This is the world’s largest flying Engine of Murder marveling at the fact that it can actually have its tummy rubbed.

I feel like this is the next step up on “loose your fingers” roulette from petting a kittie’s tummy, but just below belly rubs for say a lion.

Can someone who knows birds better than I do tell me whether this eagle is as happy as it looks?  Because I want it to be happy.  It looks so happy.  Bewildered by having a friend, but so happy.

Just popping on this thread to confirm: yes, the eagle is happy about the belly rubs. Golden eagles make this sound when receiving allopreening and similar affectionate and soothing treatment from their parents and mates. It’s the “I am safe and well fed, and somebody familiar is taking good care of me” sound. Angry raptors and wounded raptors make some pretty dramatic hisses and shrieks; frightened raptors go dead silent and try to hide if they can, or fluff up big and get loud and in-your-face if hiding isn’t an option. They can easily sever a finger or break the bones of a human hand or wrist, and even with a very thick leather falconer’s gauntlet, I’ve known falconers to leave a mews (hawk house) with graphic punctures THROUGH the gauntlet into the meat of their hands and arms, just from buteos and kestrels way smaller than this eagle. A pissed off hawk will make damn sure you don’t try twice whatever you pulled that pissed her off, even if she’s been human-imprinted.
If you’re ever unsure about an animal’s level of okayness with something that’s happening, there are three spot-check questions you can ask, to common-sense your way through it:
1. Is the animal capable of defending itself or making a threatening or fearful display, or otherwise giving protest, and if so, is it using this ability? (e.g. dog snarling or biting, swan hissing, horse kicking or biting) 2. Does the animal experience an incentive-based relationship with the human? (i.e. does the animal have a reason, in the animal’s frame of reference, for being near this human? e.g. dog sharing companionship / food / shelter, hawk receiving good quality abundant food and shelter and medical care from a falconer)
3. Is the animal a domesticated species, with at least a full century of consistent species cohabitation with humans? (Domesticated animals frequently are conditioned from birth or by selective breeding to be unbothered by human actions that upset their feral nearest relatives.)
In this situation, YES the eagle can self-defend, YES the eagle has incentive to cooperate with and trust the human handler, and NO the eagle is not a domesticated species, meaning we can expect a high level of reactivity to distress, compared to domestic animals: if the eagle was distressed, it would be pretty visible and apparent to the viewer. These aren’t a universally applicable metric, but they’re a good start for mammal and bird interactions.
Pair that with the knowledge that eagles reserve those chirps for calm environments, and you can be pretty secure and comfy in the knowledge that the big honkin’ birb is happy and cozy.
Also, to anybody wondering, falconers are almost single-handedly responsible for the recovery from near-extinction of several raptor species, including and especially peregrine falcons. Most hawks only live with the falconer for a year, and most of that year is spent getting the bird in ideal condition for survival and success as a wild breeding adult. Falconers are extensively trained and dedicated wildlife conservationists, pretty much by definition, especially in the continental USA, and they make up an unspeakably important part of the overall conservation of predatory bird species. Predatory birds are an important part of every ecosystem they inhabit. Just like apiarists and their bees, the relationship between falconer and hawk is one of great benefit to the animal and the ecosystem, in exchange for a huge amount of time, effort, expense, and education on the part of the human, for very little personal benefit to that one human. It’s definitely not exploitation of the bird, and most hawks working with falconers are hawks who absolutely would not have reached adulthood without human help: the sick, the injured, and the “runts” of the nest who don’t receive adequate resources from their own parents. These are, by and large, wonderful people who are in love with the natural world and putting a lifetime of knowledge and sheer exhausting work into conserving it and its winged wonders.

The Stock market, as well as the overall economy, moves between a boom and bust cycle - it basically moves between growth and value investing - it is that simple!
After a recession, when the whole stock market cycle, the business cycle and the credit cycle have gone bust:  interest rates are low to super low, the Fed is trying to stimulate the economy - Investors start to look at Growth Stocks/ Growth-Oriented Mutual Funds (a growth stock is one that generally averages about 20% growth per year along with the technology sectors like semiconductors and Biotech/Pharmaceuticals)….. Small Cap stocks/Mutual Funds also take off - money is cheap to borrow to fund R&D, marketing expenses, etc. 
But Value stocks/Mutual Funds also start to rise:  A RISING TIDE LIFTS ALL BOATS - was the 90′s moniker!
Hence, the market starts to take off:  as markets start to heat up and the economy starts to OVERHEAT - the Fed starts to raise interests to COOL the market down - like in November 1999 - the Fed had raised the Federal Funds rate way up to a whopping 6.5% to try and cool down the economy and to put a damper on the Dot.com Boom - fueled stock market!  
Those who forget history do not recall that the yield curve inverted in 1998; the Federal Funds rate was too high in 1999 (FYI side note:  the “average” technology mutual fund in 1999 was up 100%!!!!!!!!!!!! by years’ end)  Guess what?  The whole market crashed in April 2000!
So from that time to about mid-June 2000 - the market went nowhere!   Value investing and investing in Bonds (like Intermediate and Long-term Treasury Bonds (backed by the full faith of the US government) went up from June 2000 to December 2000 (Berkshire Hathaway A shares went up over 85% that year within 6 months!).  Warren Buffet?  Look him up!  Treasuries also did extremely well - like one “Talking Head” has been quoted as saying - “There is always a Bull Market somewhere”……
And the whole process starts over again from a boom to bust cycle, about every 10 years or so……the Real Estate Market moves in a boom to bust cycle about every 7 years….
MY OPINION – stay the course with Value-oriented Investing:  it works in both up and down markets!  A mix of Value Mutual Funds and Treasury Bond Mutual Funds weather ALL storms - OVER THE LONG HAUL - and yes, expect a few hiccups along the way too LOL!)….Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s) investing will work too - but, I like Mutual Funds - the minimums are $3,000.00 however (at least) to start investing in a SINGLE fund.  DO YOUR RESEARCH/DUE DILIGENCE ON THE WEB and also on YOU TUBE!
Guys - the overall stock market climbs in a stair-step fashion:  up, then sideways/down and then up again!  Invest for the long term (like 30-50+ years)….YOU WILL BE A WINNER!  Be it an investment account or a retirement account or BOTH:  like a personal investment account and a ROTH IRA or an employer-sponsored 401k Plan along with a personal investment account.
Dollar-Cost Average your contributions to personal investment/ROTH accounts; that is invest the same $ amount each and every month - regardless, whether the market is up or down!  Ignore the noise!  Ignore the Talking Heads”.
CURRENT MARKET :  MY OPINION
Me personally, I am accumulating cash and letting my current investment portfolio just ride along with this geo-politically fueled/baseless rate cut economic environment …Impeachment talks, China Trade War escalation, Iran concerns, Saudi Arabia bombings, Japan-South Korea tensions as well as renewed North Korea tension over prior failed talks, the American Farmers plight due to the trade war, negative return/yield rates on European Bonds, Brexit concerns, a dollar that is too strong, etc.
When American companies start to cut back, lay people off, these people can not keep spending to keep GDP/the economy growing, then these people can not pay their mortgages/auto loans/credit cards….Will it be “somewhat” similar to 2008… all over again? 
I have no professional opinion nor do I have a crystal ball – Maybe the FED will engineer a “SOFT” Landing”…..this time: they never did in the past when “Bubbles” Greenspan or “Helicopter Ben” Bernake were FEDERAL RESERVE CHAIRMEN.
THOSE THAT FORGET HISTORY ARE DOOMED TO REPEAT IT….

When American companies start to cut back, lay people off, these people can not keep spending to keep GDP/the economy growing, then these people can not pay their mortgages/auto loans/credit cards….Will it be “somewhat” similar to 2008… all over again? 
I have no professional opinion nor do I have a crystal ball – Maybe the FED will engineer a “SOFT” Landing”…..this time: they never did in the past when “Bubbles” Greenspan or “Helicopter Ben” Bernake were FEDERAL RESERVE CHAIRMEN.

The Stock market, as well as the overall economy, moves between a boom and bust cycle - it basically moves between growth and value investing - it is that simple!
After a recession, when the whole stock market cycle, the business cycle and the credit cycle have gone bust:  interest rates are low to super low, the Fed is trying to stimulate the economy - Investors start to look at Growth Stocks/ Growth-Oriented Mutual Funds (a growth stock is one that generally averages about 20% growth per year along with the technology sectors like semiconductors and Biotech/Pharmaceuticals)….. Small Cap stocks/Mutual Funds also take off - money is cheap to borrow to fund R&D, marketing expenses, etc. 
But Value stocks/Mutual Funds also start to rise:  A RISING TIDE LIFTS ALL BOATS - was the 90′s moniker!
Hence, the market starts to take off:  as markets start to heat up and the economy starts to OVERHEAT - the Fed starts to raise interests to COOL the market down - like in November 1999 - the Fed had raised the Federal Funds rate way up to a whopping 6.5% to try and cool down the economy and to put a damper on the Dot.com Boom - fueled stock market!  
Those who forget history do not recall that the yield curve inverted in 1998; the Federal Funds rate was too high in 1999 (FYI side note:  the “average” technology mutual fund in 1999 was up 100%!!!!!!!!!!!! by years’ end)  Guess what?  The whole market crashed in April 2000!
So from that time to about mid-June 2000 - the market went nowhere!   Value investing and investing in Bonds (like Intermediate and Long-term Treasury Bonds (backed by the full faith of the US government) went up from June 2000 to December 2000 (Berkshire Hathaway A shares went up over 85% that year within 6 months!).  Warren Buffet?  Look him up!  Treasuries also did extremely well - like one “Talking Head” has been quoted as saying - “There is always a Bull Market somewhere”……
And the whole process starts over again from a boom to bust cycle, about every 10 years or so……the Real Estate Market moves in a boom to bust cycle about every 7 years….
MY OPINION – stay the course with Value-oriented Investing:  it works in both up and down markets!  A mix of Value Mutual Funds and Treasury Bond Mutual Funds weather ALL storms - OVER THE LONG HAUL - and yes, expect a few hiccups along the way too LOL!)….Exchange Traded Funds (ETF’s) investing will work too - but, I like Mutual Funds - the minimums are $3,000.00 however (at least) to start investing in a SINGLE fund.  DO YOUR RESEARCH/DUE DILIGENCE ON THE WEB and also on YOU TUBE!
Guys - the overall stock market climbs in a stair-step fashion:  up, then sideways/down and then up again!  Invest for the long term (like 30-50+ years)….YOU WILL BE A WINNER!  Be it an investment account or a retirement account or BOTH:  like a personal investment account and a ROTH IRA or an employer-sponsored 401k Plan along with a personal investment account.
Dollar-Cost Average your contributions to personal investment/ROTH accounts; that is invest the same $ amount each and every month - regardless, whether the market is up or down!  Ignore the noise!  Ignore the Talking Heads”.

Me personally, I am accumulating cash and letting my current investment portfolio just ride along with this geo-politically fueled/baseless rate cut economic environment …Impeachment talks, China Trade War escalation, Iran concerns, Saudi Arabia bombings, Japan-South Korea tensions as well as renewed North Korea tension over prior failed talks, the American Farmers plight due to the trade war, negative return/yield rates on European Bonds, Brexit concerns, a dollar that is too strong, etc.

this is actually really important and pardon me for doing the cliche reblogging with a caption thing but i want to talk about braids and just how significant they are
to native people (and of course i can’t talk about every native tribe as there are very specific sects and i only really am coming from the perspective of seneca) hair is extremely important as it represents the walking of the Sacred Path as the physical extension of thought and self, and holy men, women and two-spirits are identified through specific styles of dress and even if not holy, the hair shows what a person has participated in, their feelings, their age, whether they are married or not, whether they are in mourning and their tribe
my grandfather is seneca and he had to remove his braids at a very young age and it was an act of assimilation because his mother knew they had to try to be white in order to proceed and it’s a tool of oppression and humiliation to cut (or force to cut) a native american person’s hair for both religious and cultural preservationist reasons
my mom is half-seneca and her choice for me to not cut my hair until i was 13 and for it to be worn in traditional manner was because of this and when i cut my hair then, i cut it off at the base of my head for also this reason; i was diagnosed with depression and was going through therapy, i wanted my hair and my treatment to signify that i was becoming a new, better person– eventually i started dying my hair but that is for separate reasons of colour symbolism and it’s still an important thing to me
please do not invalidate the struggles of other POC, i understand that this happens and it’s horrific to not be able to wear your natural hair, these are also children whose culture and religion is being stripped away from them and they can’t even participate in something so important within their culture simply because of white patriarchal ideas of masculinity

American Indian children (especially plains ndns) were forced to attend boarding schools where they were forbidden to speak their own language and had to cut off their hair and choose a “white” name from the bible. If you refused, the teacher would often ridicule you by ignoring you anytime you attempted to speak or participate in class, to the point of saying offensive, false things about your people to rile you up enough that you gave in and picked a white name so the teacher would let you speak and tell the truth. (This is shown in bury my heart at wounded knee). In fact, it is hard to trace records before the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries bc the govt considered the way native peoples often have several different names that they go by in different context and by different people to be too annoying to record them in a census, another reason they were forced to choose white names. 
Being oppressed for your natural hair and the names you choose is a real thing other poc face and it’s wrong and it’s racist, but this specific post is about what it means to American Indians, and for them it was not only racist stereotyping, but forced assimilation and genocide of their cultures.

some fun facts abt residential schools:
 • people who went to residential schools were abused physically, sexually, verbally, and emotionally. my mushum went through all of these until he turned 18 and was allowed to leave
 • boys were not allowed to wear their braids. period. the point of the residential schools was to ‘kill the indian in the child’ and you can google literal before-and-after images of students that the schools would distribute as a source of PRIDE
 • the government would experiment on the students, starving them to see how long they could go without food before it seriously affected them. officially, over 6,000 native children died in residential schools. our government admits the number was likely much higher
 • residential schools were literally hitler’s source of inspiration for concentration camps during world war II
 • where im working right now, there are people in their 30s who were forced to attend residential schools
 • the last residential school closed in 1996, one year after i was born, two hours away from where i live, twenty minutes from my family’s reserve
native assimilation has been the goal from the very start


Residential schools may have officially been shut down, but native kids are still disproportionately removed from their homes and while ICWA (the Indian Child Welfare Act) was designed with the intent of ensuring they’re still placed within their community, ICWA was just recently overturned in the courts, which means that these children are being overwhelmingly placed with white families.  I had a cat that used to sleep with me, and once she had given birth to 4 kittens, she
 brought them to me at night to bed, so I got scared to smash them by accident and went
 to sleep downstairs in the living room, after 10 mins she comes to sleep with me, then
 goes upstairs and bring her kittens one by one. can we call that trust?

I once stayed at a game reserve in South Africa, and they had three cheetahs – two males and one female. The boys stuck together (they were brothers), but female cheetahs are solitary, save for when they are raising cubs. Which is hard work for cheetahs, because they don’t/can’t den, she’s working constantly to protect/move her cubs, as well as feeding both them and herself.
Now, these cheetahs ARE in a private reserve, but they’re still essentially wild. But they are more or less accustomed to the presence of people. And this cheetah, Ketswiri, got very badly injured in her leg one time, which usually would be fatal to a cheetah. The staff at the reserve helped her. Another time, she was starving, and they provided her a fresh antelope carcass. And she remembered this, because the science officer was telling us how one time he was watching Ketswiri and her cubs, and she wandered over and dumped all her cubs at his feet, and walked off. Like “watch my kids, I need some me time.” And he was panicking like COME BACK I CAN’T BABYSIT YOUR KIDS WTF


Half of the comments are about cats giving birth on top of or next to their owners and I’m not crying at all

it’s so funny though because domesticated cats are aggressively social in raising their young so basically op’s cat was like bitch these are your kids too, where tf you think you’re going???


A long time ago there was a stray cat that visited us pretty often. She kinda became our cat. She got pregnant, and gave birth in a little hole under our AC unit outside. 
One night it started pouring down rain. Me and my parents were kinda worried because we were sure that their little den would flood. So we pulled back the blinds to our sliding glass door. 
Low and behold there’s mama cat, sitting on our patio and staring up at us, desperation in her eyes. She meowed at us and when we went out she led us to her babies. We were right- their nest had started flooding. We pulled them out and brought them inside, and mama seemed so relieved and happy. 
I think about this a lot when people say cats are stupid, or heartless. She knew to come to us for help. She knew we would help her. Even if we hadn’t went to look I’m sure she would have screamed at the door loud enough for us to know something was wrong.

 that inspired a thought which inspired this

 I broke my favorite wand.
 No, that is not an analogy for anything. I
 broke my wand and it broke my heart.
 This may immediately seem like this is about
 to verge into the territory of being a comical
 post... which is a natural assumption when a
 grown man states that he had his
 heartbroken from "breaking his wand"... but I
 very much mean what I am about to say
 because this seemingly silly piece of wood
 breaking (because my slightly fat ass sat on
 it) made me realize something that I would
 like to publicly address. A behavior I have
 seen flaring up on social media recently, and
 that is, people passive aggressively
 judging others for the things that they
 purchase, cherish & own.

 for such an odd infatuation. Yes, it was my
 love of the Harry Potter novels that started

 so damn beautiful that I legitimately cannot
 believe I get the honor of owning themm

This is the world’s largest flying Engine of Murder marveling at the fact that it can actually have its tummy rubbed.

I feel like this is the next step up on “loose your fingers” roulette from petting a kittie’s tummy, but just below belly rubs for say a lion.

Can someone who knows birds better than I do tell me whether this eagle is as happy as it looks?  Because I want it to be happy.  It looks so happy.  Bewildered by having a friend, but so happy.

Just popping on this thread to confirm: yes, the eagle is happy about the belly rubs. Golden eagles make this sound when receiving allopreening and similar affectionate and soothing treatment from their parents and mates. It’s the “I am safe and well fed, and somebody familiar is taking good care of me” sound. Angry raptors and wounded raptors make some pretty dramatic hisses and shrieks; frightened raptors go dead silent and try to hide if they can, or fluff up big and get loud and in-your-face if hiding isn’t an option. They can easily sever a finger or break the bones of a human hand or wrist, and even with a very thick leather falconer’s gauntlet, I’ve known falconers to leave a mews (hawk house) with graphic punctures THROUGH the gauntlet into the meat of their hands and arms, just from buteos and kestrels way smaller than this eagle. A pissed off hawk will make damn sure you don’t try twice whatever you pulled that pissed her off, even if she’s been human-imprinted.
If you’re ever unsure about an animal’s level of okayness with something that’s happening, there are three spot-check questions you can ask, to common-sense your way through it:
1. Is the animal capable of defending itself or making a threatening or fearful display, or otherwise giving protest, and if so, is it using this ability? (e.g. dog snarling or biting, swan hissing, horse kicking or biting) 2. Does the animal experience an incentive-based relationship with the human? (i.e. does the animal have a reason, in the animal’s frame of reference, for being near this human? e.g. dog sharing companionship / food / shelter, hawk receiving good quality abundant food and shelter and medical care from a falconer)
3. Is the animal a domesticated species, with at least a full century of consistent species cohabitation with humans? (Domesticated animals frequently are conditioned from birth or by selective breeding to be unbothered by human actions that upset their feral nearest relatives.)
In this situation, YES the eagle can self-defend, YES the eagle has incentive to cooperate with and trust the human handler, and NO the eagle is not a domesticated species, meaning we can expect a high level of reactivity to distress, compared to domestic animals: if the eagle was distressed, it would be pretty visible and apparent to the viewer. These aren’t a universally applicable metric, but they’re a good start for mammal and bird interactions.
Pair that with the knowledge that eagles reserve those chirps for calm environments, and you can be pretty secure and comfy in the knowledge that the big honkin’ birb is happy and cozy.
Also, to anybody wondering, falconers are almost single-handedly responsible for the recovery from near-extinction of several raptor species, including and especially peregrine falcons. Most hawks only live with the falconer for a year, and most of that year is spent getting the bird in ideal condition for survival and success as a wild breeding adult. Falconers are extensively trained and dedicated wildlife conservationists, pretty much by definition, especially in the continental USA, and they make up an unspeakably important part of the overall conservation of predatory bird species. Predatory birds are an important part of every ecosystem they inhabit. Just like apiarists and their bees, the relationship between falconer and hawk is one of great benefit to the animal and the ecosystem, in exchange for a huge amount of time, effort, expense, and education on the part of the human, for very little personal benefit to that one human. It’s definitely not exploitation of the bird, and most hawks working with falconers are hawks who absolutely would not have reached adulthood without human help: the sick, the injured, and the “runts” of the nest who don’t receive adequate resources from their own parents. These are, by and large, wonderful people who are in love with the natural world and putting a lifetime of knowledge and sheer exhausting work into conserving it and its winged wonders.

 is good. And, yes, bone-in. Schmuck. Take the steak home. Get a bigass frying pan and
 put the shit on the stove, cranking the heat up as far as that fucker will go. Take a
 shitload of salt-rocksalt, you dumb motherfucker, none of that fine-grained crap
 here-and toss it around the bottom of the pan. When the pan is hot as all fuck-it
 should scorch the shit out of your finger if you're stupid enough to touch it-put the
 fucking steak on there. You can crack some pepper on the top of the steak as the
 bottom is searing, but don't even talk to me about garlic or onion powder or
 COMPOUND FUCKING BUTTER, asshole. This is steak, all you fucking need is salt and
 pepper. After a bit (3 minutes for pink, 5 for cooked good), flip that shit over and do
 the same fucking thing you just did with the other side, i.e. sit on your ass and wait for
 your motherfucking steak to be ready, you useless assbag. When you're done, sling that
 shit on a plate. Beringer's 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Private Reserve

Just popping on this thread to confirm: yes, the eagle is happy about the belly rubs. Golden eagles make this sound when receiving allopreening and similar affectionate and soothing treatment from their parents and mates. It’s the “I am safe and well fed, and somebody familiar is taking good care of me” sound. Angry raptors and wounded raptors make some pretty dramatic hisses and shrieks; frightened raptors go dead silent and try to hide if they can, or fluff up big and get loud and in-your-face if hiding isn’t an option. They can easily sever a finger or break the bones of a human hand or wrist, and even with a very thick leather falconer’s gauntlet, I’ve known falconers to leave a mews (hawk house) with graphic punctures THROUGH the gauntlet into the meat of their hands and arms, just from buteos and kestrels way smaller than this eagle. A pissed off hawk will make damn sure you don’t try twice whatever you pulled that pissed her off, even if she’s been human-imprinted.
If you’re ever unsure about an animal’s level of okayness with something that’s happening, there are three spot-check questions you can ask, to common-sense your way through it:
1. Is the animal capable of defending itself or making a threatening or fearful display, or otherwise giving protest, and if so, is it using this ability? (e.g. dog snarling or biting, swan hissing, horse kicking or biting) 2. Does the animal experience an incentive-based relationship with the human? (i.e. does the animal have a reason, in the animal’s frame of reference, for being near this human? e.g. dog sharing companionship / food / shelter, hawk receiving good quality abundant food and shelter and medical care from a falconer)
3. Is the animal a domesticated species, with at least a full century of consistent species cohabitation with humans? (Domesticated animals frequently are conditioned from birth or by selective breeding to be unbothered by human actions that upset their feral nearest relatives.)
In this situation, YES the eagle can self-defend, YES the eagle has incentive to cooperate with and trust the human handler, and NO the eagle is not a domesticated species, meaning we can expect a high level of reactivity to distress, compared to domestic animals: if the eagle was distressed, it would be pretty visible and apparent to the viewer. These aren’t a universally applicable metric, but they’re a good start for mammal and bird interactions.
Pair that with the knowledge that eagles reserve those chirps for calm environments, and you can be pretty secure and comfy in the knowledge that the big honkin’ birb is happy and cozy.
Also, to anybody wondering, falconers are almost single-handedly responsible for the recovery from near-extinction of several raptor species, including and especially peregrine falcons. Most hawks only live with the falconer for a year, and most of that year is spent getting the bird in ideal condition for survival and success as a wild breeding adult. Falconers are extensively trained and dedicated wildlife conservationists, pretty much by definition, especially in the continental USA, and they make up an unspeakably important part of the overall conservation of predatory bird species. Predatory birds are an important part of every ecosystem they inhabit. Just like apiarists and their bees, the relationship between falconer and hawk is one of great benefit to the animal and the ecosystem, in exchange for a huge amount of time, effort, expense, and education on the part of the human, for very little personal benefit to that one human. It’s definitely not exploitation of the bird, and most hawks working with falconers are hawks who absolutely would not have reached adulthood without human help: the sick, the injured, and the “runts” of the nest who don’t receive adequate resources from their own parents. These are, by and large, wonderful people who are in love with the natural world and putting a lifetime of knowledge and sheer exhausting work into conserving it and its winged wonders.

This is the world’s largest flying Engine of Murder marveling at the fact that it can actually have its tummy rubbed.

I feel like this is the next step up on “loose your fingers” roulette from petting a kittie’s tummy, but just below belly rubs for say a lion.

Can someone who knows birds better than I do tell me whether this eagle is as happy as it looks?  Because I want it to be happy.  It looks so happy.  Bewildered by having a friend, but so happy.
