Children, Life, and Shopping: Jonnie Hallman Gestern @destroytoday Still have no idea how people can... work a full-time job cook dinner often exercise regularly enjoy weekends keep the apartment clean Seems basic, but I can't consistently do it. shine a light Vor 14 Stunden @rknLA Current full-time (40hr/wk) jobs aren't designed for single people to do this; they're post-war relics & depend on the unpaid labor of a spouse for cooking, cleaning, shopping, etc. You're not deficient for not being able to do it yourself roach-works: i went into my 40-50 hr/week manual labor job with the explicit agreement with my spouse that i would do the paid labor and they’d be my pit crew. i get home too tired to cook by the end of the week, almost too tired to eat. all my younger coworkers are destroying their kidneys with caffeinated sports drinks, and the men who participate in the care of their children come to work looking like miserable zombies. my friend russel loves his kids and spends all weekend with them and comes into work on monday looking like he’s one sneeze away from the grave because he couldn’t get enough sleep.  you can’t have a good life when 40 hours a week are spent laboring. there’s no room for cooking or cleaning or children, you HAVE to trade necessary rest for those things. it’s a huge sexist problem that we don’t expect men to cook, clean, or care for children, because it’s also a huge sexist problem that traditional work/life ‘balance’ of a 40-hour work week completely prohibits people from fully engaging in life outside of labor.  letting women into the workforce was a great first step. redefining how much work anyone should be working is the necessary next one.

I never could’ve imagined that it would make so many people so happy! But I exchanged so many hugs and daps and high fives, it was unreal. I had a lot of really great conversations with people that were just super excited to see some Native representation at the convention. So that part was really special for me, because that was a big part of my own personal inspiration to begin with.I originally brainstormed this costume in late 2015, but I really started rolling on production this last year, once I committed to this years SDCC… My main goal was to make a Native American variant of a fan-favorite character. I was immediately drawn to Captain America because of everything he symbolizes as basically the poster boy of a nation. To me it was the perfect parallel. And once I visualized the red and white bone breastplate on my abdomen, I knew this was something I had to see through.A lot of old school leather work with the awl! The majority of the armor was made from a base of 6mm EVA foam with 3 oz deer hide glued over it. The pieces were then stitched together with sinew or leather lace. Using this technique allowed me to form curves and build the necessary bulk of the armor pieces while also getting the suede textures I was looking for. And a whole lot of beading!—- https://www.instagram.com/hot.glue.burns/PHOTO: https://www.instagram.com/p/B0FQd_1AKhk/

Amazon, Comfortable, and Complex: GARBAGE DISPOSALWORKERS ALMOST %100 MALE NO CALL FOR EQUALITY SEWER WORKERS ALMOST %100 MALE NO CALL FOR EQUALITY COALMINERS OVER%90 MALE NO CALL FOR EQUALITY COMFORTABLE BLUECOLLARJOBS CALL FOR EQUALITY! EMPOWER WOMEN!MORE WOMEN ATWORKPLACE! insanityallegra: the-exercist: Is that so? Women have been a leading force in sanitation strikes, calling for equal treatment and job security. This particular service industry has been the focus of multiple feminist manifestos and employment goals. Women fought long and hard to gain the right to work in sanitation, and they’re continuing that effort to open up the field more. This issue is so big that Parks and Rec even made an episode about it.  Female sewer workers have repeatedly sued the DEP for unfair treatment, seeking to open up the industry and gain equal status with their male peers. Sewer work is often targeted for its biased hiring practices. Hundreds of female candidates fight for limited available positions, but most are turned away, despite having the necessary experience and skills. Feminist workers recognize that these women are willing and able to do the work, but aren’t getting the opportunity to gain employment here.  Historically, coal mining is one of the most highly targeted careers for gender bias. Women have been petitioning for the opportunity to mine safely since the Industrial Revolution. This is actually one of the primary and best studied examples of women fighting to enter traditionally male fields. Lots of women, who both succeeded in the mines and didn’t, continue to petition for increased access to this field.  And yeah, women want white collar jobs too. Go figure - A diverse population of women, with different abilities, interests and levels of education, are all fighting for the right to seek diverse forms of employment. Fighting for equality in one sphere doesn’t mean that we’ve forgotten about the others.  Just because you aren’t paying attention to the feminist movement doesn’t mean that the feminist movement is nonexistent.  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Alive, Anaconda, and Community: ORDER HEREORDER HERE edens-blog: inner-fish: leftist-daily-reminders:leftist-daily-reminders:winterayars:leftist-daily-reminders:randomrants-obdm:Never gets an order wrong, takes breaks, gets lazy, comes in late, ‘forgets’ to wash hands after restroom, gets frustrated, or gets paidOf course ancaps just view human labor as a cost to be minimized and a tool for the accumulation of capital. Of course the implication here is “beg for scraps from the capitalists or starve”. Under more ideal conditions, where the means of production wasn’t hoarded by elites and managed in top-down fashion, machines replacing menial jobs would be precisely what we want – that means shorter hours and more leisure time. Under the current system, people need to find any job (no matter how necessary) and earn wages in order to subsist, so of course we’ve been conditioned to view machines replacing labor as a threat. But why should it be? If so many jobs aren’t necessary because they don’t, well, build and maintain the necessities of society (and only serve the interests of capital and bureaucracy), and so many other jobs aren’t necessary because they can be replaced by machines, WHY do we put up with this bullshit?? If everyone divvied up the necessary jobs in a democratic post-capitalist society, they could be eased by tech and the shifts could be reduced to fractions of what they are now. Capitalism will not be able to cope with the automation it sets into motion. Socialism is nigh.Capitalism will not be able to cope with automation. A lot of current theories about labor, capital, and the like will not be able to cope with a world where 1 person’s labor can provide a reasonable life for 100.Exactly. A central capitalist contradiction will make itself known in the next couple decades: if businesses are going to want to compete, they’ll need to automate, which in turn means laying off workers by the millions; the unemployed masses will not be able to buy the products that the capitalists sell, and at some time then a tipping point will be reached where the only jobs presented to people will be building and maintaining the machines (of course a bit of an exaggeration, but it’ll still likely be close to the reality). Universal basic income proposals will crop up, and the elite will see it as an opportunity to keep capitalism alive and kicking. (In other words, UBIs in this context are meant to maintain capitalism’s tiered ownership over the means of production, land, and resources, but with redistributive taxation to provide a livable floor for people, all to mitigate revolutionary upheaval in the end.) Of course socialists would rather just ditch this convoluted process of UBIs and taxation as a sophisticated feeding tube for capitalism – just turn the economy over to the people for democratic/for-need management and utilize all that automation for the collective good. That means people benefitting en masse, thus shorter shifts, thus more time for leisure and creative self-actualization and socializing. In that potential post-capitalist democracy, in the many scenarios where one person’s labor could provide a reasonable life for a hundred, you just need to divvy up those jobs so that any burden that exists can be eased, alongside a community of people having daily shifts of, say, 2 to 4 hours (and even that’s very likely a conservative estimate). Technology and democratic management of the collective capacities have the potential to liberate people from so much toil, if only we were to think outside of the myopic box of mainstream political discourse presented to us by OP. This isn’t about minimum wages – this is about demanding a world that works for human beings by default, not only when it’s convenient for the gears of capital. This isn’t about “the people need more jobs” – we ultimately need less jobs, with a focus on the necessary ones divvied up among populations and the economy from there focused on literally meeting societal needs, all so that people can spend most of their lives pursuing their interests and building connections. The creation of art, culture, inventions, and entertainment would arise from self-actualized individuals who create because they want to or because they see value in enriching the lives of others. We can do so, so much better than the bland status quo discourse that insists we must choose between smaller scraps and machines stealing our ability to access resources. The scraps were made by us, as was the whole feast, and they only find their way down to us because a superfluous owner class accrues the majority of the feast based on their unnecessary top-down ownership; the machines should be creating a world where it’s easier for us to access resources, not representing the opposite as a threat to us.I just want to remind everybody that OP is an ancap and that this is the disgusting view capitalism-apologists have of workers in the service industry. These machines are perfect for people who are mute, deaf, have anxiety, can’t read, or can’t speak English. This post is stupid and these machines are great.

Bluetooth, Bodies , and Cars: 12 CANNYBOTS robot building kit CANNYBOTS robot building kit robot building kit cannyböt meme-mage: Toys 2.0: Smart Toy Robots, Built by Kids - Cannybots They started off as a fun 3D printable open source project for the classroom: now the Cannybots 3D printable racing smart-toy cars are ready to become a real consumer product and have turned to Kickstarter to collect the necessary funds and begin production.  As might have been expected, since the project had already received a good amount of positive feedback, it did not take long at all for the Cannybots to zoom past their $40,000 funding goal, almost tripling it within just the first three weeks of the campaign. Pledges now stand at $154,000 with 24 days left to go at the time of writing. While the first Cannybots were fully 3D printable and could be downloaded off the web, these new commercial Cannybots come as a complete, ready-to-assemble kit, which includes the base and top of the bot, spoiler, motor brackets, wheels, tires, motors, an Arduino-compatible Cannybot Brain, switch, a rechargeable battery, USB cable and a screwdriver; essentially everything you need to build it, along with the instruction sheet and a set of 7 stickers to personalize the bot. Those who buy two or more kits also get a 6 feet long track. In a way Cannybots represent the future of smart-toys and they are not exactly cheap. The early bird offer for a single car started at $89, with $29 more to get the track. In this sense, the $148 Super Early Bird double pack offer, which includes the track and the possibility to start racing right away, was probably the best option and in fact it was the first to run out. In the future, single Cannybots will retail for $119 and the double pack full retail prices will be set at $267. The new, pre-assembled, injection molded Cannybots certainly look like more mass-produced toys than the early 3D printed versions. The project is still very much dependent on 3D printing to allow the utmost level of customization options. With the use of any ordinary home 3D printer, users can create the shells and chassis to customize their Cannybot design using simple and free browser-based CAD software from Autodesk (which is partnering with Cannybots). Like Anki Drive – or any next gen smart toy – Cannybots can also communicate via Bluetooth with a mobile app to control the vehicles. The Cannybot Joypad App lets users race in Freestyle mode to drive the Cannybot like an RC-car, or select from Figure of 8, NASCAR, and Drag racing mode, providing lap timing and lap counting, as well as the option to switch lanes. Dueling mode can be selected for Sumo and Jousting matches. The app also enables “mood light” selection. Along with the line-following capabilities, the Cannybots are colour sensitive, meaning that they can detect colour patterns on the floor. These can be used in various game play scenarios such as the start and finish line for racing. Perhaps more importantly, the Cannybots are programmable, which means that their evolution – even more so than their racing proficiency – is in the hands of the player. Who will be able to program their Cannybot brain and 3D print their new Cannybot bodies: this is the future of interactive gaming. kickstarter
