College, Gif, and Tumblr: TO LIBERALS PROTESTING THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE: THISIS THE PRESIDENTIAL VOTE BYCOUNTY NOTE THE Margin of victory, % MARGIN OF→ 5 mil-O 20 VICTORY Democrat Republican WITHOUT THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE, PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS WOULD ONLY FOCUS ON THE INTERESTS OF NYC, CA, AND A HANDFUL OF HIGHLY DENSE CITIES, IGNORING THE INTERESTS OF LESS POPULOUS STATES!
redbloodedamerica:

A note on double standards and a message to the left: The electoral college is essentially a progressive policy. It allocates EC votes based largely on population but then weighs less populace states slightly heavier than they’d weigh organically while mildly reducing the influence of the more populous states. That protects the interests of the minority, as to avoid elections which focus almost exclusively on the approval of NY, CA, and a handful of highly-dense cities, with no reason to concern oneself with the interests of the less populous states.

It’s similar in ideology to a progressive income tax whereby the less fortunate are slightly propped up at the expense of the exceedingly fortunate. It’s similar in concept to affirmative action, whereby the historically disenfranchised are assisted as to overcome a trend of marginalization. It’s also similar to the structure of Congress, where the interests of the people (house of representatives weighted on population) are blended with the interests of sovereign states (weighted equally with two senate seats each), again to protect the minority from being ignored while also advancing the interests of the majority.

So to the despondent liberals protesting the supposed unfairness of the Electoral College, I say, be consistent. Had such a system benefited YOUR candidate, you’d passionately champion it as a means to balance the interests of the minority. THE ONLY REASON YOU’RE AGAINST IT IS BECAUSE IT HAPPENED TO HARM YOUR PREFERRED CANDIDATE. THAT’s a double standard.

Apparently, Bernie Sanders, and College: U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders 10 hrs Donald Trump tapped into the anger of a declining middle class that is sick and tired of establishment economics, establishment politics and the establishment media. People are tired of working longer hours for lower wages, of seeing decent paying jobs go to China and other low-wage countries, of billionaires not paying any federal income taxes and of not being able to afford a college education for their kids all while the very rich become much richer To the degree that Mr. Trump is serious about pursuing policies that improve the lives of working families in this country, I and other progressives are prepared to work with him. To the degree that he pursues racist, sexist, xenophobic and anti- environment policies, we will vigorously oppose him datgucciboi: c-bassmeow: to some of u who are saying Bernie is racist for making this statement you are so stupid. Trump won because he was a populist. Populism and anti-establishment rhetoric were what the people were craving. You know who else was a populist? Bernie. Bernie also tapped into the anger of the working class but used it in the right way. Trump did what Bernie did but sprinkled racism, sexism, and conspiracy theories. Had the DNC not fucked Sanders over we wouldn’t be having this discussion. Almost no one would have taken Trump seriously. But we have to give credit where its due. Trump created a movement. Trump’s success is partly due to his ability to tap into the frustration of the disenfranchised white working class. Unfortunately he won’t deliver but that’s not the point. If you actually did research and listened Trump’s speeches he did a very good job at pretending to care for the working class. TRUMP won because he appealed to RACEST PEOPLE…pointBlankPeriod that is who he appealed to Black racist white racist and etc…and for anyone including Bernie Sanders the media to label them anything other then a RACIST isn’t only irresponsible but FUCKED UP! He called out trumps racism like if you can read its there. But its cus people like you who cant critically analyze why the dems lost that we will lose again cus the dems are partly to blame for this. Im not gonna explain it again cus apparently it goes through one end and out the other. Racism was a major part of trumps campaign but it wasnt the only reason why he won and people voted for him. The democrats were elitist, corrupt, and failed to motivate their base. No one is denying the racism in trumps campaign but nvm honestly nvm lmao omg this is hopeless
