Not those confederate MFs. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHERINE!!! If anyone wants to know more about her and how she did that, watch Hidden Figures!!! Its one of my favourite movies and its about how she pushed through the racisn and sexism of her coworkers and showed everyone what an amazing person she is without ever demanding fame, only respect. She was a widowed mother of three daughters, and her mother would look after them during the day whilst she worked extra long hours at NASA to get all the work done as quickly as possible. She was so persuasive and demanding of respect (always by using unrefutable logic) that she mamaged to fet into pentagon meetings. Like, wow.You also get to see about her two closest friends who also worked at NASA, one of which (Mary Jackson) was Mary Jackson, the first black student at the University of Virginia. She took night classes at Hampton High School and was the only black person and the only woman in her class, just so that she could finally be an engineer. Every day shed go to NASA, work her ass off trying to engineer those shuttles properly so that no one would die, go home to have dinner with her family, then be off to classes until late at night. So inspiring. The other friend (Dorothy Vaughan) made herself indespensible to NASA so that she and thirty other women could keep their jobs when a computer was built that would replace them in their roles as human computers. She encouraged both of her friends to take every opportunity granted to them, whilst fighting to be the first African-American Supervisor at NASA, as she was already doing the job after they lost their supervisor and no one really pushed replacing her.The movie is both empowering to all women, but most of all WOC, and is incredibly important in how it shows the racism that these women faced on top of the sexism, and how they pushed through because fuck those white guys, am I right? But, yeah, you should really watch it and pay attention to the little end bit where it talks about these three incredible women.
