Apparently, Candy, and Children: @PENCILEDCELEBRITIES OPENCILEDCELEBRITIES @PENCILEDCELEBRITIES IF YOU TELL ANYON RAY dykedottir: layingdownsomebatfeets: cumbler-tumbler: layingdownsomebatfeets: cumbler-tumbler: alwaysbewoke: jesussaysno: I don’t get the man one ? the entire series is focused on stopping all abuse the man here has his mouth covered up by a woman wearing a wedding ring. meaning he is being abused by his wife. of the men i’ve known and spoken to about being abused by their wives, one of the common ways wives will try to “make up” for the abuse is literally with money. fucking crazy sad shit but women who abuse their men (bf or husband) also believe us to be super materialistic and so they can just buy us. i could go on but i don’t want to. it’s too fucking gross. this is clearly pedophila in the catholic church. a profoundly evil act that is is primarily aimed at little boys. this is child molestation in the black community that tarted little black girls overwhelmingly. usually by a family member and usually a male family member with candy being used to buy their silence. and this is an abused wife. the hand is male wearing a wedding ring. similar to the wife abusing the husband, an attempt to buy silence happens with flowers, candy and jewelry being the common gifts. i respect that this artist (a woman i believe) covered such a wild range of abuse even the ones we don’t talk about. I think that’s a dripping anatomical heart in the flower, too. :( Still don’t get the man one tbh. Is there an epidemic of rich women beating their husbands? I honestly don’t know. I am not familiar with the phenomenon, but knowing that male-on-female domestic violence vastly outweighs the reverse, I had to assume that it was included because otherwise she would have caught hell for it. I mean, apparently it does happen, so… Male violence against women and children is at actual epidemic levels. I know a few men who have suffered violence at the hands of female partners and it’s awful and unacceptable. But they were also all in a position to 1) leave and easily survive and/or 2) if they hit back would very much be able to stop the attack. As in if they hit back the woman would be ko’d. I’m not saying female on male violence is ok I’m saying it isn’t a ‘thing’ in the way the others are. Agreed. Men have the means to leave abusive relationships much quicker than most abused women do (if ever). When the pass-off “that’s white people shit” is just used for one-off innocuous jokes about real trivial shit, that’s fine, but you also see it being used for big-time psychological shit like this too.

And I know no one wanted to make the world be this way for black girls or guys, but it’s definitely a deep-seated issue in the community. White people didn’t make this happen alone, the stigmas against mental health in racial communities held by poc also are a huge factor in helping to cause this. And then people wonder why mental health issues aren’t taken seriously in poc communities.

But how can anyone take an issue seriously when no one wants to address it responsibly? Or see it as the non-racial occurrence it is - mental health issues happen to everyone, race has nothing to do with it. Stop racializing mental health issues. A lot of poc blame mental health stigma on white people, but you can’t, you can’t blame others for what is perpetuated in someone’s own community by someone’s own community members.

So that’s why everyone, everyone needs to step up for mental health.

This is so important. I love that Jada heard her out and didn’t start freaking out or alienating her. It also goes to show how mentally taxing fame at such a young age can be.

Black History Month, Church, and Girls:
Black history month artistic figures day five: Singer, pianist, and activist Nina Simone.

Nina Simone was born Eunice Kathleen Waymon in Tryon, North Carolina in 1933. She started playing piano when she was three years old and dreamed to one day become an a concert pianist. Her first official recital performance was it a classical recital when she was 12. Her parents, who had taken front row seats for the recital, were forced to move to the back due to segregation at the venue. When Simone found out about it, she refused to play until her parents were allowed to move back to the front. This event sparked her later activism.

With the help of scholarship money, Simone was able to attend Allen High School for Girls in Asheville, North Carolina. After her graduation she spent the summer of 1950 at the Juilliard School, as a student of Carl Friedberg, preparing for her addition at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. Despite a fantastic and well received audition, Simone was denied admission to the school. She suspected racial prejudice was to blame.

In order to make ends meet, Simone ended up taking a job as a resident pianist and singer at a bar. This is when she changed her name from Eunice Waymon to Nina Simone, in order to disguise her identity from her minister parents who did not approve of her playing “the devil’s music“ in bars and clubs. Her mixture of genres, including jazz, blues, and classical music in her performances at the bar earned her a small but loyal fan base.

Though she had always drawn on her African-American roots in her music, in the 60s and 70s Simone became very active in civil rights and anti-Vietnam causes. She wrote her now well known song “Mississippi Goddam” in response to racist attacks and murders, including the high profile Birmingham church bombing that killed for little black girls and partially blinded a fifth. She considered it her first civil rights anthem.

Later in life Simone moved Barbados and then France, where she lived out her days until passing of breast cancer in 2003. Her ashes were scattered in several African countries and she is survived by one daughter, an actress and singer who uses the stage name Simone.

Anaconda, Black Lives Matter, and Church: 54 years ago today, 4 little black girls in Birmingham, Alabama were killed whern the KKK bombed their church IN MEMORY OF ADBS MKS COLLINS CAROL ROBERTSON Instead of cracking down on the white terrorist cells, the FBI and CIA worked for decades to harass, prosecute, and murder civil rights leaders. Instead of police infiltrating and disrupting the white terrorist cells, the KKK infiltrated law enforcement THIS DAY IN HISTORY . Four black schoolgirls killed in Birmingham 💔 . On this day in 1963, a bomb explodes during Sunday morning services in the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, killing four young girls. . With its large African-American congregation, the 16th Street Baptist Church served as a meeting place for civil rights leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., who once called Birmingham a “symbol of hardcore resistance to integration.” Alabama’s governor, George Wallace, made preserving racial segregation one of the central goals of his administration, and Birmingham had one of the most violent and lawless chapters of the Ku Klux Klan. . The church bombing was the third in Birmingham in 11 days after a federal order came down to integrate Alabama’s school system. Fifteen sticks of dynamite were planted in the church basement, underneath what turned out to be the girls’ restroom. The bomb detonated at 10:19 a.m., killing Cynthia Wesley, Carole Robertson & Addie Mae Collins–all 14 years old–and 11-year-old Denise McNair. Immediately after the blast, church members wandered dazed & bloodied, covered with white powder and broken stained glass, before starting to dig in the rubble to search for survivors. More than 20 other members of the congregation were injured in the blast. . When thousands of angry black protesters assembled at the crime scene, Wallace sent hundreds of police and state troopers to the area to break up the crowd. Two young black men were killed that night, one by police and another by racist thugs. Meanwhile, public outrage over the bombing continued to grow, drawing international attention to Birmingham. At a funeral for three of the girls (one’s family preferred a separate, private service), King addressed more than 8,000 mourners. . A well-known Klan member, Robert Chambliss, was charged with murder : with buying 122 sticks of dynamite. In October 1963, Chambliss was cleared of the murder charge & received a six-month jail sentence & a $100 fine for the dynamite. Although a subsequent FBI investigation identified three other men. .
