realtransfacts: batsarentbugs: In the documentary, How to Survive a Plague they mention this very fact. Reagan was the president during this time and do you know what he did when the LGBTQ community begged him for help? He fucking laughed at us. His administration CELEBRATED that finally, ‘God’s judgement in the form of a plague’ was striking down queer people.  They saw it as a form of divine population control.  Reagan could have given a rats ass about us… Until the plague began to effect straight people. THEN his administration cared. Because the people that mattered were finally getting sick. And finally the millions of dollars in research money was poured into finding a treatment for HIV. But by then, so many LGBTQ individuals had died.  More people died from the initial HIV epidemic than the Vietnam war. So when straight people complain about being ‘oppressed’ and why there isn’t a straight pride parade? Go fuck yourself. No one has ever tried to wipe you out through a plague, ignored your cries for help as a disease wiped out massive amounts of your community. fandom: Tumblr and Social Impact in 2019For 2019, our Social Impact team (@action) compiled trends they saw across the platform. From #BlackExcellence365 to National Hispanic Heritage Month, there’s no doubt that Tumblr’s community is incredibly passionate about and dedicated to social issues. During Women’s History Month, we shared stories from Black women, trans people, women of color, and more from all industries in threads that continued throughout the year. The tag #postitforward was where many of you shared mental health stories, uplifting others in an honest and raw way. The community mobilized for climate change with the hashtag #FridaysForFuture, rose to honor new communities during our first ever #APAHM campaign, and celebrated all things LGBTQ+ year-round with #tumblr pride! When we looked at all of the data, we weren’t surprised at which issues are the most important to you, the Tumblr community. You all engaged in these conversations and put action into your words. Whether you created art, wrote, edited GIFs, or posted selfies as part of your activism, you showed up. While this list is ranked by engagement volume, there is no value judgment as to the importance of any one issue over the other.Mental healthBlack cultureFeminismPride monthEqualityIntersectional feminismClimate changeCapitalism Racism Blackout Stay passionate, Tumblr. thechekhov: More and more recently, I’ve begun to get some people coming to me asking for some clarification on LGBTQ stuff. When I was younger, I had to discover many basic identities and labels by myself, through research of various sources, or pieced together from disconnected blog posts.  In the year 2019 you’d think we’d have a kid-friendly website that describes all of this in simple terms but… I’ve yet to find one that isn’t primed for guardians/parents of LGBTQ parnets and prioratizes them instead of the LGBTQ kids themselves….  So I tried to make a quick graphic to organize everything! Keep in mind - this is based on MY experience and the terminology I have grown up using. Everyone’s experiences may differ - and I tried to simplify in some places to make it easier to read. (For example… I didn’t really go into detail on non-binary identities… but I may make a seperate graphic for that someday because that’s its own box of pears.)  If you have feelings about this, feel free to go more in depth in the comments!  : thechekhov: More and more recently, I’ve begun to get some people coming to me asking for some clarification on LGBTQ stuff. It’s a bunch dudes with facial hair who get together, put on tails, and do a photoshoot. This photoshoot gets turned into a calendar which is then sold and most (if not all) proceeds go to charity. Their most recent charity went to VPNL, which according to their website “works diligently throughout the province to change attitudes, behaviours, and social norms associated with violence. VPNL organizations provide violence prevention and early intervention services to those most at risk of experiencing violence: women, children and youth, Indigenous women and children, older persons, persons with disabilities, persons of varying race or ethnicity, LGBTQ+ persons, and persons of varying economic status.” They also currently have applications open for new merbys! Aside from it going to a great cause, it’s also a super funny & cute calendar! It makes for a great gift. I got two in 2018! Oh and they’re also hella inclusive and socially conscious. One of my favorite quotes from the Merby site: “Inclusion is our jam. Humans of all genders, ethnicities, faiths, abilities and ages are welcome. Good people, doing good things, having fun the whole time – that’s who we are. Ability to grow facial hair is irrelevant – it’s the beard inside that matters most.” : hu by Tami feminismandmedia: fairyofsomething: affinityforthestars: jumpingjacktrash: curlicuecal: uluhlynx: sweet-saccharin: if this ain’t the most beautiful mermaid you’ve ever seen… He looks so happy 10/10 a good mermaid the mermaid of happiness Reblog to have good and warm feelings ;w; <3 I think he’s actually from the Merby group. bi-trans-alliance: These Joyful Photos Celebrate The Beauty Of Trans Women “As we celebrate Pride, it’s important to remember that trans women of color including Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and Miss Major Griffin-Gracy were at the forefront of the movement. As model and activist KhrystyAna puts it, “This is Pride month; a month we would not have without trans women of color.  Yet, despite half a century of progress, trans rights still fall behind those of others in the LGBTQ+ community, with trans women of color remaining the most vulnerable members of the queer community.“ KhrystyAna teamed up with photographer Amanda Picotte, model Seana Steele, and stylist Guvanch (all four of whom are part of the LGBTQ+ community) to create this photoshoot celebrating trans women. T he photos are part of the KhrystyAna’s Real Catwalk Project, dedicated to throwing out conventional beauty standards and championing inclusivity. Here’s some knowledge I’d like to share: There’s actually been studies as to why it’s usually white kids, a large conclusion amongst the criminology community is that those that often have more privileged lives (white kids in our society’s case) are less adept to dealing with stress and denial. Whereas minorities and others are more likely to cope and function normally despite stressors because of the constant stressors that come from systematic racism and/or other platforms of more limited priviledge. TL;DR: It’s usually a white kid because their privilege incacipated their ability to learn how to handle stress/ denial/ whatever without acting out. The less privileged are done used to the bs and thus typically dont turn to extreme measures as coping mechanisms.
