects. ‘somebody did a thing that is entirely understandable given the context of the prior movies and the actual text of the movie at hand. But for some reason I missed these obvious things so yarrr!’ No I fully accept the explanations for it. I still think it was poorly done and added to Rey’s perception as a Mary Sue who faces no real challenges and succeeds at everything. That there’s an explanation for what she’s doing and how she’s doing it doesn’t change that I and many people think she shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. So, shedloads of people apparently ignored or missed the clear on-screen evidence to complain about this aspect of the movie, but it’s still the movie’s fault that they’re wrong, even when they’re making claims which they could not have reasonably arrived at (EG Rey’s a better pilot than Han.), and the only possible explanation is “fandom misconceptions”? just because she succeeded (lived) doesn’t mean Rey herself experienced these things as ‘easy’. how many movies out there does the hero do something unexpectedly and benefit from the results? like maybe all of them? movies would be boring if characters are powerless the entire time until the exact one moment they need to win. they need to succeed and stumble a little bit along the way. little wins and little losses until the end. if she got her arm cut off, would that remove people’s mary sue label? Thing is, people ignore the actual struggles she went through just because they have a Narrative. She didn’t just beat Kylo, he knocked her out pretty much instantly, and then Fin bought her time, and then she temporarily forced Ben back (IIRC, the book says she tapped into the Dark Side). We don’t even know if he would’ve been able to win if he got up, or even if he could get up. And this was while Kylo was bleeding out from a high-powered weapon, which the movie takes pain to remind us of. But the fanbase acts like Rey apparently beat Ben with one hand tied behind her back, wearing a blindfold, while suffering from some hideous space-combination of Avian Flu and Ebola Zaire. I’m so glad I’m not crazy. I thought I was the only one in the more conservative camp that doesn’t agree that Rey is a Mary Sue. There is lots of in-text explanation for why she excels at certain things as well as the time honored “because the Force“ answer which has applied to a lot of characters besides her. And she absolutely does have struggles even if they are primarily in emotional conflict and wrestling with her untapped strength and insecurities about her origins. These are what make the character. Calling the whole character a Mary Sue because “she fight too good“ is kind of asinine. And don’t get me started on how they bitch about her beating Kylo and forget that he was mortally wounded at the time, and bitch about her knowing something about the Millennium Falcon and mechanical engineering despite the fact that she was A PROFESSIONAL JUNKER and the ship had been on her planet probably most of her life giving her plenty of time to explore it. But yeah pretending that only the minority actors/actresses get harrassed is bullshit. Rey is 100% a Mary Sue. No training yet managed to beat Kylo Ren, flew a ship across space despite no experience, etc. @rockyrz did you read literally one word from the post above you or are you just gonna keep shouting “she’s a Mary Sue!“ and ignore all evidence to the contrary?“Managed to beat Kylo Ren”BECAUSE HE WAS FUCKING MORTALLY WOUNDED.“flew a ship across space”BECAUSE SHE HAD JUST STATED SHE WAS A PILOT.Like seriously it’s fine if you don’t like the movie but you seem kind of dumb if you just straight up ignore the evidence even it’s right in front of your face so you can keep saying the same thing over and over.

She still would have sacrificed herself to save Finn but would have died stopping or stalling the first order instead of dying for literally no reason while almost killing the person she was trying to save. It was like shooting someone to stop them from jumping off a bridge…very stupid.

2.) We wouldn’t have had to hear that stupid fortune cookie “wisdom” that makes absolutely zero logical sense at all. Neither in the context of the fight between good and evil or in the context of what she did. Fighting what you hate and saving what you love are not only not mutually exclusive but in a fucking war both are a necessity.

3.) She would have had a moment where she lived up to her sisters heroic example of sacrifice from the beginning of the movie.

4.) That way it’s not like Rose got Luke killed and endangered the entire resistance just to save Finn. She at least would sacrifice herself instead of others and then dying herself anyway.

5.) You still could have done the ending with Luke that way as well. Although you should not have killed Luke off in this movie. If their goal was to kill off one of the three older characters in each movie it made way more sense for Leia to die in this one. At this point she’s much less relevant to the plot than Luke who still has more to teach Rey. Now they have to figure out how to kill off Leia now that Carrie Fisher is dead. She died before this was released it would have been easy to edit out her marry poppins moment and do some pickups. Her role in the rest of the movie wasn’t major. And then edit out Luke’s terrible death and used Mark Hamill (who killed it in the movie despite hating the script) in the third movie…and then saved his death for the third. The force presence thing was cool, it killing him from exhaustion is lame. Then that way if the fans are upset there was no Luke lightsaber duel you could do it in the third.

That’s a much fucking better movie

Yeah that line just made no sense whatsoever. Your fucking sister died sacrificing herself for a greater cause and that’s exactly what Finn was doing. It’s also what Holdo did and was commended for. Why are you suddenly acting like it’s a bad thing?

When something becomes a problem you make adjustments to prevent as much harm as possible.
siryouarebeingmocked:

somebodyoverthereinhell:

siryouarebeingmocked:

jalopyrustbucket:

cadenboy456:

This guy has the right idea.

It’s like you think gun laws don’t already exist.

Also, hardly anyone actually ate Tide pods until the media made a big deal out of it, (or after, really) and >the pods had already been locked up for years to keep people from stealing them<.

So, this analogy is even more accurate than OP thought.

and even though they had precautions on tide pods, MORE WERE MADE TO ACCOMODATE RECENT INCIDENTS INVOLVING THEM

it’s not that hard guys

Except the people who want more gun control consistently refuse to talk about the failures of the authorities (EG Sutherland Springs, Parkland) to enforce the current laws and policies.

They say incorrect things like “there are more restrictions on vaginas/adopting kids/cough medicine than buying a gun!”, then turn around and tout “common sense” solutions that don’t involve a) the opinions of actual gun owners, and b) doing research.

For example, rifles are used to murder less people than fists, yet AR-15s are frequently a target for gun control. You see people go “you only need a single hunting rifle!” even though many jurisdictions specify specific gun calibres for any animal you want to legally hunt.

People are proposing restrictions that would screw over millions of law-abiding gun owners because a small handful of them mass murder people.

They don’t want to take a sober, objective look at the situation and decide how to improve the system, they just want to get rid of the Scary Thing.

“A handful of dumbass kids did a dumbass thing and this is a perfect analogy for why you should give up your rights lol”

Amazon, Charlie, and Children: Birds And Beaks Rescue and Rehab This will likely be the most heartbreaking post I ever write On the evening of January 1, 2018, we lost 11 birds. Most of the birds passed within about 30 minutes of each other, with the last one, a nanday conure not passing until around 4am We originally thought maybe carbon monoxide or something in the air, and began evacuation to the garage and called 911. The fire department tested both for carbon monoxide and noxious gases and our results were zeros across the board The next logical thought was food/water. We pulled all the food and water and put them on the counter The next morning, we took those birds to our veterinarian and had necropsies done for them. The initial things our doctor found were hearts were good, lungs were good, all seem to be in good health, except their stomachs were inflamed, there was a green sludge in their Gl tracts and their livers were rock hard. Gross necropsies were submitted by our vet for 2 birds to determine official cause of death with food toxicity being the suspicion There are another 3 birds that we are unsure if they will make it or not Today, January 3, 2018, I took the in-bowl samples of food to Michigan State University Before we go further, I want to make it clear I am not pointing fingers. There were 3 foods included in our mix, and thankfully we are fastidious - we have the packages that food came in so that batches can be pulled and we have contacted the companies. The foods are Zupreem Fruitblend, large size for macaws, cockatoos etc. Higgins Vitaseed Lefeber's Nutriberries MSU is in receipt of 2lbs of the food that was in the bowls and we should have results back for WHAT the toxin is within 5-7 days We spoke with another Michigan Rescue to tell them what's going on, and they also experienced a die off in the last week of 3 birds. The foods they were feeding are Zupreem Fruit Flavored Blend and Higgins Vitaseed Our hearts are broken. In a million pieces. We are not ok. We will probably never be ok again. I am happy to answer questions. What l don't want is mass hysteria. We are awaiting results back from the lab and necropsies - and all we can do is wait. What I'm concerned with is that birds are dying and unlike us - you guys usually have one or two birds. If something happens, you're thinking it's your fault. That you've done something wrong. You don't question the food because you trust it. You need to have necropsies done. You need to save your food, your bags, and you need to get it tested We don't know which food it was at this point, and we're not pointing fingers What I can tell you is that the companies are being very cooperative, helpful and working WITH us My personal opinion is that for now, if you are feeding any of those brands, please stop and feed fresh/frozen foods only until we have the results back for why this happened Please keep us in your thoughts. Our hearts are broken. We lost 11 family members. Watching my children try to give CPR to the birds we all love and care for in vain may be the worst thing I have ever witnessed, only second to walking into my aviary and seeing all but 3 of my birds in there gone Charlie Max Guido Zook Oliver Rosie Eddie Cheech (M2, boarder) Cheech (YN Amazon) Chong Pebbles My loves. Rest in Heaven my angels. My request to you - ask your questions here. Don't flood my inbox. When have answers, you shall have answers. I'm an open book. l'Il answer anything here in this thread. We are a by-the-book rescue. We don't cut corners. So ask away If you're negative - I just don't have any energy for you. I really don't. Be supportive or be gone. Droopy wings. Vomiting a copper reddish substance, seizures begin and then death. The 3 remaining birds are still very wobbly and weak. We have 17 birds still living, including the 3 that we could still lose. Of the 17, a few had last batch food, a few don't eat this food at all (lorikeet, hyacinth), and my picky eaters are still with us. haiku-robot: rembrandtswife: wordsonbirds: tieltavern: aleksthetiel: THIS IS IMPORTANT PLEASE READ THROUGH. Please visit this rescues Facebook page and read through the comments on this post, there are others who have had similar thing happen to them. If you feed Zupreem or Vitaseed (And possibly nutriberries, but cross referencing through the comments shows that this isn’t likely the problem) I highly recommend pulling it temporarily and following this page, as they have sent away the food to be checked. This is the rescues page facebook.com/birdsandbeaks/ I normally don’t reblog sad things, but this is a reblog to save a life. If youfeed Zupreem, Vitaseed, or Nutriberries, PLEASE read this post.
