Which is, in of itself, a meme on this site. God damn it. But this… This is something else. The rapidity of a meme’s introduction to its zenith to its decline is so rapid that in ten years, you’ll need a damn twenty-page manual to explain this. It’ll be as unfunny and hard to explain as jokes in Shakespeare plays, except even more inexplicable because fuck, at least Shakespeare’s jokes are usually about anal or fucking your mother, good wholesome sex jokes we can all get behind. For the love of fuck, how do you explain loss.jpg? How do you explain gun? ….I THOUGHT THIS WAS A YMCA REFERENCE it is a YMCA reference - that’s one of the 6 memes being represented here ok let me see if i can break this down easily. YMCA is the easiest place to start - the song itself has become a meme over time with people changing the lyrics to reference other pop cultural events. so YMCA is meme one (1) this first lyric replacement (”take the breadsticks and run”) is a reference to the tumblr meme ‘stuffing breadsticks into my purse’. i think everyone remembers that one so i wont bother to explain it. that’s meme two (2) “man door hand hook car door” is a meme of its own, a creepypasta from i dont remember when. it was a terrible stupid retelling of the generic ‘stuck in a car while hook handed man tries to kill us’ story so the stupid title caught on for memorability. that in and of itself is meme three (3) ‘gun’ is… yeah i dont know how to explain gun. long story short you add gun to the end of a phrase instead of what you expect the last word to be. its shock funny. its everywhere but its popular to add to “man door hand hook car door” for.. some reason? gun is meme four (4) and the thing is, this four meme combo is something thats gone around before. meme combos are, itself, a meme. which means taking this meme combo and mixing in another meme actually becomes meme five (5) which leaves us at loss.jpg. loss.jpg was a terrible bad comic supposed to be about some tragic event, but it was presented so poorly literally no one takes it seriously, and for some reason recreating the four-panel setup has become popular. so thats meme six (6) (but i need to add that this is the greatest version of loss.jpg i think i’ve ever seen. the initial ‘young man’ lines up with the guy bursting through the door, and the shock meme ‘gun’ matches the shock scene of the woman in the hospital and idk if OP even thought about that but it makes this just so much better) I wasn’t going to reblog this, but @pagesofkenna‘s comprehensive meme-by-meme annotation is a thing of beauty and should be shared. average tumblr post contains one meme, this post, which contains six, is an outlier and should not be counted it might also just be a coincidence due to loss.jpg’s format but the whole white minimalist four-panel setup is also suspiciously reminiscent of those early 2000’s rage comics I was getting a political compass vibe too tag urself im man door hand hook car gun This works better than I thought it would. This was in my senior project I’m not sorry. EIGHT MEME COMBO FATALITY We have officially created a new language  I just had to do it to em THIS FUCKING THREAD I’M GONNA CRY I LOST IT AND MAN DOOR HAND HOOK CAR GUN AND DIDN’T EXPECT MORE I’M SOBBING M E M E T E N OwO? That's why, when dogs are playing (especially noticeable in puppies, as they're still learning bite inhibition), and one dog yelps loudly and sharply, like a dog does if you step on its paw or tail, if you react by immediately jumping back, not doing the thing again, and giving friendly, appeasing gestures (nice petting, ear scratching, chin scratching, etc...or if you were another dog, submissive gestures, muzzle licking, things that say nono sorry! Im not a threat to you!") the dog does, in fact, realize that you weren't attacking or trying to be mean and that it was accidental That's also why advice to puppy owners or owners trying to retrain a dog that was never taught to not bite during play are advised to yelp like a hurt dog if their puppy/dog gets too rough and immediately stop play and turn away, because that's a clear signal to the dog that they hurt you and you're upset now Most dogs will immediately 'apologize' in dog language for that as, especially if it was during play, their intent wasn't to hurt anyone, just to have fun. They'lI also tend to react that way if you yelp if they step on you. 1 know I've yelped at Bear a few times because his big 105lb ass is HEAVY and does not feel nice on a foot. Woah the reverse tactic wow This is SO IMPORTANT 1 am so glad that there is a way 1 can communicate an apology to a doggo if I accidentally step on their paw...because the only alternative would be exiling myself to the arctic to escape my shame Can confirm this works btw, I used this info to train (ask) my dog to stop biting (she used to bite very hard with her very sharp teeth) (via clearbrightlight) How to apologize to a dog

God, Love, and Radio: disneyscreencaps.com batbrobeyond: jetgreguar: disneytrivia: In the scene in The Incredibles where Helen (Elastagirl) is flying the plane, her use of radio protocol is exceptionally accurate for a movie. The terminology used hints that she has had military flight training. In the director’s commentary Brad Bird says that actress Holly Hunter insisted on learning both the lingo and its meaning. “VFR on top” means she is flying in the regime of Visual Flight Rules ‘on top’ of a cloud cover. She requests “vectors to the initial”, or directions on how to get to the initial landing approach. “Angels 10” is her altitude call, ten thousand feet. This is a military term. Civilian flights use the term “flight level”. “Track east” is her direction of travel. “Buddy spike(d)” is a US military brevity code meaning “friendly anti-aircraft radar has locked on to me, (please don’t shoot)”. “Transmitting in the Blind Guard” is a call on the emergency frequency where 2-way communication has not been established. “Abort” is also a military brevity code, a directive meaning “stop the action/mission/attack”. god i love when actors/ voice actors are intent on using correct lingo for things like this its so easy to BS this sort of thing and sometimes it might work but it’s vastly more impressive when they actually use correct terminology  She also uses the handle “India Golf Niner-Niner” or, in the NATO Phonetic Alphabet, IG99. The Iron Giant (1999), also directed by Brad Bird.

Beer, Confidence, and Driving: 15 Dead Giveaways That Somebody Is American, As Told Bv Non-Americans. Friendly to the point that you become suspicious of their intent 1. Americans generally are more confident in the way they present themselves, most other countries tend to be more reserved. Walk into a room full of different nationalities, I guarantee the American person will be the first to introduce themselves. It's a confidence thing, and I admire it. 2. 3. When they use the imperial system. 4. Wearing sneakers with anything 5. Big smiles, firm handshakes Using big adjectives generously ("Wow, your aunt's kidney stones sound awesome!" or "This Euroshopper beer tastes great!") 6. Mostly it's the 'prepared for anything' look they have about them (fanny pack, backpack, bottled water, camera pouch) compared to various other tourists Asians tend to herd together for safety, while Europeans vary between blend-right-in Scandinavian to designer-brands-everywhere French and traffic-laws-are-for-others Italian. But Americans are the only ones who seem to view a perfectly civilized, modern city like some kind of uncharted jungle that doesn't have places to shelter in the rain or buy cheap bottled water. 7. 8. They say 'great' and are not being sarcastic. I can't even begin to imagine making a sentence where great actually means great. 9. Constant clapping Being surprised about the topless models on page 3. 10. Speaking as a former barman or "bartender" as American customers would say... tipping! No British person will ever tip a barman. I'll occasionally get bought a drink by drunk ladies or gents, but Brits actually giving me money for doing a job that I was already being paid for? Never happened. I would listen for American accents (which were easy to hear due to their natural loudness) and immediately serve them next. 11. Americans describe distances in driving time, as opposed to miles or kilometers. 12. The dead giveaway is when they call you "honey" or "sweetie" or "darling". 13. 14. North face jackets. Everywhere. Incredibly loud but incredibly friendly Very often you can hear them before you see them 15. srsfunny:We Do Love Americans

Kirby and Simon faced considerable resistance for their creation, including steady hate mail and outright death threats.   Once, while Jack was in the Timely office, a call came from someone in the lobby. When Kirby answered, the caller threatened Jack with bodily harm if he showed his face. Kirby told the caller he would be right down, but by the time Jack reached street level, there was no one to be found. Both creators enlisted after America entered the war.  Kirby, as an artist, was called upon to do the extremely dangerous work of scouting ahead to draw maps.  He also went on to co-create Black Panther in 1966. The subject of where the Vibranium for the shield came from actually never came up for decades of comics, until it was finally addressed by Black Panther’s writer, Christopher Priest, in 2001.  Priest never shied away from acknowledging America’s racism, but he also understood that Captain America represented an ideal, intended to inspire Americans to be better.  The story mixed together a “present day” discussion between Cap and T’Challa with flashbacks to when Cap met the Black Panther ruling Wakanda during World War II. 9/11, Africa, and Being Alone: now you kno! And now I’m mad that nobody told us we were given cows. Cause that’s really f*cking nice and nobody mentioned it at all. American media tends to disregard that anyone donates to the US. And then Amurricans complain about money going abroad because “nobody helped the US in our disasters.” . Also, do you know how much a cow costs? O.O It isn’t just a matter of how much a cow costs, its a matter of considering that Masai life is based around their cattle. Its their wealth, their food, and a significant part of their religion. Here’s a quote from Wikipedia: “Traditional Maasai lifestyle centres around their cattle which constitute their primary source of food. The measure of a man’s wealth is in terms of cattle and children. A herd of 50 cattle is respectable, and the more children the better. A man who has plenty of one but not the other is considered to be poor.[37] A Maasai religious belief relates that God gave them all the cattle on earth, leading to the belief that rustling cattle from other tribes is a matter of taking back what is rightfully theirs, a practice that has become much less common.[38]” So its not just “they gave us 14 cows”, its that they gave us something that is very important and significant to them, it is more than just a kind gesture that definitely deserves to be known and its a genuine shame that more people don’t know about it. Wait, you guys DON’T KNOW that we offer help to the US when you have disasters??????? Shit, down here in Brazil we not only offered to send tracking units and doctors to help in 9/11 but we wanted to send a whole lot of donations to help with Katrina (we have experience with floods down here so we knew what kind of medicine to send to prevent outbreaks).  We alone had like 2 army airplanes full of medicine and non-perishables like baby formula, diapers, bottled water, mosquito nets and other stuff that’s needed to fight opportunistic diseases that hit flooded areas, enough to assist a good few thousand people at least, ready to go the day after it hit, but your government refused the donations.  The same thing happened to the Canadians and Europeans who offered help, the US embassies around the world told us all to give money to Red Cross. And so we did, we all gave hundreds of millions of dollars to them, and then this happened: Red Cross scandals tarnish relief efforts ‘Breathtaking’ Waste and Fraud in Hurricane Aid So please, don’t you go spreading misinformation and prejudice against the rest of the world, WE DID OFFER HELP AND ORGANIZED IT EVEN FASTER THAN BUSH DID, BUT Y’ALL REFUSED IT.  Oh wow I had no idea this happened it’s really not talked about in media at all wow this is something good to know about wow I’m so angry. I didn’t know that other countries tried to help after 9/11 or Katrina. Like, that’s something we, the people, should hear about and we don’t. Please don’t blame us for the shitty decisions our government makes. We don’t have as much control over our government as we would like to think and they keep a lot from us. Spread this shit.  After Katrina, Cuba donated several hundred blankets. Think about that. A country that is suffering economically due directly to the US embargo offered to help us when we needed it by sending what they could. And once again, it was refused. We have a government that is so self-righteous that we refuse to accept disaster aid in order to maintain this facade that we are the most generous nation on earth. Okay, Katrina thing.Only Texans really knows this? and even then it’s not wide spread.Mexico sent their army. They sent their army for relief efforts. Didn’t call ahead, they drove all the way to San Antonio with doctors and food and all sorts of supplies. When people actually got a call from them saying “Hey, we’re sending people up.”The people who answered said “What? We can’t…”“Too late, already there.”This was while the government was turning down help.So yeah, other countries send relief.Forest fires up in Washington last year? Firefighters from Australia came up to assist.Like… we don’t hear about this shit. At all. I can second the above with the fires.  Most the time, when people say “oh FEMA or something sent people right?” re: fires, its actually people from other countries showing up and kinda ignoring the government telling them to fuck off and staying on behalf of local departments because we REALLY need them.  If there’s a huge ass disaster, and the government is sitting there with a thumb up it’s ass, help is offered and most the time– shit, it gets there! But then the feds do something really fucking dirty. They insist they were the help, if it’s talked about at all.  They insist those people putting out fires were federal people, because to most people a fireman’s a fireman. The people handing out water and food, a relief worker is a relief worker. So on and so forth.  We had people come up when the fires were so bad a while ago– not the Australians, but i think there was like a German group of like 3 guys that flew themselves over? They came out of sheer “this is horrible and we’re helping” and my dad [local fire chief] had them working with our guys and the feds lost no time telling every news outlet that it was THEIR people doing all the fire knockdowns and structure work when these guys were running into buildings and grabbing people, pets, and people’s important documents because they knew papers were a pain in the ass to replace.  What you gotta understand is that our government is very intent on selling us and the rest of the world [as much as possible] the idea of a powerful and self reliant country. All our reporting on disasters, starts with the scaremongering and then moves to “but our people can handle it because we’re the best at handling things” and then they move on before the idea it’s out of control comes to mind. The average person outside of the disaster has no idea, if they have never been around such an event or met someone who regularly deals with these things, they will kinda probably nod along with that. Because we have no real scope on the scale and impact– by design. Our media intake is very controlled to slant everything to the “eh, we can handle it and everyone else out there– they need our help because they’re not so good at handling disasters like we are.”People who know better, reading international news, interacting with international social groups, looking outside their sphere of community– we know better but that kinda slant is really hard to break from because of that grip American media has on information. So, taking that knowledge, we further have restricted reporting on certain disasters because they’re considered unimportant. Hurricanes are considered important, earthquakes are only considered important if it wrecks something the government cares about or somewhere a couple million people live that they’ll upset the national money flow/they can throw money at someone to make the news care, floods are only important if it’s in a similar manner to earthquakes but since they occur annually they’re rarely reported on nationally, mudslides that kill people or leave hundreds homeless aren’t important to the government even through they happen constantly, wildfires that consume most of the nation/continent each year generally are unimportant until they consume a town or threaten a government interest/money flow location. Terrorist attacks are always important because people will talk about them. So, when we do get help for any of the above, it’s possible that most people may have no idea about what’s happened, let alone that help’s been sent. Or if people know something happened, the details are vague– the news don’t care to give the nitty gritty. You’ll know something happened and people are suffering and “gee, isn’t it good you’re not them” and then now the weather. So, yeah, basically no one really knows we get help. International response to Hurricane Katrina: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_Hurricane_Katrina  We got HELLA help, but nobody really talks about it American Media really fails regularly  Hurricane Sandy, Quebec sends power line crews down to assist in restoring power.  California gets rid of water bombers due to budget cuts, Canada sends theirs down to help fight wild fires. Amazing what living on the border and having outside TV News does to your information flow. After Katrina, Denmark offered to donate water purification units so people wouldn’t get sick from drinking contaminated water, but the offer was declined. A private Danish company built a mobile satellite phone booth and drove it around the poor neighbourhoods in Mississippi and Louisiana so people could call their families and insurance companies for free (apparently there was a deadline for reporting damages but people couldn’t call in because their mobile phones were dead and landlines were down). American propaganda is not a thing of the past, nor is it a new thing. It has been around forever, telling stories of exceptionalism and self-reliance while our government tries its hardest to refuse the help of others and offer its own to them, to try and force other nations onto their back foot and remain aggressively benevolent in international matters, so that it can lord that shit over them in negotiations and the media in general.I guarantee you America would have a less jingoistic, less xenophobic populace overall if this sort of information were actually reported to us. If we weren’t always fed the lie of helping the world without any gratitude or help in return. If the media didn’t present us as world police and instead as a part of the community, as other countries try hard to include us as, then maybe Americans would actually act like they’re part of a fucking community. But global citizens are hard to monger fear and distrust and xenophobia and nationalism with. They’re hard to control with propaganda and hate. They’re hard to keep ignorant and docile and saying “this is fine” while the empire burns.A lot of Americans wonder why our country is seen as a worldwide bully. Shit like that, my friends. Shit like that. Its hubris is seemingly limitless. C O M M E N T A R Y FYI: They left out the part where America’s rudeness kicked in and turned down the offer of the cows. The US government is really tryna kill its people. Someone offered water purification units and they were like “nah,” let those tricks get sick. @hutchj how about the U.S. passed a law recently making CBD, the non-psychoactive derivative of cannabis, illegal as a Schedule A drug, EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN PROVEN TO REDUCE EPILEPTIC SEIZURES IN CHILDREN TO ZERO among a dozen other ailments having been reduced to nominal levels allowing ppl to function normally (ADHD, chronic pain, IBS, menstrual cramps, Alzheimer’s, etc). Doctors around the country (that Big Pharma can’t buy off) are fighting back for their patients’ well-being. 😡

Beer, Confidence, and Driving: Friendly to the point that you become suspicious of their intent. 1. Americans generally are more confident in the way they present themselves, most other countries tend to be more reserved. Walk into a room full of different nationalities, l guarantee the American person will be the first to introduce themselves. Mostly it's the 'prepared for anything' look they have about them (fanny pack, backpack bottled water, camera pouch) compared to various other tourists Asians tend to herd together for safety, while Europeans vary between blend-right-in Scandinavian to designer-brands-everywhere French and traffic-laws-are-for-others Italian. But Americans are the only ones who seem to view a perfectly civilized, modern city like some kind of uncharted jungle that doesn't have places to shelter in the rain or buy cheap bottled water. 7. They say 'great' and are not being sarcastic. I can't even begin to imagine making a sentence where great actually means great. 8. 9. Constant clapping. Being surprised about the topless models on page 3. 10. Speaking as a former barman or "bartender" as American customers would say... tipping! No British person will ever tip a barman. l'll occasionally get bought a drink by drunk ladies or gents, but Brits actually giving me money for doing a job that I was already being paid for? Never happened. I would listen for American accents (which were easy to hear due to their natural loudness) and immediately serve them next. 11. Americans describe distances in driving time, as opposed to miles or kilometers. 12. The dead giveaway is when they call you "honey" or "sweetie" or "darling" 13. 14. North face jackets. Everywhere. Incredibly loud but incredibly friendly. Very often you can hear them before you see them 15. strixus: acavatica: fairkid-forever: kkatkkrap: dfwm: mymindsecho: pr1nceshawn: Giveaways that someone is American, as told by non-Americans. You got nothing. And if you don’t like it, tough titties. I love you, Cards Against Humanity” I was one of the 100 to get the check from these folks, and holy shit I was CACKLING at the hurt people on Facebook. Some people only cared about their precious $15 when it helped the poor. Congrats! I’m thrilled that some of my $$$ went to people who needed it.  This is actually kinda sketchy. If they had more than 17,000 people participate, they start turning a profit (you need around 7,000 “donators” to give 100 people $1,000USD, and then 10,000 people to get their $15USD refund). They got 150,000 people to donate. That means they made around 2 million dollars USD in profit. Since they are NOT a charity organization, they have no responsibility to inform the public of what they’re spending that money on, and how much gets fed into pockets of their own bigwigs.  I repeat, this is a mega, MEGA sketchy scheme that relies on the good-will of others and their own branding as a quirky company to possibly turn a massive profit, and it gave them free advertising through social media and news media. I’m glad some of it went to people who needed it; but the fact that around 4% of the proceeds went into those checks went to the donations/gifts, and a total of 11% was either returned or gifted. 89% of it went into CAH’s pockets should be a significant wake-up call as to the real intent behind this.  Lmao way to get capitalized on Socialists getting fooled by fake wokers TBH it’s not a good idea to give money to companies that haven’t been rated by Charity Navigator. CAH is stealing, using #wokeness as a shield, and the gullible are falling for it. You’re all fucking dumbasses. Nobody “donated” to CAH for this promotion you fuckwads, people paid $15 to be a part of it and get whatever surprises they threw at customers. The amount of people in the notes who have no fucking idea about what this promotion was or how it was marketed acting like CAH is some false charity is fucking astonishing ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Seriously the amount of people on this post fundamentally misunderstanding the whole concept of the CAH holiday event and thinking I and the other people who bought it got duped is ridiculous.  We didn’t donate the money, you dopes. We bought a product that we knew would would make us laugh our assess off and CAH delivered while also doing some nice stuff for other people.  Fuckin’ hell.  Also, THIS isn’t the only part of the holiday event. Everyone’s $15 also paid for: Day 1: they bought a piece of land along the border and hired a public domain lawyer, just to slow down Trumps wall. Day 2: the good news podcast, production, and all of the stickers/posters for it Day 3: the Wealth Distribution Day 4: they paid for a shit ton of Donor’s Choose projects for teachers. Day 5: they ran “pulse of the nation ” polling. So of course not ALL the money went towards JUST day 3. That was never the plan?!

Alive, Anaconda, and Clothes: Sweater curse From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The "sweater curse" or "curse of the love sweater" is a term used by knitters to describe the belief that if a knitter gives a hand-knit sweater to a significant other, it will lead to the recipient breaking up with the knitter [11 In an alternative formulation, the relationship will end before the sweater is even completed.2 The belief is widely discussed in knitting publications, and some knitters claim to have experienced it.[31415] In a 2005 poll, 15% of active knitters said that they had experienced the sweater curse firsthand, and 41% considered it a possibility that should be taken seriously I6 Despite its name, the "sweater curse" is treated in knitting literature not as a superstition governed by paranormal forces, but rather as a real- world pitfall of knitting that has rational explanations. 3I7 Several plausible mechanisms for the sweater curse have been proposed, but it has not been studied systematically. 5 eartheld: elodieunderglass: alittlemothboy: that is some next level knot magic.  it isn’t though!!! it’s because most relationships aren’t worth the effort. The “sweater curse” is actually most commonly called the “BOYFRIEND sweater curse.” Which=heteronormative, but the curse most often falls on a woman knitting a sweater for a boyfriend. Before she finishes the sweater, they break up - pop culture would have you believe it’s because the boyfriend freaks out do to the weirdness/clinginess of having a sweater made for you, but I think knitters are wiser than that. It’s because after spending serious £££ on materials, and then HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF LABOR on the creation of the item, with every stitch a prayer of totally focused intent, creating a large display of technical skill - it is then gifted to a non-knitter who does NOT APPRECIATE the work/effort/skill/cost/TIME it took to make it, and in fact thinks you’re a bit weird and making a big deal out of a piece of clothing, and after they go “oh thanks” and shove your creation in the cupboard next to a sweater they got for £15 at an MS sale, then they never wear your sweater because it’s too tight because when you asked them how their favorite sweaters usually fit they said “I ‘unno” and when you measured them for the fifth time and asked, rather tersely, if they had enough room in the chest, they said “I guess,” and then if pressed they say they don’t really like the sweater design, but then you point out that they were supposed to participate in helping you design it and they say they don’t really care about how things look, and when you say that you tried to match it to their other clothes so how can they hate it, then they say that honestly their mother still buys all their clothes because they hate going shopping, and that they hate all their other clothes too, well. That’s when a sensible knitter goes “Fuck this shit. And you know what? Fuck this man.” This is what happens when someone posts in a knitting forum “Attack of the sweater curse!” - this is the usual story. It has a rigid plot. It is as old as myth. That’s when you look at the time you spent and realize, “I could LITERALLY have written the first draft of a novel instead of doing this.” That’s when you go “I could have taken that £200 and bought myself a new wardrobe.” That’s when you go “I could have taken all that intent, all that willpower, all that creative force, and laid down some fucking witchcraft, all right?” That’s when you go “I basically spent 100 hours straight thinking about this bastard while making something amazing for him, and I have no evidence that he ever spent 10 hours of his life thinking about me.” And “I could spend this time and energy and money in making myself an enormous, intricate heirloom silk shawl with just a touch of cashmere, in elvish twists and leafy lace in all the colors of the night, shot through with subtly glittering stars, warm in winter and cool and summer and light as a lover’s kiss on the shoulders, suitable for draping over my arms at weddings or wrapping myself in to watch the sea, a lace-knotted promise to myself that I will keep for my entire life and gift to my favorite granddaughter when I die, and she will wear it to keep alive my memory - but instead I have this sweater, and this fuckboy.” The sweater curse is a lesson that the universe gives to a knitter at an important point in their life. It is a gift. Knitting a sweater for a husband or wife generally doesn’t call down the curse, because the relationship is meant to be stronger than 4-ply. (Although I say this, but I’ve taken over 5 years to finish a pair of mittens for my husband, because he casually asked me to do something customized with the cables, and I still can’t get the math to work on the right hand.) this post is so much better with that commentary

Asian, Bad, and Baseball: OLD NAWY Josh Clark Something has been weighing pretty heavily on me the past few days. I have had a few small discussions on the issue, but haven't gotten too far into it. I wanted to share this, not for attention, but because I thought it needed to be done It's no big secret to my friends that I love to hunt, fish, camp and do pretty much anything outdoors. I have always considered myself to be a country boy stuck in the city. One of the ways that I used to show pride for my lifestyle was wearing t-shirts with the Confederatel Rebel flag on them. In high school, I even had a bumper sticker on my truck that read "Keep It Flying". I had grown up seeing the flag regularly, and although I had seen it used in negative ways on occasion, I chose to accept the "Heritage not Hate" and "Pride not Prejudice" interpretation of the flag. If you had asked me back then, I would've told you that it was a symbol of southern pride and had nothing to do with racism I was raised pretty close to downtown Nashville and grew up with kids of all races with all kinds of backgrounds. I played baseball, basketball and football on teams where sometimes whites were minorities. I am very thankful for this. As I continue to grow and learn, I realize that we tend to fear things just because we don't understand them Because of where and how I was raised, background. I was able to realize that we are all the same underneath. I have had white friends, black friends, Asian friends, Middle Eastern friends, Latino friends, Christian friends, Muslim friends, Atheist friends, etc. Thankfully, I have never had a racist bone in my body I never feared people of other color or It wasn't until well into my college years when I began to start thinking for myself. I no longer let the people I was raised by tell me how to view every issue and tried my best to be more open-minded. I believe that one of the most important things for us to do as humans is to try putting ourselves in others' shoes before we make any kind of judgement. Although I never meant anything racist by sporting the Confederate flag, I couldn't help but think of what some of my black friends thought about it. I really can't think of a time that I was confronted about it. Did it not offend them? Were they too nice or afraid to confront me about it? The more I researched about the history of the flag, the worse I felt. What I had been told about its history was wrong. Thousands of southerners still fly the flag with no racist intent. They still defend the good things they've been told about the flag. They, like I once was, are WRONG. The flag is a symbol of a way of life that was wrong. Not that it needs to be stated, but slavery is one of the most evil and cruel things this world has ever seen. The Confederate flag represents this evil. Where is the pride in that? The Confederate flag is also a sign of division. How can you truly be a patriot of this country and fly this flag? Do we really need to fly a flag to show that we are southern, or that we like to hunt and fish, especially when it's offensive to so many? It is not a kind thing, a good thing, or the right thing to do To those against removing the flag, I do not think you are a bad person. I know what it once meant to me. I do, however, challenge you to do your research. Step outside of what your family taught you and be open-minded. Even if you believe in a different history lesson, is flying a flag worth the pain it causes others? Please try to view these issues from the other side of the argument. To those I may have offended in the past, who never confronted me, I apologize. I was WRONG As our country continues to move forward on equality issues, I believe the only place for the Confederate flag is in our history books mysharona1987: This is great.

Asian, Bad, and Clothes: lein-wahliik: appropriately-inappropriate: someoneintheshadow446: rainbownova: otakusapien: shrineart: joyfulldreams: senpaibowie: etirabys: skull-bearer: lolatsjw: ifonlyfor: nouveau-brut: humansofnewyork: “Two other people took my picture before you, so I was already popular.” I know that some people said in the comments that this outfit was culturally appropriative, but just remember that you don’t know that someone isn’t a POC or biracial just by looking at them. Don’t assume other people’s races.  ^ My immediate reaction was to be upset by this photo because, I’m sorry, I’m just so fucking sick of people stealing Asian outfits and making them cool or trendy. But then I thought that maybe she’s a mixed kid. If not, there’s a problem here, though. Hi. I’m actually Japanese. Most of us LIKE when people find beauty in our culture. As long as nobody is disrespecting us or making a mockery of us, then there isn’t a problem, and if you think there is, then it seems that you are in favor of cultural segregation and that is causing more harm than good. When I was in Japan, there were a lot of places where you could get done up in a kimono or the male equivalent and have your picture taken. No one cares. Most Korean people I know are pretty delighted when foreigners wear hanbok, in a “oh, you are appreciating our culture! you look good in that” way. I have never actually heard or heard of people reacting negatively to non-Korean people wearing traditional Korean clothes, unless they were racist to begin with and would have objected to foreigners regardless of what they were wearing. ‘Appropriation’ is, I think, only appropriation when either it is done in a blatantly disrespectful way, or if the group whose clothes (etc) are being adopted is culturally marginalized to the degree where they themselves face discrimination when they wear those things. Korean people, afaik, don’t give a fuck. When foreigners visit and wear our clothes, it’s in good fun by people who are usually appreciative of the aesthetic qualities of what they’re donning, and also because we ourselves have never faced discrimination for our nationality or traditional dress. uhhh, basically, intent matters, context matters, people within the same community often have radically different ideas of what’s okay. But you know, I think the only Koreans I know who’d potentially care are the American-raised ones on liberal, activisty college campuses who are extremely well versed in the liberal, activisty language and rulebook. Thank you!! I also think it makes a difference in that the clothing is, you know, the actual thing and not some vaguely exotic knock-off like most people do with native american clothing. Like this is a legit, actual Kimono. There’s nothing really in the culture OF kimono that has rules about who wears this sort of thing when. Like…kimono literally means “thing you wear”. -shrug- Bolded some of the things that stood out the most to me. # it’s not like wearing inaccurate and sacred native american clothing or wearing a bindi or a burqa wear you’re doing it disrespectfully and the people of that group is marginalized and made fun of for those things and there is meaning behind them that people ignore or take for granted kimonos are jusr robes and there isn’t really a stigma about people who wear them  (gifs from here) When foreign women come to India we give them pottus and sarees and teach them how to wear them.  Please stop speaking for us, SJWs.  There is a huge difference between wearing an item known for its religious or social significance (for example–a Plains headdress), and wearing something that is just a general item of clothing (like kimono). If you’re wearing it to sexualize it (ie: “sexy kimono” in the fetish scene) or to mock its origin (ie: “sexy geisha Halloween costume!”), then that’s inappropriate. But wearing a kimono in good faith–say to a cherry blossom festival–isn’t in any way cultural appropriation, it’s cultural appreciation. Like, I’m Dominican, and when people want to buy Mascaras de Carnaval, or learn to dance merengue or bachata, it’s not a bad thing. person: hey I find this culture interesting and I would like to learn more about it rather than impose my own culture on them.SJWs: how dare you.
