Alexa’s records and recordings have already been used in criminal trials. In the US, a digital record of your emotional patterns can be used to deny you housing, jobs, and to rule on your ability to exercise your basic rights. Consider that psychiatric stigma and misdiagnosis can already be wielded against you in legal disputes and the notion of a listening device capable of identifying signs of distress for the purpose of marketing to you should be made more clearly concerning.  Moreover we have already seen the use of algorithms like this on Facebook and other “self-reporting” (read: user input) sites capable of identifying the onset of a manic episode [1] [2] [3], which have been subsequently been linked to identifying vulnerable (high-spending) periods to target ads at these users, perhaps most famously in selling tickets to Vegas (identified in a TedTalk by  techno-sociological scholar Zeynep Tufekci where she more generally discusses algorithms and how they shape our online experiences to suggest and reinforce biases).  The notes on this post are super concerning- we are being marketed to under the guise of having our emotional needs attended to by the same people who inflicted that emptiness on us, and everyone is just memeing.

Children, Food, and Gatorade: good immigrunt Galvan CejaTV Millions fear being left with no health care access. I feel for each one of you..now consider millions of immigrants who never had a chance. 5:02 PM 04 May 17 @IvanCejatv, cofounder of @UndocuMedia - "I feel for each of you who fear & worry that you may lose your access to healthcare...but I invite you to also consider that there exist millions of human beings out there who never even had a chance. Regardless of today's vote and what may come tomorrow there exists a population that will go without health care access regardless. They are deemed worthy of picking your food, they are deemed worthy of caring for your children, but they are denied access to proper care because of their immigration status. They donate to your blood banks, they register as organ donors, heck they are even out there working campaigns tirelessly so you don't lose your healthcare...and yet they are not deemed worthy of accessing the health care that you fear losing. Growing up for some of us vaporub, warm chicken soup, sprite, gatorade, or whatever we could purchase over the counter was our health care...and in times of desperation for some of us the only thing we could do was to pray we would get better by some miracle...May this be a reminder that these life saving resources and opportunities will continue to be denied to millions regardless of any verdict. But we will continue pushing and advocating for you to keep yours...just do not to forget about us when you get yours...." Health4All SaludParaTodos
