"Chains & grills" comment was supposed to be in poor taste 1: this is the stereotype perpetuated by societal remnants of archaic colonial- thinking. There is no set "book- cover" with which to judge the African diaspora & their descendants 2: @bigbrotherzook 's comments shit on & divide members of the community much like the "colonial masters" would want. THE CYCLE PERPETUATES Prove my Blackness? it's Very reminiscent of Trump's obsession with Obama's Birth certificate, no? clear something up for you: I AM a Black child, raised by a Latina Mother, educated in a VERY white society. Always one of 5 "black kids" in all of my schools. Seen as black by their community, seen as white in my own cause I didn't "act black", had lighter pigmentation & didn't do the dance the colonial masters would have wanted. For refusing to perpetuate poisonous ideologies & archaic beliefs. Call me biracial by all means, it's really no sweat off my back - imma do me, be me & you can call me whatever helps you sleep better. With tears in his eyes, he started running and screaming throughout the house, calling for his mom. He would show his mom, and, she would gasp, seeing something she thought she would never see in her lifetime. Throughout the nation, there were similar reactions.

What they saw was Franklin Armstrong’s first appearance on the iconic comic strip “Peanuts.” Franklin would be 50 years old this year.

Franklin was “born” after a school teacher, Harriet Glickman, had written a letter to creator Charles M. Schulz after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot to death outside his Memphis hotel room.

Glickman, who had kids of her own and having worked with kids, was especially aware of the power of comics among the young. “And my feeling at the time was that I realized that black kids and white kids never saw themselves [depicted] together in the classroom,” she would say.

She would write, “Since the death of Martin Luther King, ‘I’ve been asking myself what I can do to help change those conditions in our society which led to the assassination and which contribute to the vast sea of misunderstanding, hate, fear and violence.‘”

Glickman asked Schulz if he could consider adding a black character to his popular comic strip, which she hoped would bring the country together and show people of color that they are not excluded from American society.

She had written to others as well, but the others feared it was too soon, that it may be costly to their careers, that the syndicate would drop them if they dared do something like that.

Charles Schulz did not have to respond to her letter, he could have just completely ignored it, and everyone would have forgotten about it. But, Schulz did take the time to respond, saying he was intrigued with the idea, but wasn’t sure whether it would be right, coming from him, he didn’t want to make matters worse, he felt that it may sound condescending to people of color.

Glickman did not give up, and continued communicating with Schulz, with Schulz surprisingly responding each time. She would even have black friends write to Schulz and explain to him what it would mean to them and gave him some suggestions on how to introduce such a character without offending anyone. This conversation would continue until one day, Schulz would tell Glickman to check her newspaper on July 31, 1968.

On that date, the cartoon, as created by Schulz, shows Charlie Brown meeting a new character, named Franklin. Other than his color, Franklin was just an ordinary kid who befriends and helps Charlie Brown. Franklin also mentions that his father was “over at Vietnam.” At the end of the series, which lasted three strips, Charlie invites Franklin to spend the night one day so they can continue their friendship.

There was no big announcement, there was no big deal, it was just a natural conversation between two kids, whose obvious differences did not matter to them. And, the fact that Franklin’s father was fighting for this country was also a very strong statement by Schulz.

Although Schulz never made a big deal over the inclusion of Franklin, there were many fans, especially in the South, who were very upset by it and that made national news. One Southern editor even said, “I don’t mind you having a black character, but please don’t show them in school together.”

It would eventually lead to a conversation between Schulz and the president of the comic’s distribution company, who was concerned about the introduction of Franklin and how it might affect Schulz’ popularity. Many newspapers during that time had threatened to cut the strip.

Schulz’ response: “I remember telling Larry at the time about Franklin – he wanted me to change it, and we talked about it for a long while on the phone, and I finally sighed and said, “Well, Larry, let’s put it this way: Either you print it just the way I draw it or I quit. How’s that?”

Eventually, Franklin became a regular character in the comic strips, and, despite complaints, Franklin would be shown sitting in front of Peppermint Patty at school and playing center field on her baseball team.

More recently, Franklin is brought up on social media around Thanksgiving time, when the animated 1973 special “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” appears. Some people have blamed Schulz for showing Franklin sitting alone on the Thanksgiving table, while the other characters sit across him. But, Schulz did not have the same control over the animated cartoon on a television network that he did on his own comic strip in the newspapers.

But, he did have control over his own comic strip, and, he courageously decided to make a statement because of one brave school teacher who decided to ask a simple question.

Glickman would explain later that her parents were “concerned about others, and the values that they instilled in us about caring for and appreciating everyone of all colors and backgrounds — this is what we knew when we were growing up, that you cared about other people … And so, during the years, we were very aware of the issues of racism and civil rights in this country [when] black people had to sit at the back of the bus, black people couldn’t sit in the same seats in the restaurants that you could sit … Every day I would see, or read, about black children trying to get into school and seeing crowds of white people standing around spitting at them or yelling at them … and the beatings and the dogs and the hosings and the courage of so many people in that time.”

Because of Glickman, because of Schulz, people around the world were introduced to a little boy named Franklin.” (Source: The Jon S. Randal Peace Page, Facebook)

Of course, nowadays one of the characters would suddenly be black, another would be transexual, and all the girls would be quasi lesbians at least. :P

Diversity isn’t bad, but using an outdated term for transgender people is.

Please do NOT use transsexual.

“ using an outdated term for transgender people is “

Who appointed you to the language police?

Trans gender doesn’t make sense, since gender is the psychological depiction of biological sex. A transsexual is someone whose brain doesn’t align with the body. They experience gender dysphoria, they don’t flip genders because it’s Thursday.

“ Diversity isn’t bad “

Bullshit. Diversity as it is used now is the opposite of what it used to be. Kek, I never said every story has to be the same because of diversity, you’re just pulling shit out of your ass.

Diversity isn’t bad. It’s not going to kill you if there’s a story featuring someone that is gay, trans, disabled, of color, or anything else outside of what people usually choose to depict.

It’s not that hard a concept to understand. If you get heated over there being diversity then you need to check yourself and your beliefs.

Forced diversity is understandable to dislike, but I wasn’t even talking about that in the first place. I said a general statement.

“ Trans people themselves would rather people use transgender “

And your proof is.. your opinion. Dismissed as easily. I’ve known transsexuals all my life, they used the word, that is where i heard it, I don’t care that your little group of 0.0001% of the english speakers want to control how english is spoken, any more than I care how scientologists want it to be spoken.

Authoritarians try to control minds by controlling words. It’s very revealing to read books like 1984. SocJus fits in perfectly to that world.

“ I never said every story has to be the same because of diversity “

And I never said you did. God, strawmannery already? I said ‘diversity’ makes every story the same. You have to have the trans, you have to have the black person, the gay, blah blah blah. If they’re a real person and wearing that, while it is cosplaying, they’re still choosing to wear it. A character is drawn like that, by the artist or character designer or whatever. That’s why they’re different, they don’t get to choose anything. Even if it’s explained with some canonical reason, if that reason isn’t explored enough then it’s just trying to excuse itself. I haven’t personally watched FMA, but I know that Lust is a big character/villain/whatever and I’m going on a hunch that the writers gave a solid reason for her being dressed like that (which, by the way, isn’t even all that slutty). He embodies zero conservative values. http://elementarypolitics.com/2016/03/13/donald-trump-is-objectively-not-a-conservative/ oh god here we go again. I always have this fight with “conservatives”. First of all just because Donald Trump isn’t conservative in your eyes doesn’t mean that logically he must be more of a democrat. It’s not really sensible to jump to that conclusion. If you have an argument for it then im all ears. Second of all, conservatism is not a one size fits all ideology. within conservatism there are many often opposing schools of thought. This whole notion that conservatism = small government and liberalism = big government is a false dichotomy supported by zero objective political science textbooks. You can have conservative regimes with large authoritarian governments (aka fascism as one of many examples) and you can have in theory liberal/leftist countries with tiny governments. You can have large liberal regimes and small conservative ones etc. u get the point. Third the democratic party does not represent liberalism or all liberals (im independent and hate most democrats who are usually evil) just like the republican party does not represent conservatism. They represent both ideologies symbolically since those are our only two choices in these two-party system obsessed nation. BUT my point is that just because Trump doesn’t fit your definition of a conservative doesn’t make him more like a democrat. He is a right winger and is using what republicans have historically used: blaming economic ills on ___ group of people. I don’t think it’s a coincidence as to why this “democrat” is the Republican frontrunner. Unless you are admitting that republican primary voters arent conservative and if thats the case then how can u trust any choice those people make lmaooo

Bodies , Drugs, and Jesus: Anonymous said: I don't have tumblr so I had to ask this account. You just posted about hobby lobby on your other account. I just don't understand why providing the means to contraception is so wrong. Regardless of whether or not contraception is okay, giving someone the option isn't forcing them or necessarily endorsing it. HL pays their employees money and the employees could use that money to buy drugs or hire prostitutes. But that's their choice, not HL's. Contraception doesn't seem so different to me Anonymous said: Their salary is the means by which they can buy things that HL may or may not agree with. The health coverage is the means by which they access health care that HL May or may not agree with. It just seems like it's not HL's choice at all. HL can't directly pay their employees rent and grocery bills to keep them from buying, say, excessive amounts of alcohol. So why should they be able to or argumentative. Thanks!
orwellianlegacy:

Hi Anon,

This is a good question, because there’s a lot of misinformation about this case floating around.

I’ll do my best to explain the situation, as I understand it…

It’s not just about “contraception.”

Hobby Lobby’s issue isn’t with contraception in general. It’s with abortifacient contraception in particular.

The Affordable Care Act includes a “‘preventive services’ mandate, which forces the Christian-owned-and-operated business to provide, without co-pay, abortion-inducing drugs including the ‘morning after pill’ and ‘week after pill’ in their health insurance plan.”

Regardless of where you stand on abortion, I think we can all recognize that it’s a huge social issue that people regard with strong, ideological convictions.

So there’s a lot more at play here than the simple word “contraception” fully conveys.

Paychecks and Health Insurance are different.

A paycheck represents a single exchange: Employees provide time and labor to Hobby Lobby, and Hobby Lobby compensates employees with money.

That is the end of the exchange. What an employee chooses to purchase with their paycheck is no longer Hobby Lobby’s concern. Hobby Lobby isn’t directly involved, so it isn’t responsible.

Health insurance represents a different exchange. Hobby Lobby offers the benefit of a healthcare plan to employees, and the employees can accept or reject it.

But in this case, the Hobby Lobby is providing an ongoing service to the employee. So the nature of the health care provided is very much Hobby Lobby’s concern. Hobby Lobby is directly involved, so it is responsible.

Employee options aren’t at stake.

Hobby Lobby isn’t trying to prevent its employees from seeking abortions. It just doesn’t want to be forced to pay for those abortions.

And, contrary to the conclusion many jump to, that doesn’t actually restrict the freedom of anyone working for Hobby Lobby. Freedom isn’t about what our employers allow, it’s about what our government enforces.

So Hobby Lobby’s employees still have several options if they want these kinds of contraception:

As you said, they can spend their paycheck however they choose. So if they choose to spend it on an abortion, they’re free to do so.

They can also choose not to participate in Hobby Lobby’s employer-provided healthcare plan and instead find a private healthcare plan that provides their desired contraception. (The Affordable Care Act has created huge obstacles to this option, but that’s the government’s fault, not Hobby Lobby’s.)

Or if employees really want an employer-provided healthcare plan that includes their desired contraception, they’re free to find a new employer that provides it. Job searching sucks, but nobody is being forced to work for Hobby Lobby or for any other company that provides a healthcare plan they don’t like.

The Supreme Court’s decision doesn’t actually restrict Hobby Lobby employees’ healthcare options. It’s just restricts one method of paying for a specific option.

Hobby Lobby doesn’t want to stop employees from doing what they want to do. It just doesn’t want to be a part of it.

People should be free to run their businesses as they see fit.

So long as an employer has control over the design of the healthcare plan they offer and employees are given the option of accepting or rejecting it, everything is voluntary.

But the Affordable Care Act effectively removed Hobby Lobby’s voluntary involvement. The benefit Hobby Lobby once offered is now an entitlement the government requires it to provide.

And, while Hobby Lobby could once design its healthcare plan however it saw fit, it is now forced to provide a government-regulated plan — one that included drugs it considers morally compromising.

At this point the debate usually arises about whether corporations have rights.

Corporations aren’t people, they’re property. So corporations don’t have rights, but their owners still do. And the way a corporation like Hobby Lobby operates is an extension of its owners’ economic and religious liberty.

So when the government forces a corporation to operate against its owners convictions, the government is infringing on the owner’s liberty.

And corporate owners don’t have the option of going another route the way their employees do. Owners either comply with government dictates, or they close their businesses.

Thankfully, because the Supreme Court has chosen to protect the economic and religious rights of business owners, Hobby Lobby won’t have to do either …and that’s good news for its employees.

Everyone wins when liberty is protected.

It’s easy to see the Supreme Court’s decision on this case as a win for conservatives or corporations or the pro-life moments. But the reality is that this is a win for everyone.

Because the case was only about pro-life, corporate and conservative rights this time. Next time might be different.

If the Supreme Court had forced Hobby Lobby to adhere to the contraceptive mandate, it would have set a precedent for favoring government regulation over economic and religious liberties.

And that could just as easily work against liberal, non-profit or pro-choice rights. Ideologies shift, but power doesn’t.

So the decision today wasn’t one ideology winning over another. It was liberty winning over tyranny.

Individual employees should be free to do what they want with their money and their bodies. Corporate owners should be free to do what they want with their money and their businesses. And the government shouldn’t be allowed to dictate how either one operates.

I hope that explanation makes sense. Thanks for getting your question to me — and for asking it so politely.

Peace, love and Jesus,
-James

Nationalism.

True. Both GOP members and the Nazis were nationalistic. But did both subscribe to a shared patriotism of the same land? This is important to consider because being nationalistic means absolutely nothing on it’s own. People who consider themselves patriotic generally are subscribing to the values that their nation has adopted as being representative of their own personal ideologies.

Thus, being nationalistic means nothing on it’s own unless you factor in the principles that nation exhibits as a primary variable.

Canadians are some of the most nationalistic people on the planet earth.. As were the Russians of the old Soviet Union. Are they much like Nazi Germany simply because of it?

2. Authoritarianism.

Defined by Wikipedia as:

dictatorship: a form of government in which the ruler is an absolute dictator (not restricted by a constitution or laws or opposition etc.).

Indeed, Nazi Germany was a one-party dictatorship run by Adolf Hitler. There was no declaration of rights signed by his Government, nor was any dissent allowed without harsh consequence.

By contrast, the Tea Party is:

Anti-big Government, and,

Pro-Constitution.

Those two factors alone disrupt this entire second point.. Both because the Tea Party favors limiting the authority of Government, and because their hyper Constitutionalism would never allow the infringement of the liberties granted within.

Freedom of Speech, Faith, and Property are essential tenets to Republicanism.

3. Social Darwinism.

Social Darwinism is a theory based in the notion that environments shape the groups within those environments. Basically, ensuring that the group most capable of survival in that environment will ultimately inherit it.

I don’t quite understand what this has to do with politics — But I am assuming the Liberals have taken a racial edge to this long-held component of biology. In that case, I’d simply laugh and remind them that it was the Republicans who freed the slaves, and ensured the Constitution [pesky little bugger] protected them to the full extent of which it protected every other person who stepped foot on American soil.

The Democrats [confederacy] were responsible for the push for the dehumanization of non-whites, and formed the original KKK.

Still — Somehow the Tea Party is racist for wanting to encourage the independence of every American citizen, and not perpetuate the emotional bondage of historical victimization and Government dependency of African-Americans and other minorities.

4. Indoctrination.

Because being a loathed minority political group is akin to indoctrination.

[See: Projection]

Mind you, I would dare ask a Liberal who, exactly, is not indoctrinated.. Most likely, their answer will include themselves, and anyone who thinks like themselves.. Which is a perfect segway intoooooo~

5. Propaganda.

Propaganda simply means any biased information used to mislead others into viewing a group or person favorably or unfavorably. It is used by every company, group, political leader, ideology, etc… No one is exempt from the use of propaganda to attempt to sway others to see their point of view as being the ‘right’ point of view.

The picture I am replying to is propaganda. It is pro-Liberalism in nature with the intention of attempting to sway it’s readers towards subscribing to the same paradigm it does.

My blog is propaganda… Tumblr is propaganda.

What Liberals argue about propaganda is a case study in how effective propaganda can be. They are so indoctrinated that they truly believe that their ideology isn’t one. They are without ideology. Their views are without bias. Their political subscription is simply the absolute best thing that no one but like-minded comrades seem to understand.

6. Anti-Intellectualism.

Define intellectualism, love.

7. Militarism.

Militarism is simply defined as believing in having a strong national defense system and military.

How awful.

I mean.. It’s just so capitalistic, you know? It’s not like anyone else has armies. We are just war mongering in supporting our troops and securing our borders.. And just meddling when we try to stop Governments from mass-slaughtering their own people overseas.

8. Anti Communism.

My favorite!

The Nazis were Socialists. In fact, the word ‘Nazi’ is an abbreviation of the National Socialist Worker’s Party’s German title. The Nazis were not anti-Communism.. They were anti-Soviet Union.

And yes.. The Tea Party, as all Conservatives, are anti Communism — But not without support, in this area! The 100,000,000+ people who died under Communist rule in only about 100 years are pretty anti-Communist, too.

[Goddamn..]

The original post is HILARIOUSLY stupid. I mean what even?
