Chicago, Crime, and Life: At age 18, Willie Reed risked his life to appear as a surprise witness in the Emmett Till Murder Trial theblaquelioness @theblaquelioness Willie Reed did not know Emmett Till, the young man whose murder in the Mississippi Delta became one of the most infamous lynchings in the history of the Jim Crow South. Mr. Reed saw him only once โ€” on Aug. 28, 1955, during the last hours of Tillโ€™s life โ€” in the back of a green and white Chevrolet pickup truck. Mr. Reed, a sharecropper, risked his life at 18 to appear as a surprise witness in the prosecution of the white men accused of the crime. He became the momentary hero of the Till trial, an event that helped spur the civil rights movement. Mr. Reed passed away in 2013 at a hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois. He was 76, and he had lived in Chicago under a different name โ€” first in secrecy and later in relative obscurity โ€” since fleeing Mississippi for his safety over 65 years ago. For decades, he had worked as a hospital orderly. Mr. Reed knew speaking out against the defendants in the case would make him, too, a target for lynching. But he โ€œcouldnโ€™t have walked away,โ€ he said years later. โ€œEmmett was 14,โ€ Mr. Reed told the CBS News show โ€œ60 Minutes,โ€ โ€œand they killed him. I mean, thatโ€™s not right. . . . I knew that I couldnโ€™t say no. Via: washingtonpost.com WillieReed EmmettTill theblaquelioness

Chicago, Definitely, and Racism: Mikki Kendall @Karnythia I always forget that people think majority white areas in the US happened organically. POC populations would be higher, the country would be majority POC 40 Mikki Kendall @Karnythia 1h Throw in the attempted genocide of Indigenous nations & the stealing of their lands & you start to get an idea of how the US got this way. 2 1 36 Mikki Kendall@Karnythia 1h Now, this is why I get so annoyed at the myth that the US was ever a "white" country. I feel like even if this wasnโ€™t a majority white country, white supremacy would still definitely function in a way that preserves itself. Bringing this back because redlining isnโ€™t just some old-time practice from the past. Redlining is still going on today. In 2018. Banks are currently turning away qualified black homebuyers from affluent white neighborhoods. Banks are still denying home loans to black people with excellent credit when we try to buy in mostly white neighborhoods. Video: https://youtu.be/AqaCsJXUehQ Itโ€™s organized, institutional racism. Banks will give huge home loans to poorly qualified white people to gentrify historically black neighborhoods, but not the other way around.

Albert Einstein, America, and Blackhistory: Albert Einstein teaching a physics class at Lincoln University (HBCU in Pennsylvania) in 1946. The Nobel prize winning scientist said: "The separation of the races is not a disease of colored people. It is a disease of white people. I do not intend to be quiet about it." Shortly before moving to America, Einstein backed a campaign to defend the Scottsboro Boys, nine Alabama teenagers who were falsely accused of rape in 1931. When Princeton's Nassau Inn refused to rent a room to contralto opera star Marian Anderson because of her skin color, Einstein invited the singer home as his guest. Their friendship lasted from 1937 until his death in 1955, and Anderson stayed with the Einsteins whenever she visited Princeton. In 1946, Einstein gave a rare speech at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, a historically black university, where he also accepted an honorary degree. The appearance was significant because Einstein made a habit of turning down all requests to speak at universities. During his speech, he called racism "a disease of white people." Einstein was a friend and supporter of African-American actor and singer Paul Robeson, who was blacklisted because of his civil rights work. The pair worked together in 1946 on an anti-lynching petition campaign. In 1952, when Robeson's career had bottomed out because of the blacklisting, Einstein invited Robeson to Princeton as a rebuke to the performer's public castigation. For decades, Einstein offered public encouragement to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and its founder, W. E. B. Du Bois. And in 1951, when the federal government indicted the 83-year-old Du Bois as a "foreign agent," Einstein offered to appear as a character witness during the trial. The potential publicity convinced the judge to drop the case. According to this vernim..his ancestors, who were RAPING - ENSLAVING - LYNCHING - BRANDING -MUTILATING - PROFITEERING etc.. had NO IDEA what was going on during the Civil War..๐Ÿ˜’ The complete apathy, denial and boldface lies. Matt Patrick was diagnosed with cancer last year. I feel as much pity for him as he has for the victims of his savage ancestors. ZERO. May he rot in pieces๐Ÿ’€ Their discussion regards: Two days ago a New Orleans civic board decided after over 100 yrs, the 4 confederate momunents dedicated to white raping enslaving scum should go. Care to guess what happened? Rabid whites actually BLEW UP ..yes BOMBED cars of contractors hired to remove these monuments and made serious death threats.. Somehow this whiteterrorism never made the news๐Ÿ˜’. So another anonymous contractor was hired who's employees had to wear MASKS while dismantling (for fear of being identified and killed by these savages) They actually had to work to dismantle at 4am accompanied by Armed police snipers to protect them..๐Ÿ˜’ Some cretins actually showed up shouting and making threats screaming about their "states rights" being violated. 3 more statues are slated to be removed in the near future as well. Imagine reaction if Germans had erected a statue of Hitler and SS Leaders in a town with a heavy JEWISH population..It would have been taken down centuries ago..NO QUESTION!! Time to evolve white amerikkka!! ------ regrann
