Stack Chairman and CEO, Dick's Sporting Goods, Inc. M34 OPAY ll 9812Koviews DETROIT 58 HOUSTON 82° NEW DAY wretchedor30: kialessa: odinsblog: The list of businesses dropping the NRA is growing No, no, no; Dick’s take is so much bigger than that. Dick’s did not aim at the NRA, Dick’s took DIRECT ACTION, changing their own gun sale policies and calling on politicians to change the laws. (That’s the TL;DR.) Dick’s Sporting Goods has said: “We at DICK’S Sporting Goods are deeply disturbed and saddened by the tragic events in Parkland. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of the victims and their loved ones. But thoughts and prayers are not enough. We have tremendous respect and admiration for the students organizing and making their voices heard regarding gun violence in schools and elsewhere in our country. We have heard you. The nation has heard you. We support and respect the Second Amendment, and we recognize and appreciate that the vast majority of gun owners in this country are responsible, law-abiding citizens. But we have to help solve the problem that’s in front of us. Gun violence is an epidemic that’s taking the lives of too many people, including the brightest hope for the future of America – our kids. Following all of the rules and laws, we sold a shotgun to the Parkland shooter in November of 2017. It was not the gun, nor type of gun, he used in the shooting. But it could have been. Clearly this indicates on so many levels that the systems in place are not effective to protect our kids and our citizens. We believe it’s time to do something about it. Beginning today, DICK’S Sporting Goods is committed to the following: We will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles. We had already removed them from all DICK’S stores after the Sandy Hook massacre, but we will now remove them from sale at all 35 Field Stream stores. We will no longer sell firearms to anyone under 21 years of age.    We will no longer sell high capacity magazines. We never have and never will sell bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly. At the same time, we implore our elected officials to enact common sense gun reform and pass the following regulations: Ban assault-style firearms Raise the minimum age to purchase firearms to 21 Ban high capacity magazines and bump stocks Require universal background checks that include relevant mental health information and previous interactions with the law Ensure a complete universal database of those banned from buying firearms   Close the private sale and gun show loophole that waives the necessity of background checks We hope others join us in this effort to let our kids know that their pleas are being taken seriously. Some will say these steps can’t guarantee tragedies like Parkland will never happen again. They may be correct – but if common sense reform is enacted and even one life is saved, it will have been worth it. We deeply believe that this country’s most precious gift is our children. They are our future. We must keep them safe. Sincerely,Edward W. Boner, Cars, and Children: shaelit "Cars kill more people than guns! What're you gonna do, regulate cars next?" You idiot. You moron. You utter buffoon Cars ARE regulated The permit test. The permit. The practice year. The regulations on how many hours you have to drive and at what hours and with whom. The driving test. The license. The requirements regarding insurance. License renewals. Road laws. Highway laws. Speed limits. Seatbelt laws. Carseat laws. Laws against drinking and driving and other forms of intoxication. Red lights. Not passing in intersections. Right of way WHO can drive and WHEN and HOW and WHERE are all regulated, because yes, a car in the wrong hands can kill a person. Just like a gun. Oh but wait, there's more! I, as a licensed driver, can't drive anything I want. I can't drivea motorcycle. I can't drive a speedboat. You know what else I can't drive? One of these. To drive a semi-truck, I would need a Commercial Driver's License or CDL There are age limits involved, as well as required hours of training and study. There's a written test and a driving test. There are also medical requirements. And even if I passed all that, you know what I STILL couldn't drive? One of these To drive a semi loaded with hazardous materials, you would have to get a federal H endorsement added to your CDL. And to get that, you have to jump through even MORE hoops, including another written test and a background check. So yeah, guns should be better regulated. Any Joe Blow shouldn't be able to stagger down to a gun show and get himself a sweet piece without some oversight. And ESPECIALLY no one should be getting their hands on a semi-automatic assault rifle like an AR-15, aka the Hazardous Semi Truck of guns. There are professional reasons that a person might need clearance to handle and own such a weapon, but not a civilian. Not an unscreened rando off the street. Try not to be such an utter wanker that you place the mere potential of a power- boner over the lives of actual children like those killed in Parkland, Sandy Hook, and elsewhere prettysicksupply There's also the fact that if I fuck up and njure, or even KILL someone with my vehicle, or another person's vehicle, or a vehicle I'm not even supposed to drive in the first place- I CAN AND WILL BE PUNISHED FOR THAT. I will be made responsible for that damage/death. Insurance exists to help cover the costs of damages- both to cars and people. If my negligence with a vehicle leads to someone's injury or death- my access to vehicles in the future WILL BE COMPROMISED. So yes... we do regulate cars. We also regulate the DAMAGE CAUSED BY THOSE WHO DRIVE THEM chescaleigh also, cars are meant for transportation. sure they can kill people but their sole purpose is not to kill. a gun's ONLY PURPOSE is to maim or kill its target. you can't take a road trip on a gun or load up a gun with groceries. fuck outta here with this bullshit comparison. Cars and guns

America, Children, and College: (((Dan Hodges))) O @DPJHodges In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate. Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over. 6/19/15, 1:07 PM anonymouscomrade: runawaymarbles: conf3ttif4lling: the fact that this was written two years ago and it’s still relevant… what does that tell you? I’ve been saying this for years but guys Sandy Hook.  Sandy Hook was the Nightmare Scenario. It was the “that’s not realistic.” If I’d been arguing with someone who was anti gun control and I said “someone could take a gun and go into a school and kill thirty kindergartners in just a couple of minutes, how would you feel then,” they would have said I was exaggerating, that’s manipulative and unrealistic.  but that’s what happened.  and the thing is if thirty dead, white, upper middle-class kindergartners in Connecticut aren’t going to motivate change on gun control then they’re never going to change for queer people in Florida, and they’re not going to change for music fans in sin city, and they’re not going to change for college students in Washington and Oregon, and they’re not going to change and they’re not going to change.  A white man can buy 19 automatic weapons and no one is going to raise an eyebrow. And then afterwards they’ll send thoughts and prayers.  you wanna know what the really disgusting part is? it wasn’t just that 30 kids were killed at Sandy Hook and they didn’t care enough to finally do something it’s that 30 kids were killed at Sandy Hook, and instead of caring enough to finally do something, some actively dug their heads further in the sand and dismissed the entire thing as a fucking hoax so yeah it’s not just that they’re doing nothing but sending meaningless “thoughts and prayers”, there are people out there doing the equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears and screaming NA NA NA NA NA I CAN’T HEAR YOU
