Candy, Cars, and Children: brakehagev2 Slate.com 5 hrs Slate Dear Prudie: Do I have to give them candy? Help! Kids From Poorer Neighborhoods Keep Trick- or-Treating in Mine Slate.com Dear Prudence I live in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the country, but on one of the more "modest" streets-mostly doctors and lawyers and family business owners. (A few blocks away are billionaires, families with famous last names, media moguls, etc.) I have noticed that on Halloween, what seems like 75 percent of the trick-or-treaters are clearly not from this neighborhood. Kids arrive in overflowing cars from less fortunate areas. I feel this is inappropriate. Halloween isn't a social service or a charity in which I have to buy candy for less fortunate children. Obviously this makes me feel like a terrible person, because what's the big deal about making less fortunate kids happy on a holiday? But it just bugs me, because we already pay more than enough taxes toward actual social services. Should Halloween be a neighborhood activity, or is it legitimately a free-for-all in which people hunt down the best candy grounds for their kids? Slate.com's Post See More > guys this is actually real like a real person wrote this goodtimegang "more than enough" oh you fucking saints, absolutely pouring wealth onto the unfortunates rune-midgarts lol this is amazing ryulongd Dear 99, In the urban neighborhood where I used to live, families who were not from the immediate area would come in fairly large groups to trick-or-treat on our streets, which were safe, well-lit, and full of people overstocked with candy. It was delightful to see the little mermaids, spider-men, ghosts, and the occasional axe murderer excitedly run up and down our front steps, having the time of their lives. So we'd spend an extra $20 to make sure we had enough candy for kids who weren't as fortunate as ours. There you are, 99, on the impoverished side of Greenwich or Beverly Hills, with the other struggling lawyers, doctors, and business owners. Your whine makes me kind of wish that people from the actual poor side of town come this year not with scary costumes but with real pitchforks. Stop being callous and miserly and go to Costco, you cheapskate, and get enough candy to fill the bags of the kids who come one day a year to marvel at how the 1 percent live. -Prudie Dear Prudie I think I just witnessed a murder teaboot You fucking monster wahbegan GET HER PRUDENCE Is it that hard to not be a jerk for one night

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU Reblogging because I WISH I HAD FUCKING KNOWN ABOUT THIS IN HIGH SCHOOL YEARS AGO! Dear sick Kitties, Please save this to your computer because one day you might be well enough to work in some capacity and it’s unfair for you to have blank spots on your resume/CV. You have worth and validity even if you don’t have a huge work history. YOU have value. This is mostly really good, but I have a couple minor disagreements.  So…here are three recommendations from an HR person who reads a shitton of resumes every day: Move the skills section up to the top!  You know what I give a fuck about the most when I’m reading a resume (at least for entry-level positions)?  WHAT YOU CAN DO.  I frankly don’t give a shit where you learned it.  Tell me what you’re capable of in concrete terms, organized in a bullet-points list or table that I can quickly scan to see if you even stand a chance of matching what we need, because that is all I’m doing in those critical first couple of seconds that decides whether I even bother looking at the rest of the resume.  (Which I get sounds kinda callous but when I have to get through a couple dozen resumes, meaning download, open, read, decide what to do, forward it to the appropriate person if it makes the cut with my comments/summary/recommendations, file it appropriately and go on to the next one, and get back to my other duties and responsibilities - which I don’t have enough hours in the day for as it is - I can’t afford to depth-read every single resume that hits my inbox.) Include volunteer experience as work experience if you have any.  Running the concession stand at a high school club event of some kind counts as cash handling and customer service experience.  Making blog themes for your friends counts as web design experience.  Just because you weren’t getting paid doesn’t mean it wasn’t work experience you can potentially leverage to get actual paying work. Rework that top statement - in its current form it’s looking like some odd hybrid of an executive summary (good!) and an objective statement (bad!), and I’m not sure how I feel about it tbh.  I think it’s the “leveraging…to positively contribute” bit that is pushing all my “ugh no fucking shit sherlock” buttons.  Like…what were you going to say, that you want to skate along doing the bare minimum amount of work and you don’t give a shit about the organization’s goals?  I see way too many regurgitated statements like that - “positively contribute” and “maximize success” and “utilize my skills to further goals” etc. - and they just make my eyes roll out of my head at this point because they’re so generically corporate.  I’d rather see a declarative statement about what you are and what you can do, than what you want. However, huge massive bonus points for putting language fluency right there at the top where I don’t have to go hunting for it - language skills are ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS A PLUS and you want to highlight that shit as hard as you can.  Shove that language fluency in my fucking face, PLEASE.  Better that than having to scour your work history for mention of translation or anything like that, which I will only do if I’m A: already liking your qualifications so far, and B: totally fucking desperate for someone who speaks goddamn Spanish already.

Apparently, Crazy, and Facebook: report-a-predator Anonymous asked crazy-possum-lady is a zoophilia and animal rapist who lives in australia. It's even worse because she works for an animal rescue and has pets. You can find her blog by googling it but you cannnot find it you use the blog search on tumblr. report-a-predator answered Thank You!!l Okay guys Alright so if you guys can report them to the Australian authorities.- mod sparks deuslock: but-call-me-kat: Sorry to break the news, but you did not report the person behind that blog. Instead, you reported me. And I am still suffering the consequences. I did not run that blog. Yes, they used my image. All my pictures from Facebook and Instagram, my statuses, even the captions. And then interspersed them with animal abuse images, fantasies about beastiality, other fucking disgusting sentiments. You people found my Facebook, where I listed my wildlife rescue group. You didn’t think, for a moment, that it was odd that none of these abuse fantasies appeared on Facebook. A girl who was apparently willing to put her face, her location, the names of her family her local fucking vet clinic on her zoophilic Tumblr page, strangely had none of these thoughts on a just-as-public Facebook page. Not one single person thought, “This is a bit odd, maybe I should reach out to this person just to confirm that it’s them.” You people, high on some fantastical idea of justice, called the authorities. And I did not even know about the existence of the blog until the RSPCA showed up on my doorstep one night. THEY, thankfully, had the sense to believe me. As soon as they showed me the page and I broke down in tears, they got the idea. So they told me to go to the police. The police palmed me off to ACORN (a cybercrime body) who dismissed the case because “nobody in the images was under the age of 18.” Meanwhile, Tumblr had taken the page down, only for it to resurface again last year. I then pursued a civil case. Emailed lawyers in my local city. They advised me only to take it to Tumblr, who shut down the page a second time. No further action was taken. I never received another call from wildlife rescue because I was unable to prove that I did not run this disgusting blog. Wildlife is my biggest passion in the world and I may never work in that industry until I can clear my name. So I messaged this page - report-a-predator. They told me to prove it - fair enough. So I sent them EVERYTHING. The screenshots, my emails to ACORN and SAPOL and Tumblr and the lawyers. They did not respond. I emailed them again, begging them to clear my name. They did not respond. I am furious. I am fucking enraged that this post even still exists on their page, because the actions of this so-called “justice group” has directly impacted the life of an innocent person and they will do nothing to acknowledge it. Not even respond to a simple email. Not even take down the incriminating post. I know my blog is tiny, I know nobody follows it, I know this will probably never be seen. But I am not going to be silent. If you’re ever caught up in a whirlwind of pseudo-justice, maybe check the facts first. Oh, look, another example of callous culture ruining people’s fucking lives.

I want to point out that the title of what seems to be the paper is <a href="http://www.xyonline.net/sites/default/files/Kimmel,%20Gender%20symmetry%20in%20dom.pdf">““Gender Symmetry” in Domestic Violence”<br/></a></p><p>This is the first time in my memory I’ve seen a paper with <b>air-quotes in the title</b>. Scanning through the paper, he claims that MRAs aren’t motivated by a desire to actually improve things for male victims, but to derail and “disrupt” initiatives for female victims. Oddly enough, he neglects to provide any evidence or support for this claim. <b>Listen and Believe</b>, I guess.<br/></p><p>Leaving all that aside, on the PDF’s page 14, last paragraph, Kimmel claims that other studies support the claims he makes with Smith quoted, and that it’s the intuitive conclusion, because women are taught to just accept being abused. Which is weird, because last time I checked, in Western society, <b>men are still generally told not to hit women, even in self-defense</b>. Women are allowed to slap men around in public without people batting an eye. In fact, <a href="http://web.csulb.edu/~mfiebert/assault.htm">there are <b>hundreds of studies</b> indicating men and women are <b>equally as likely</b> to be <b>abusers</b></a>. Thing is, if abuse is severe enough to get the police to believe the man the victim, he’s more likely to follow through. A lot of <b>male</b> abuse <b>victims call the cops</b> and get booked for <b>forcing the woman</b> to <b>“defend herself”</b>. At which point they probably stop calling the cops.<br/></p><p> Among other things, Karen Ingala Smith repeatedly brings up the fact that women are more likely to be killed by a partner or ex-partner as evidence that they’re less likely to be abusers. <br/></p><p>Of course, the obvious flaw in this logic is that <b>sampling (ex-)partner murders isn’t going to be representative of DV</b>. Or even an example of DV; what if some dude comes home and finds his GF having sex with the <strike>mailman</strike> postman and just <b>goes nuts</b>, like that one dude in the first act of Minority Report? He was a loving husband right up until that moment. What if someone kills their partner for insurance money?</p><p>She <a href="https://archive.is/4lxvF#selection-367.0-367.129">claims elsewhere that there’s no systemic bias in women’s favor</a>. Why? Because women are, allegedly, more likely to be arrested on DV calls when identified as the perpetrator (1/10 for men vs 1/3 for women). Note that Smith switches between studies about the UK (like this one) and US at the drop of a hat, despite her main area of concern being the UK. Note also that <a href="http://www.nr-foundation.org.uk/downloads/Who-Does-What-to-Whom.pdf">the study in question</a> relies, again, <a href="https://archive.is/9PG9i">on who the <i>police</i> think are perps</a>. You know, <b>the very people whose bias is under question</b>. I apologize for what seems like <a href="http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=gamedropping&amp;defid=8261028">gamedropping</a>, but this is really the first thing I think of;<br/></p><figure class="tmblr-full" data-orig-height="462" data-orig-width="600"><img data-orig-height="462" data-orig-width="600" alt="image" src="https://78.media.tumblr.com/525551372cd1ee61930440f3be7afcfa/tumblr_inline_nnzwawMAUs1sps4wz_540.png"/></figure><p>As <a href="https://archive.is/9VIn7#selection-4817.0-4817.5">Ally Fogg points out</a> (<a href="https://archive.is/9VIn7#selection-5255.15-5267.10">and someone who claims to have worked at a shelter backs him up about this being the party line</a>) the study Smith is referencing also repeatedly downplays male victimization, describing mutual abuse in terms of male aggression and female self-defense, and generally goes “well, it’s worse for women”. And did I mention that the study was apparently done in the name of the Violence Against Women Studies Group at U of Bristol? No bias here, no sir.<br/></p><p>Oh, and <b>she’s the type of feminist who says men shouldn’t be feminists</b>, and that feminism isn’t about men, and that <a href="https://archive.is/9f4I1#selection-197.0-197.574">men just mess up feminism with their pesky concerns about men’s issues as well as women</a>, but can’t quite seem to grasp why people think she doesn’t care about men.<br/></p><figure class="tmblr-full" data-orig-height="351" data-orig-width="629"><img data-orig-height="351" data-orig-width="629" alt="image" src="https://78.media.tumblr.com/9ea6e9a69d6e7f1d18bed02a1be2a6d4/tumblr_inline_nnymn1OyTI1sps4wz_540.jpg"/></figure><p>For some reason.<br/></p></blockquote>
