Books, Children, and Dating: kamorth: nerdygirlnoodles: Okay, but seriously on the topic of straight people being so overly concerned about their children being exposed to homosexuality As some of you know, I am a makeup artist in a holistic beauty boutique in a very wealthy area of eastern New York. The week before Halloween I was offering simple costume makeup designs for both adults and children. So my last client of the evening was a 15 year old girl who came in to get her makeup done for the Halloween dance at her school. I was enjoying a conversation with both the girl and her mother when suddenly the topic of transgender came up. I got a little nervous because I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut when I hear people speaking negatively about these sorts of topics and as I mentioned, my store is in a very upscale, white conservative area Anyway, the girl starts telling us that her friend prefers to be a boy now. She says it very simply and comfortably and it made me happy to see her talk about it as if it was really no big deal Her mother says How does she even know what transgender is though? She's a little young to be making a decision like that. I really think the media is taking things too far with all this gay stuff. I'm not against it or anything, but didn't you just tell me two boys in your class are dating too? The girl said that yes, two boys she knew were dating and another boy she knew was gay also. (And she also corrected the pronouns her mother used for her friend) nl don't mind that she knows that homosexuality is," the mother said But I don't think it should be taught at such a young age. Did you know it's on Disney channel now? It took me a moment to respond, I just kept painting the girl's face until I could figure out what I wanted to say, Well," I said. "We tend to teach heterosexuality literally from the time a child is born. Most children's books and movies are even centered around a romance of some kind like a Prince and a Princess for example. There's rarely a children's movie that comes out where the main male and female character don't end up marrying each other in the end. If we don't have a problem flooding our children's minds with heterosexuality from the time they are able to sit up and watch a movie on their own, what is so wrong with showing them two boys or two girls being in love? We aren't showing them sex. We aren't showing them anything inappropriate. Since when is love inappropriate? If we show them love in all it's forms (be it gay or straight) from an early age, they will see that it's all perfectly normal and natural and maybe we can finally put homophobic the past.." The woman considered this for a second and then said "I just feel like they see it and then they start to think that they might be too And maybe they are. But isn't it better for them to know that it's okay? They aren't hurting anyone." Then the girl said. "No ones going around just thinking they are gay because they know what gay is, mom. I know what a chicken is, that doesn't mean I'm going to wake up tomorrow and start clucking." I loved this kid. I hope she does well in all of her endeavors I'm not going to wake up tomorrow and start clucking Teach them well and let them lead the way.

Teach them well and let them lead the way.

America, Children, and Dude: Callie Little Follow Imagine a United States where kids were given fucking food because they're kids. Imagine a United States where a five year old didn't have to step the fuck up and set the bar. By Elizabeth Licata The Daily Meal OCTOBER 17, 2017, 8:10 PM five-year-old girl from Michigan warmed the Internet's collective heart this week when she emptied out her own piggy bank to try to buy milk for a friend who couldn't afford it. Now her story has touched so many people that her whole class will have milk for at least a year. 7.58 A1 Oct 701T retiredvoldemort: thegeektastichedgehog: a-furious-heart: theinevitablestorm: mysharona1987: I mean, great little girl and all. But people understand this is not really a heartwarming story, right? THIS 5 YEAR OLD HAD TO DO WHAT? This is fucking UNTHINKABLE in Scotland. Every child under the age of 8 is entitled to a free school meal, and milk cartons cost about 12p otherwise. In Sweden we get free food until we graduate at the age of 18/19 AND school is completely free, nothing has t be payed for. In America we routinely let children starve but I guess it’s an improvement in the cannibalism in jamestown Dude for the majority of my time in school I couldn’t afford lunch most days. When this happens in elementary and middle school you have to ask the lunch lady for a ‘free meal’ which is just a carton of milk and a sandwich’ (it’s literally two pieces of white bread with one Kraft single between them, sometimes the bread was moldy too but that’s just a normal American public school problem) I usually just decided to go without food instead At my school (secondary school in South England), we pay for our lunch, but if you cant afford it you can get free lunches because, you know, people need food to function and shit.

Hey Starbucks, as the unicorn frappuccino was so popular, thought I'd pitch a few suggestions for fraps based on other mythical creatures: Dragon frappuccino: Made with dragonfruit, cinnamon, and fiery hot chiles. A shameless ploy to acquire gold. Werewolf frappuccino: Seems like a normal chocolate frap (werewolves love chocolate) but the caffeine doesn't kick in until the next full moon. And boy howdy, does it kick in. Mermaid frappuccino: Extra foam and sea salt caramel drizzle. Comes with a free Danish in honor of Hans Christian Anderson. Countdown, Drinking, and Drunk: www.unbelievable-facts.tumblr.com Keanu Reeves gave away almost all of his earnings from the Matrix (~£50 million) to the special effects team, turning them all into millionaires. "Money is the last thing l think about. I could live on what I have already made for the next few centuries"-he declared. paintedcowboy: walkingoutintherain: missshirley: music-in-the-bell-jar: 50shadesofyodaddysdick: holdtightclothing: longquark: putmeincoach: jehovahhthickness: airspaniel: utf2005: fluffy-overlord: bitchwhoyoukiddin: drst: unbelievable-facts: Man of the moment Keanu Reeves has shown his generosity by giving away £50 million of his earnings from the Matrix sequels. The 38-year-old decided to hand over the money to the unsung heroes of the sci-fi blockbusters - the costume and special effects teams. *fistbump* Confirmed.  He’s also dumped millions into cancer research.  I really do love Keanu Reeves a lot. Keanu Reeves is like the nicest person. He still lives in an apartment/flat and he gives most of his money away to charities and people who need it. He even invites some paparazzi people to sit down and eat with him when he’s at a coffee shop or restaurant. He’s such a nice person. When I was working on the UWS, one of my delivery guys accidentally backed his scooter into a parked car in front of the restaurant. I went out to help, since the driver didn’t speak much English, and it turned out the car belonged to Keanu Reeves. He helped us pick the scooter up, and when I asked if we could exchange insurance information (because the front of the car was pretty banged up), he kept telling us not to worry about it and put his hand on the driver’s shoulder and said “I just want to make sure you’re okay, man. Are you okay?” And he was so sincere about it and so kind that I decided in that moment I would always defend Keanu Reeves at all costs. He is an excellent man. I need to be more like Keanu Reeves because I’m evil compared to him. “Next few centuries” Keanu dropping hints that he is an immortal. i love keanu reeves My wife and I were dining at Nobu’s in Honolulu and sitting across from us was Keanu or at least I thought it was. We kept talking about whether it was him or not and finally, I decided to throw some old school Bill Ted at him. I stood up and threw my arms up into the motion of an air guitar, my wife is begging me to sit back down, and I pointed at the guy who may be Keanu Reeves, and said, “Most Excellent.” He stood up and did it back at me. Then we both had a moment and pointed at each other. I sent him another of whatever it was he was drinking. It was a cucumber sake martini. That was the end of it. Or so I thought. He left before we finished our meal. By the time we were done, dessert came that we didn’t order. We thought, “oh, must be compliments of the chef.” Then the bill never came. When we asked for it, our waitress said Keanu Reeves took care of it. IT WAS REALLY HIM. And he left a note. It said, “thanks for the refresh. Keanu.” When I finally saw him again years later, because of work. I brought it up. Then he air guitar and said, “most excellent. I remember. At Nobu’s. Thanks for the drink.” We chatted a bit and I got an autograph for my mum because she’s a huge Keanu fan. Then that was that. What a moment. An angel And he does a lot of anti human trafficking work iirc. Seems like a really awesome guy. Back when I first moved to NYC, I got a job as a theater usher. We were all young, 18-20 or so, and it was heavily impressed upon us that we needed to treat the theatergoers with TOTAL respect at ALL times or risk our jobs. As such, we were all totally underprepared for the drunk guy who tried to steal a bottle of wine from the lobby bar during intermission. We were trying to politely get the bottle back, but he was growing loud and belligerent. Since the second act was now starting, this was a countdown to all of us being in trouble.  Then Keanu walks up. Calmly charms the guy. Slips the usher behind the bar cash to cover the bottle, without the guy even noticing, and walks him back in to his seat like it’s a normal thing he does every day. He didn’t know the guy, didn’t know any of us, but effortlessly deescalated the situation and quite probably saved some jobs that night.  Just a wandering do-gooder, this man. #everything i’ve ever heard anecdotally about keanu reeves #further convinces me that he is the chillest immortal #like he’s probably just spent centuries donating blood instead of drinking it (via @revolutionarygirlshati) @curvethemoonshine

Being Alone, Crazy, and Facebook: A mother-of-two suffering from postpartum depression has posed for a powerful photoshoot featuring two vastly different parenting scenarios to show what it is really like to live with the mood disorder Kathy DiVincenzo with Paul DiVincenzo and Danielle Fantis May 2 at 7-27am- Chances are, you're feeling pretty uncomfortable right now (trust me I am too). I'm going to challenge you to push past the discomfort soclety has placed on postpartum mental illness and hear me out May has been declared Postpartum Depression Awareness Month and as someone with diagnosed postpartum depression, anxiety, and OCD I feel like it's time to show you what that can really look like, not just the side of me that's Facebook worthy The truth is, both of these pictures represent my life depending on the day. I would only ever comfortably share one of these realities though and that's the problem. The only thing more exhausting than having these conditions is pretending daily that I don't. I work twice as hard to hide this reality from you because I'm afraid to make you uncomfortable. I'm afraid you'll think I'm weak, crazy, a terrible mother, or the other million things my mind convinces me of and I know Im not alone in those thoughts. We need to stop assuming that the postpartum period is always euphoric, because for 1 in 7 it's not. We need to start asking new parents how they're doing in a deeper way than the normal, "so how are you doing? that triggers the knee jerk, "everything's greatl" response. We need to learn the signs, symptoms, risk factors, and support plans for postpartum conditions. We need to break the stigma and BEndTheSilence by sharing our stories and letting others know theyre not alone. If you have had a postpartum mood disorder please share your story below, or simply postto show you can relate. Let's show athers that they don't have to suffer in silence n case no one has told you, you're doing an amazing job. You are loved and you are worthy. You're nat alone. Information to local and national support will be in the comment section. I know how unbel ievably hard it is to reach out, but I promise you it is worth it. YOU'RE worth it Thank you to my close friend Danielle from Danielle Fantis Photography, a fellow mom that struggled with ppd, for capturing these images for me and encouraging me to share them with you. She encouraged other women who have dealt with postpartum depression to share their stories. Many did Lauren Fisher So very true and such a serious topic that needs to be out in the open more! I struggled with both postpartum depression and anxiety. I'm lucky to have a great support system of family, friends and doctors that helped me through it. I pray all those that experience it don't suffer in silence.
