sexhaver: this is from 2003: POINT/COUNTERPOINT This War Will Destabilize The Entire Mideast Region And Set Off A Global Shockwave Of Anti-Americanism vs. No It Won't Nathan Eckert and Bob Sheffer f 3/26/03 3:00pm. SEE MORE: OPINION This War Will Destabilize The Entire Mideast Region And Set Off A Global Shockwave Of Anti- Americanism George W. Bush may think that a war against Iraq is the solution to our problems, but the reality is, it will only serve to create far more. This war will not put an end to anti-Americanism; it will fan the flames of hatred even higher. It will not end the threat of weapons of mass destruction; it will make possible their further proliferation. And it will not lay the groundwork for the flourishing of democracy throughout the Mideast; it will harden the resolve of Arab states to drive out all Western (i.e Nathan Eckert U.S.) influence. If you thought Osama bin Laden was bad, just wait until the countless children who become orphaned by U.S. bombs in the coming weeks are all grown up. Do you think they will forget what country dropped the bombs that killed their parents? In 10 or 15 years, we will look back fondly on the days when there were only a few thousand Middle Easterners dedicated to destroying the U.S and willing to die for the fundamentalist cause. From this war, a million bin Ladens will bloom And what exactly is our endgame here? Do we really believe that we can install Gen. Tommy Franks as the ruler of Iraq? Is our arrogance and hubris so great that we actually believe that a U.S. provisional military regime will be welcomed with open arms by the Iraqi people? Democracy cannot possibly thrive under coercion. To take over a country and impose one's own system of government without regard for the people of that country is the very antithesis of democracy. And it is doomed to fail A war against Iraq is not only morally wrong, it will be an unmitigated disaster No It Won't No it won't It just won't. None of that will happen You're getting worked up over nothing. Everything is going to be fine. So just relax, okay? You're really overreacting "This war will not put an end to anti-Americanism; it will fan the flames of hatred even higher"? It won't Bob Sheffer "It will harden the resolve of Arab states to drive out all Western (i.e. U.S.) influence"? Not really "A war against Iraq is not only morally wrong, it will be an unmitigated disaster"? Sorry, no, I disagree "To take over a country and impose one's own system of government without regard for the people of that country is the very antithesis of democracy"? You are completely wrong Trust me, it's all going to work out perfect. Nothing bad is going to happen It's all under control. Why do you keep saying these things? I can tell when there's trouble looming and I really don't sens se that right now. We're in control of this situation, and we know what we're doing. So stop being so pessimistic Look, you've been proven wrong, so stop talking. You've had your say already Be quiet, okay? Everything's fine. You're wrong sexhaver: this is from 2003

This is a thing a lot of genres do, but epic fantasies seem to be impressively devoid of any sense of humor, and often cave to the temptation to make the villains or heroes so badass that nothing embarrassing or stupid ever happens to them. In Avatar (the last airbender, anyway, haven’t seen Korra), everyone has stupid shit happen to them.  Even Fire Lord Ozai has his moments– “No, Fire Lord Ozai, YOU aren’t wearing pants!” Azula gets covered in mud.  Zuko has… well, getting conked in the head by a boomerang is only the beginning of the stupid undignified shit he experiences. (Though he still doesn’t compare to Sokka, the emperor unto perpetuity of Shameland.) And I love that.  Because in life, sometimes you get covered in mud.  Sometimes you get conked in the head when you’re trying to be brooding and dramatic.  STUPID SHIT HAPPENS TO YOU.  And in real life, you still manage to be badass, or terrible, even in your moments of human frailty. I wish I saw that more often. Yes! This, so much. That’s definitively something I’ve noticed too, and I love it! Actually, in a way, I think it’s kind of addressed in the show itself: Zuko was publicly humiliated, punished and banished for speaking out of turn at a meeting. This was considered a personal offense to the Fire Lord: they were so strict and enamored with their “dignity” that the slightest misstep by a child could turn into some sort of great insult. And if you’re insulted the proper response is to defend your honor in Agni Kai, a duel to the death (with a child if need be). In contrast, among the Air Nomads, it was okay to throw mud pies at the head monks and laugh your ass off. It was even encouraged: creativity, fun and humility were seen as the most essential qualities. No one was above pranks - neither being pranked nor even doing the pranks. And it didn’t mean they didn’t know respect - we know Aang had enormous respect for his elders and their teachings. It’s actually a much truer form of respect than what you could find in the Fire Nation, where fear kept you silent. So, I think there is a lesson here, that maybe we should learn not to hold our dignity in such high regard, that it’s good to know how to laugh at yourself? And when ATLA has fun with its serious characters, it’s also a way to illustrate this idea - the show is all the richer by not taking itself too seriously. : quentyl: lb-lee: avatarsymbolism: Zuko and Mai v Mr. Boomerang. Reports coming out of San Jose say that GM Doug Wilson only traded for Karlsson as “a prank gone horribly wrong” to see if Ottawa owner Melynk was gullible enough to swap the franchise favorite superstar defenseman for a couple of no name players that he made up on the spot. Wilson later told TSN in an interview that he “didn’t expect Ottawa to take the offer seriously” and told Melnyk on Friday night that they could have Karlsson back because he felt bad as the Swedish defenseman was “the only reason Senators fans hadn’t slit their wrists years ago.” While many regard this fiasco as an affront to league protocol, physicians are questioning Senator's owner Eugene Melynk’s mental health as it is likely he suffered a stroke during that ill-fated trade call. He was reportedly taken into a senior home to undergo physical therapy but hasn’t been responding well to treatment. Do you see the kid on the left? More importantly do you see that grin on his face......what if I told you that was fake? In fact, what if I told you that picture was taken one week from being removed from my home and sent to live with my Aunt in Florida? You see that kid on the left knew what true helplessness felt like....he knew what it meant to feel lost, scared, depressed, and knew what it was like to feel like his life was already over before it even started. He even began to believe the lie that maybe just maybe the world would be better off without him in it. He lost his friends, his home, his girlfriend, and just about anything else you can imagine as a high school teenager..... You see the depression knows no age, race, gender, political or sexual preference....it is unbiased in that regard and it can touch anyone at any time that it wants. Yet even in his darkest times and darkest moments....when he was on a path to nothing and curious if he would ever amount to anything more than just that.....NOTHING! Proverbs 16:3 saved his life! Now, 14 years later, that broken shell of a boy has been heard by 1 BILLION people! He has been able to travel the world and meet tens of thousands of people asking him daily how to push through and what keeps him going?! Life is truly funny that way! The point? The point is simply this.....if you are struggling and if life truly seems like it is at its darkest and you feel lost, alone, or hopeless. Trust me when I say that where you are now is preparing you for where you need to go and who you need to be! You can go from the weakest to the strongest before you know it! Your life has VALUE and you MATTER more than you will ever know! So fight for what is to come! Not always what currently is! If a kid from nowhere MS and a broken home can make anything of himself....SO CAN YOU! To this day, I still struggle with feelings of being good enough or whether or not I should be here.....those feelings never truly go away. BUT I choose life and the journey that life is!!! Because trust IT IS WORTH IT!! So choose to fight....ALWAYS! -Graham🇺🇸 motivation throwbackthursday faith family life: APPAREL Do you see the kid on the left?
