Be Like, Club, and Fake: a tale of trees and espionage okay story time: my professor (lovely man, married to our TA, 52", about as So studies trees. it was about three hours into our social sciences course, last lecture before exams, everyone was frazzled and exhausted, so he told us about his most exciting/in-depth research to date to cheer us up. (the few of us who actually showed up were like ok sir im sure its fascinating but in our minds we were totally like its trees what. is. exciting. about trees. You might be wondering the same thing-the acorns? the leaves? the roots? BUT NO. IMMA FUCKIN TELL YA.) ANYWAY we settle in, he had a few pictures loaded up from his field work (we were chuckling at this point.... 'hehehe field work' i giggled to my frend. its trees.) and began to tell his tale. it's long, imma warn you, but.... god. just read it theres an species of tree called the cucumber tree(Magnolia in our region there's only-280 that are registered by the government, yadda yadda yadda, my prof thought that was tragic (i know) but also strange, because when he was writing his thesis about local trees years ago, he kept coming across cucumber trees in really random places. we're talking like etc. IMPOSSIBLE because, according to tree very strictly protected by the govenment, and thus super legai to possess, transport, collect, buy or sell any part of a living or dead member of a listed species if it originates from sources. essentially, the govt takes control over g the trees and anyone who independently raises them is breaking the law (i kno) so he'd ask people "do you have a permit for these trees?" and they were like "uh no, it's just a tree someone sold me,i think it looks nice, are you gonna arrest me?" so he'd be like nah nah nah just tell me who sold it to you" eventually, months/years later, someone did, and turns out it was like this underground sort-of illegal tree dealing club (i know). so my prof went, got a bit of funding from the government, who were getting pissed at independent cucumber tree numbers, and THIS IS WHERE IT GETS INTO THE GOOD SHIT I STS he infitrates the tree trafficking organization. he buys a cucumber tree from an independent nursery, raises it for months, ensures he gets noticed by the traffickers, and then INFILTRATES it and convinces its leader to LET HIM JOIN he has to pay like a steep entrance fee, which he does (and it blows my mind that the government of my country paid money to illegal tree dealers), but then he is given full access to records and maps because they think he's one of them, not now this part blows my mind because the tree lords don't even have to try very hard to find cucumber trees because government agents MARK THE TREES AND DISTINCTLY TAG THEM SAYING THIS IS ENDANGERED DO NOT hangs out with the members so much that he figures out their hit spots". these are where the trees are relatively secluded and unguarded. (he writes all this shit and numbers down for BUT THATS NOT ENOUGH BECAUSE THE GOVT SAYS HES WASTING THEIR FUNDING IF HE DOESNT HAVE PROOF and they are willing to take LEGAL ACTION for misuse of funding (my prof doesn't have the money nore time nor power to take them to court, which would also blow his cover). so my prof literally STAKES OUT a copse of cucumber trees at a recognized wildlife reserve for. DAYS. he camps there, and watches the trees, is about to give up, he's going off an unreliable rumor from the traffickers that a harvester would be going there within the next week. finally, this guy comes and takes the cucumber tree seeds from the CLEARLY MARKED trees by the government, and my prof takes pictures (we are shown these pictures, most of us are speechless at this point). dozens of candid shots of a man my grandpa's age with a grocery store bag, garden shears, and a ladder, clipping away the illegal seeds and then going on his way so my prof has the proof, he's been undercover for months now at this point, he writes up his report, gives it to the government who is likeoh shit", helps them draft up a new LESS COMPLETELY FUCKING OBVious way of marking e wouldn't damage them further, etc.), and then never retuns to the tree traffickers. he'd given them a fake name, address, (so that way there was a full minute of stunned silence from us students at this point, during which he grew more and more nervous (again, he's a muffin) and all of us students are just like whoa. we asked him what happened to the remaining illegal cucumber trees & if he turned the tree dealers in to the government, and that is when he smiles a little bit and shows us the last few pictures. because here's the kicker... he never turned the smugglers in. he burned all the data he collected, defied the government pressuring him to turn them in, and the only reason he's not incarcerated is because his work is so prominent in certain circles now & universities love him, that there would be an uproar if he got arrested. he's like a fucking anti-hero and then he tells us (ill never forget, it's the most inspirational green-thumb thing in the world) "it may be illegal', but those who risk their liberty to-save the world- should never be reprimanded, no matter what we are all stunned. some of us are considering dendrology as a field we'd now be interested in pursuing. he clicks his slide one final time, before we leave our last lecture and, since he had an asthma attack (lil muffin) he didn't attend our exam, so and there, on the slides, the last picture? THERE HE IS. in his own backyard. with his equally lovely TA wife. both grinning GROWN. ILLEGAL. CUCUMBER TREE 72,767 Tree espionage
Blessed, Food, and Money: FOOD THAT Growing anything from a seed is impressive but also difficult, unless you're blessed with a green thumb. THaT MAGICALLY REGEROWS ITSELF Sure, it saves on money but there has to be an easier way... and there is! You can actually grow food from kitchen scraps. There is something very MacGyver about It's true! You can upcycle everything from celery scraps to onion butts with chance of success. Use organic fruits and vegetables for the best results. that, no? a great Green onions, lemongrass, leeks, fennel, & spring onions FOR LEMONGRASS ONLY Place root ends in water but don't fully submerge them. Change the water daily In 3-5 days, growth begins. Harvest the greens when full, then repeat the process Harvest lemongrass once it becomes a foot tall. Simply cut off what you need without uprooting the plant. Celery, cabbage, romaine lettuce, & bok chou Submerge the roots, leaving the tops above the water line. Spray with water a couple times a week, replacing the water every few days. Leaves will sprout in about a week. Plant the cutting with only the leaves above soil. Harvest when fully grown, about 5 months. Ginger Soak the chunk of ginger overnight. Submerge in moist soil. Keep watering until shoots appear Ready to harvest in a year. Simply remove entire plant, use what you need and repeat. Onion Plant root end and lightly cover it in soil. Keep soil moist. Carefully separate the new onions, leaving the roots attached, and plant them. Occasionally cut the leaves down to promote full growth. It can take up to 5 months for plants to mature enough for harvest. Garlic The bulbs will be ready for harvest in early summer when the bottom 1/3 of the leaves have yellowed. The larger the clove, the larger the resulting bulb. Sit the plant in a sunny window keeping the soil moist. COMPOST REMOVE Mushroonm Use a mixture of compost and soil. Plant the mushroom stalk in the soil with only the surface of it exposed. If the cutting takes, new growth happens q Harvest and repeat. uickly 4 DEEP HOLE Potatoes& Sweet Potatoes 8 DEPTH Cut into 2 pieces, each having 1-2 "eyes" on it Set pieces out at room temp for a few days, until fully dry St ore sweet potatoes in a warm, dry place for 2 weeks before using. This is what makes them sweet. 12" APART Add more soil as the plant grows until i is about 6" tall Pineapple Slice off the green leafy top and remove all fruit. Carefully remove the bottom layers until you see root buds. Growth happens in the first few months but it will be Place in water for two weeks to form roots. 2-3 years before harvest. The total firearms murder rate that year was 0.3/100,000. From 1980-1995, Australian firearms deaths dropped from 4.9/100,000-2.6/100,000 without the implementation of firearms laws. This is a rate of decline that has remained fairly constant; Looking at 1996-2014, in which the rate has dropped from 2.6-0.86, it shows that the decline has been slower in a longer period of time since the law’s passing. Likewise, homicides declined more quickly in the 15 years prior to the firearms laws (0.8-0.3) than in the 18 years since it (0.3-0.1). This just indicates that firearms deaths haven’t been noticeably affected by the legislation you’ve claimed has done so much to decrease gun crime. <br/></p> <p>It should also be noted that around the same time, New Zealand experienced a similar mass shooting, but did not change their existing firearms laws, which remain fairly lax; even moreso than some American states like California, New York, or Connecticut. Despite this, their firearms crime rate has declined fairly steadily as well, and they haven’t experienced a mass shooting since.</p> <p>The <i>“australia banned guns and now they’re fine”</i> argument is really old and really poorly put together. Gun control is little more than a pink band-aid on the sucking chest wound that is America’s social and economic problems. It’s a ‘quick fix’ issue used by politicians to skirt around solving the roots of the violence problem in the United States, which are primarily poverty, lack of opportunities, and lack of education.</p> <p>You could ban guns tomorrow nationwide and gun violence and overall violent crime would not be reduced at all.</p> <p><i>[this segment brought to you by <a href="http://tmblr.co/m9F_132GzodNt-UaipnK67g">cerebralzero</a>]</i></p> <p>In 2005 the head of the New South Wales Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research, Don Weatherburn,<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Australia#cite_note-37">[37]</a> noted that the level of legal gun ownership in NSW increased in recent years, and that the 1996 legislation had had little to no effect on violence</p> <p>In 2006, the lack of a measurable effect from the 1996 firearms legislation was reported in the British Journal of Criminology. Using ARIMA analysis, Dr Jeanine Baker and Dr Samara McPhedran found no evidence for an impact of the laws on homicide.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Australia#cite_note-40">[40]</a></p> <p>A study coauthored by Simon Chapman <b>found declines in firearm‐related deaths before the law reforms</b> accelerated after the reforms for total firearm deaths (p=0.04), firearm suicides (p=0.007) and firearm homicides (p=0.15), but not for the smallest category of unintentional firearm deaths, which increased.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Australia#cite_note-43">[43]</a></p> <p>Subsequently, a study by McPhedran and Baker compared the incidence of mass shootings in <b>Australia and New Zealand</b>. Data were standardised to a rate per 100,000 people, to control for differences in population size between the countries and mass shootings before and after 1996/1997 were compared between countries. <b>That study found that in the period 1980–1996, both countries experienced mass shootings. The rate did not differ significantly between countries. The authors conclude that “the hypothesis that Australia’s prohibition of certain types of firearms explains the absence of mass shootings in that country since 1996 does not appear to be supported… if civilian access to certain types of firearms explained the occurrence of mass shootings in Australia (and conversely, if prohibiting such firearms explains the absence of mass shootings), then New Zealand (a country that still allows the ownership of such firearms) would have continued to experience mass shooting events.”<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_laws_in_Australia#cite_note-44">[44]</a></p> <figure data-orig-width="500" data-orig-height="261" class="tmblr-full"><img data-orig-width="500" data-orig-height="261" src="https://78.media.tumblr.com/cdc45e76a09651676eab1f058341110c/tumblr_inline_nynm84pBjF1sh8jq3_500.gif"/></figure><p>We see the same trend in The UK.</p> <figure data-orig-width="500" data-orig-height="373" class="tmblr-full"><img data-orig-width="500" data-orig-height="373" src="https://78.media.tumblr.com/bf599e784e9963b91a4e4f245fed90f5/tumblr_inline_nynm9wKrKT1sh8jq3_540.png"/></figure><figure data-orig-width="458" data-orig-height="366" class="tmblr-full"><img data-orig-width="458" data-orig-height="366" src="https://78.media.tumblr.com/279f61b9c596b97badd4bc465cc46b60/tumblr_inline_nynm9zWkxr1sh8jq3_540.png"/></figure><p>And Ireland and Jamaica…</p> <figure data-orig-width="453" data-orig-height="714" class="tmblr-full"><img data-orig-width="453" data-orig-height="714" src="https://78.media.tumblr.com/4914c912d5690b40a382b90cf18c646f/tumblr_inline_nynmakqIup1sh8jq3_540.jpg"/></figure><p>And on and on and on…  Gun control simply does not create a safer society and often times actually has the opposite effect.</p> <p>At this point I should also probably point out that Australia’s gun laws have not even reduced gun ownership in Australia.  <a href="http://louderwithcrowder.com/australian-gun-ownership-rises-gun-crime-remains-low-america-still-at-fault/">In fact, gun ownership in Australia is actually higher now than in 1996.</a></p> <p>All of these inconvenient facts aside, we haven’t even touched on the cost of implementing Australian style gun control in America.</p> <p>I keep hearing people say that the US should adopt Australia’s gun control policy and I don’t think they have really thought about the big picture of that plan.</p> <p>Australia had far less guns per person and people in their country did not live in a society that was brought up respecting The 2nd Amendment.  The culture of Australia is very different than that of the culture of America when it comes to gun ownership and self defense.</p> <p>Because of this, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_buyback_program#Australia">the Australian government was able to buy back 631,000 guns at the estimated price of about <b>$500,000,000.</b></a>  You read that correctly, <b>500 MILLION</b>.</p> <p><a href="http://cerebralzero.tumblr.com/tagged/australia">And even after all of that, it still did nothing to prevent violent crime and criminals in Australia still have access to illegal guns, </a>despite being an island country that isn’t bordered by other countries with high violent crime rates and rampant with illegal drug cartels.<br/></p> <p>There are over 360,000,000 legally owned firearms in America.  If we go by Australia’s numbers (<b>$792.39 per gun</b>), these guns would cost our government <b>$285,261,489,698.89</b> to buy back.  Almost <b>300 BILLION dollars</b>, assuming that every gun owner voluntarily turns in their guns…  Which is a very slim to nothing chance.</p> <p>Who’s going to pay for that?  Anti-gunners?  I think not.</p> <p>So, in closing, you want America to put in place gun legislation that will cost the country hundreds of billions of dollars <b>AND </b>has already been proven time and time again to be completely ineffective at protecting innocent lives or creating a safer society?</p> <p>Seems pretty silly.</p> <h2>Get dunked on, nerd.</h2> <figure data-orig-width="250" data-orig-height="188"><img data-orig-width="250" data-orig-height="188" src="https://78.media.tumblr.com/36a75ffd7a3ce392092201d3769d443e/tumblr_inline_nynmeusS661sh8jq3_500.gif"/></figure></blockquote> <p><figure class="tmblr-full" data-orig-height="281" data-orig-width="500" data-tumblr-attribution="eonline:S4A57ljapSvQXLPM7Jsomg:ZCTZKx1sDpydf"><img src="https://78.media.tumblr.com/5b521c18948099c6594a510905c6dfe9/tumblr_nt8sq3NZGm1qlgbzbo1_500.gif" data-orig-height="281" data-orig-width="500"/></figure></p> </blockquote> <p>Teehee, Mac ‘n’ cheese</p> </blockquote> <p>Would make it clear that a gv’t buyback has never been on the table. She’s recommending massive pruning until it gets under control, but considering how high that bitch is I don’t think that’s feasible.</p> </blockquote> <p>Hahahahaha, we tried to kill this thing when we first moved in back in 2015 by cutting it all the way down to ground level and etd tried to kill the roots with literal poison cause we didnt want to try and deal with pruning something where the largest thorn was the length of my pinky finger. She grew back taller within 4 months, absorbed her trellis into her vines and continued to bloom right up until December. <i>In Minnesota</i>. </p> <p>Last year she retained her blooms until January of this year. Everything else besides the neighborhood evergreens was dead, and we had hot pink blooms in -20'c weather, in several feet of snow. </p> <p>Ain’t <i>shit </i> gonna kill this thing, and since Tumblr adopted her as my plant familiar to go with the rest of my weird ass house (the tags new folk are looking for are #the house that cthulu built and #demon rose) I’ve started talking to her and she’s the god damn healthiest most terrifying thing in our yard. I love her. </p> <p>I’m going to attempt to do some delicate pruning this year and nudge her back onto a trellis (several trellises…trelli?), cause the way her thorns tap against the living room window when the wind blows is a tiny bit unnerving, but yea, nah. 6ft Demon Rose is here to stay. I’ve made my peace with this.</p> <p>Especially after last year when I made the comment in passing about needing to kill the lily cluster by the side of our house that had spring up in their hundreds (I am very very not good allergic to all lilies), and she expanded outward and quite literally <i>throttled them with her roots. </i> That was…considerate of her… </p> </blockquote> <p>Holy shit I have a rose in my back garden <em>IDENTICAL </em>to that. </p> <p>I call it the Felony Rose, since I kindasortamaybe <em>technically </em>stole it. </p> <p>They were gonna bulldoze an old farmhouse that had this huge (15x20) rosebush growing alongside it. So, I rolled up with the truck and a shovel and a pair of hedge clippers around midnight. </p> <p>Dug that whole monster out (which involved much sweat, blood, and swearing) whacked it back to a manageable size, and took it home. </p> <p>It is now in my back garden, eating my coral bells and lilies and cackling to itself as it spreads. </p> <p>It is also electric pink. Bodies , Energy, and God: If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration. Nikola Tesla @truth soci The entire physical universe is made up of pure energy and vibration. When you have the insight to see everything as vibration, the nature of the universe is revealed to you. Various groups of people around the world have been aware of this concept for thousands of years. - Ancient Vedic teachers taught Nada Brahma (the universe is vibration). The vibratory field is at the root of all true spiritual experience and scientific investigation. It is the same field of energy that saints, buddhas, yogis, mystics, priests, shamans and seers have observed by looking within themselves. - The vibratory nature of matter is mentioned in the Bible, John 1:1 says "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." The ‘Word’ in this verse is the Greek word ‘logos’, which in the Bible is used to delineate speech and faculties of the mind like thinking and reasoning. - We know that speech means not just any kind of a vibration, but a vibration that carries information, is uttered by a living person and embodies a concept or an idea. In this case it means that the Creator created an intelligent vibration which then created everything else. - "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration." -Nikola Tesla - Now watch the video again and imagine how the source vibration of the universe might affect the molecular composition of our bodies and ultimately influence the larger dance of life.
Birthday, Energy, and Facts: Full Moon Tonight/tomorrow morning in Capricorn makes us find balance between our emotional needs and our worldly ambitions and goals. As the Sun (father) is in the sign of Cancer (mother) and the Moon (mother) is in the sign of Capricorn (father), we are being asked to balance the divine feminine and masculine as well. This Full Moon is also charged up by the energy of Mars (action and fire) and Pluto (transformation) LAW OF POSITIVISM Via @law_of_positivism - The Full Moon on the 9th of July at 12.07 AM EDT will have the Sun and Mars opposing the Moon and Pluto. With the Full Moon in Capricorn, the Universe is asking us to find balance between our roots to family and Mother Earth and the roots with society and ancestry. The sign of Capricorn is one of ambitions, hard work, patriarch, earth and structures while Cancer is all about our emotions, nurturing and motherly energies. Capricorn may seem emotionless, but they do also feel deep emotions, without expressing them as much as Cancer. The Moon will be standing with Pluto, so even the more structured and disciplined aspect of ourselves are being moved and transformed as the Sun is asking us to connect back to the Divine Mother and our deep emotional reality. It is also about gaining back the power that we have given to society to rule our lives and has desensitized so many of us. Mars standing together with the Sun gives us the fire we need to take action in order to get our own unique power back. So this Full Moon especially affect Cancers, Capricorns, Aries and Libras the most Beside being a powerful Full Moon, it is also my birthday on the 9th of July! So some facts about having a Full Moon on your birthday: it is a time of seeing hard work getting paid off and also being grateful for what has come to fruition. At the Full Moon we harvest what haw grown from our seeds and intentions and since our birthday rarely aligns with Full Moons, this is truly a powerful time of completion and endings and blooming out fully energetically. Memes, Music, and Radio: "I have the impression that many of us are afraid of silence. We're always taking in something-text, music, radio, television, or thoughts-to occupy the space. If quiet and space are so important for our happiness, why don't we make more room for them in our lives?" Thich Nhat Hahn Via @conscious_collective 😊 That silent space is our very being, our own consciousness, the ground of our existence. When we can be in this space without trying to escape it, or fill it with our past knowledge, we come to understand our true Self as this ever present awareness that lies beyond the mind. Realizing this, we also understand that this awareness lies at the root of all existence, not just our own. And from this understanding of our shared existence, compassion is born. We see our Self in others, and we respect and care for our Self in them. How can there be violence, hatred, greed, manipulation, etc. when we realize that all beings are one? Do not run away from (y)our true Self, from that silent space, that unknown silence in which all of our thoughts, memories, words, beliefs, plans, hopes, fears, etc. lose their solidity, and all that remains is this awareness, this Beingness, which is always right here and now. This awareness is not dull or lifeless. It is blissful, intelligent, and alert-and when you can relax your mind and trust in your Self, allowing your Self to behave naturally without fear of judgment, you can allow this awareness to move naturally with your direct experience and swim with the flowing river of the ever changing present moment. Unattached, unaffected, yet adaptable, present and aware. Pure Consciousness, the Source of our Being, is a living field of infinite potential. This potential lies dormant within you, and you can tap into it and let it stream unobstructed, as long as you are willing to allow it, surrender your ego to it, and trust it, as you are it, and by trying to resist it and run away from it, you are only fighting against yourself. - conscious_collective • OneLove

America, Donald Trump, and Fbi: REVOLT Rippedemup.com Cuba will keep Assata Shakur, despite Trump's request to return her to U.S A top Cuban official says returning the prison escapee is "off the table.' President DonaldTrump has asked Cuba to return American fugitive AssataShakur to the United States, but a top Cuban official has said that the country's government has no plans to. "I can say it is off the table," Gustavo Machin, deputy director for American affairs at the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reportedly told Yahoo News. Assata Shakur was a member of the Black Panther Party in the 1960s and 1970s, and was convicted in 1977 of murdering a police officer. Many believe Shakur was targeted and framed by COINTELPRO, an FBI-sanctioned program that was used to neutralize people and organizations involved in the Civil Rights Movement (among others). Shakur served six and a half years in prison before escaping in 1979 and fleeing to Cuba, where she received political asylum from Fidel Castro. She has lived in Cuba ever since, and remains on the FBI's most wanted fugitives list, with a $2 million bounty. Artists like The Roots, Jay Z, and Common, who has a song titled "A Song For Assata," have all mentioned or paid homage to her legacy in their music. Last week, President Donald Trump revealed plans to cancel policy from the Obama Adminstration that eased longstanding tensions between America and Cuba. He then called for Cuba to "return the fugitives from American justice, including the return of the cop killer Joanne Chesimard," referring to Shakur by her former name. Machin said Cuba has no plans to return her to the U.S., because its government believes that she was unjustly imprisoned in the first place. “There are very serious doubts about that case," Machin said. "We consider that a politically motivated case against that lady." Via @revolttv revolttv realrozay rozayblog

Being Alone, Life, and Memes: "Until we heal the root cause of our suffering and awaken to our true nature, our inherent confusion will continue to manifest itself in the world around us." -Joseph P. Kauffman KOO Via @conscious_collective - "Because we feel ourselves to be separate from the world in which we live, we have also grown to feel quite alone in this world. Our sense of loneliness and isolation not only makes us feel depressed and miserable, but it also causes us to be anxious and afraid of the world and everyone in it. Because of this inherent fear, we put up all kinds of barriers to protect us from the world—barriers that we have created to keep us safe, but that really end up making us feel more alone, more miserable, and more afraid, as they prevent us from being our natural selves. • We have become disconnected from our true selves, and naturally, this has produced a deep sense of lack in our lives, causing us to endlessly search for happiness in objects, experiences, and people to fill the emptiness and make us feel whole again. We crave pleasure, material riches, and stimulating experiences—anything that will distract us from this inherent lack of connection. But no matter how hard we try to escape it, eventually the sensation returns. And that is because we are looking for the answer to our freedom in all the wrong places. We are looking for freedom in the world, when the answer to ending our suffering lies within us. Until we heal the root cause of our suffering, and awaken to our true nature, our inherent confusion will continue to manifest itself in the world around us. • It is because we feel that we are separate from nature that we also feel it is okay to manipulate it, pollute it, and cause it harm. We project our inner turmoil onto the planet, causing outer turmoil. Nearly all of the disasters of our time—war, famine, oppression, social injustice, environmental pollution, extinction—arise from this delusional belief that we have an existence independent of the world we live in. All of this misery, all of this destruction, all of this pain and suffering, is caused by our failure to realize that there is no separation and that really we are all one." -A quote from the book "The Answer Is YOU" 💚🌲 @theansweris_you • TheAnswerIsYOU Nature Life Oneness awakespiritual wisdom
