Listen, my parents installed a lock on my door so I could lock everyone out of my room if I wanted to at sometime around 8 years old. They had a key of course for safety but they’ve never had to use it and they’ve never used it when they didn’t have to. I was allowed full access to any books, movies, and internet I wanted fully informed about our family beliefs and practices but I was given no supervision once I reached about 13 because my parents trusted me to stick to the rules or not as I felt and come to them if there was anything that I had questions about. As long as I said where I was going, who I was with, and when I was going to be back and then phone if anything changed I was allowed to do pretty much as I pleased from 13 onward. I moved back in with my parents after university and the first conversation we had was my dad telling me that if I felt like they were treating me like a child to please tell them because they had no intention of doing so. I still live with them and I’m comfortable here as an adult. When I eventually move out again, which I feel no rush to do because I feel respected and given more than enough elbow room, I will probably talk to them often if not everyday. Because they’ve always respected my privacy and my autonomy both physically and emotionally. If you want an independent and fictional child trusting them and giving them their space will do you many more favours than not. meanwhile, my parents… password protected my computer so i had to get permission every time i wanted to use it put a passcode lock on our pantry so we couldn’t eat without permission regularly checked our internet browsing history shut off the internet at regular intervals, including when i needed it for university homework did monthly checks of our bank statements and would confiscate money if they didn’t approve of our activities in response, i went behind their backs and opened a new bank account, got a secret job, bought my own groceries, and used the wifi from the school across the street. they didn’t succeed in disciplining me. all they did was force me to distance myself from them. your children are not your property. they are human beings, and they deserve basic human rights. nothing in this world teaches you to lie and sneak around like a parent who doesn’t believe you should have privacy

Beautiful, College, and Desperate: Carl Kinsella Follow @TVsCarlKinsella Reminder that the story of how Alan Alda met his wife Arlene is pure goals. "In 1956, while attending Fordham, he met Arlene Weiss, who attending Hunter College. They bonded at a mutual friend's dinner party; when a rum cake accidentally fell onto the kitchen floor, they were the only two guests who did not hesitate to eat was it." 5:04 AM-14 Sep 2017 1,114 Retweets 3,179 Likes jadedamber: mysharona1987: flootzavut: onekisstotakewithme: bbc03undercover: murielsweating: mysharona1987: They’re still together like 60 years later. This is a beautiful love story. I’m just looking for someone to eat garbage floor cake with. I love everything about this story. Alan Alda is my spirit animal (and quite possibly my patronus) That’s hilarious and adorable. “The hostess of the evening had made a rum cake, and she put it on the refrigerator to cool,” Alda recalled. “The refrigerator shook, and the cake fell off the refrigerator and hit the floor.” It was a party moment that separated the casual diners from those desperate for dessert. “Arlene and I were the only two people who went in with spoons and ate it off the floor,” he said with a smile. “That’s how you know. When two people eat a cake off the floor, that’s it for life.” There’s no arguing that point. In fact, Alda seems certain today’s daters could learn a thing or two from him and Arlene. “All this matchmaking on the Internet, and they ask them questions — just toss a cake on the floor and see who goes for it,” he suggested. this post single-handedly fixed my evening and cleared my pores.

The conservative tribal leaders who the US armed funded ( who later became the Taliban) declared this to be a “war on Islam” fought against the central government. The US had no problem back then with encouraging the growth of Islamic conservatism to counter socialism/communism. You created your biggest enemy you have no one to blame but yourselves. BLESS THIS POST its crazy to me how the US talks about war in the middle east as if its this ancient problem inherent to the area instead of a recent problem created by western countries to further their own interests. ☕️☕️☕️ the CIA took out the democratically elected leader of Iran in the 1970s over oil and that set off an entire chain of events leading to ISIS, here’s more about multiple other countries we’ve fucked over  The United States: Fucking monsters.

This one commemorates Endlings, individuals that were the last of their kind before their species went extinct. All of their stories are sad, but I think it’s important to remember them, especially since they all went extinct so recently! The first three pins are Benjamin, the last Thylacine, Martha, the last Passenger Pigeon, and Lonesome George, the last Pinta Island Tortoise! With more to unlock, starting with Incas, the last Carolina Parakeet! I’m REALLY excited about this project, so please pledge! The pins will be beautiful!! didn’t george repopulate his entire species? Sadly, no. He was the only tortoise found on Pinta Island in 1973, as feral goats introduced by humans had destroyed most of the vegetation on the island. Efforts were made to save George’s DNA in the form of hybrids with closely-related tortoise species ever since. Three clutches of eggs were laid throughout his remaining lifetime, but none ever hatched, and George died in 2012. Incas and Turgi stretch goals have been unlocked! Toughie the Rabbs’ Fringe-Limbed Frog and Booming Ben the Heath Hen have been unlocked! ALL THE PINS HAVE BEEN UNLOCKED! A full set of Endlings pins is now TEN pins! Wow! All stretch goals unlocked! Go get yourself some gorgeous pins!
