GO OFFF Ok so I’ve been playing for 18 years and i’m a string teacher. Can i just say how IMPORTANT it is for young kids to see a BLACK, MALE-PRESENTING PERSON playing, nae, SHREDDING on a violin? I’ve know maybe 5 black people who played stringed instruments throughout my schooling and teaching (predumably because i’m an upper middle class white woman). In districts where the population is predominantly black, funding is always low, so the instruments are crappy. Kids quit, or the program is dismantled. I’ve seen very few professional string players who are black. Obviously there are black string players. We just don’t see them because they “don’t look like” string players. This person is the real deal. They were clearly trained, and seems to have some fiddle training as well. How cool is that? >:3c: gayestgaytoevergayupleb: celindrea: woobification: babydollbucky: thegreynightsky: diaryofakanemem: Have you ever seen a violinist going APESHIT?! It was a blip on my radar because I’m not tapped into like… white upper middle class hipster earthy-crunchiness— my dad does earthy-crunchy for a living I lived in the deep woods for three years, so fucking with rocks streams for no reason genuinely feels like the biggest waste of time I can imagine while hiking— and tbh I think I only heard about it bc of the blatant appropriation thing. But it truly is amazing… how with nothing, with nothing, some people still find a way to destroy everything around them. Because they “love nature” insofar as it can be used consumed by them for entertainment, or a brief vacation (in the same way as they “love” the people they steal culture from); but not enough to respect that they are visitors in a living ecosystem that does not exist for their consumption or as their playthings. And so they don’t believe their actions have negative impacts, because that requires enough self awareness to view the world around them as not needing their input, and to view themselves as an invasive or destructive force by way of that uninvited meddling turned hobby. : princessnijireiki: bogleech: bogleech: A rare giant hellbender salamander found dead because some hiker’s rock-stacking collapsed on her.I didn’t even know rock stacking was a thing until this year but there are many ways it disrupts the environment. *Ever since it caught on as a form of white hipster “meditation” there are actually so many hikers who stack rocks now as a hobby that it collectively pollutes streams with sediment that the rocks would otherwise be filtering and reduces the populations of countless organisms that grow and nest among said rocks. http://www.wideopenspaces.com/rock-stacking-natural-graffitti-ecological-impact/ https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/stacking-rocks-wilderness-no-good-180955880/ http://www.takepart.com/article/2016/08/25/new-graffiti-national-parks-fight-stone-stackers/ It’s also weird (and by weird, I mean utterly predictable) how when I first saw this hipster rock stacking thing taking off, it was in specific emulation of inuksuit other Native cairn practices as the new wave appropriated meditation flavor of the moment. shes-a-killerqueen: bigcutiekelly: titankoretech: roseworter: This is so infuriating? Like do you really think war and smart phones cant exist in the same country at the same time without cancellation? Those phones (not even “expensive smartphones”) are probably all the connection they have with family. And that a phone = rich, and that their having a phone erases their status as refugees? I got a smartphone brand new for $20, it’s not great and pretty far behind compared to the new phones but it was cheap. My friend in Columbia was able to buy a similar one for about $12.And also there is the fact that you can actually be middle class or even rich and end up as a refugee!Let’s say your town floods and you can only grab what you can fit in a single backpack of course you are going to take your damn phone! ESPECIALLY when your entire family is split up cause the evacuation happened out of nowhere and you want to be able to find them again. Racist white people seem to think cell phones cost $5 million dollars and nobody but tech billionaires and other whites should own them. Literally everyone knows to have a fully charged phone in an emergency situation, but once non westerners try to have a fully charged phone in a situation, it’s some sort of fucking luxury that should be condemned. Didn’t realize that disaster and upheaval came with a mandatory downgrade for your cell phone. : SOME PEOPLE UST NEEDA HIGH-FIVE. My only criticism with this is Hobbits not having capitalism when they literally auctioned off Bilbo’s stuff when they thought he died. other races can be capable of capitalism just as multiple races can be capable of being sneaky, condescending, or over-dramatic, but dwarves and men probably invented it.  Pretty sure dwarves are as obsessed with genealogy as anyone, though. We know the name of Eomer’s wife’s great-grandfather. We know the names of all eleven of Pippin’s great-grandfather’s siblings. Arwen’s great-great grandfather’s brother was named Elmo. Compare that to the Dwarves. Who is Fili and Kili’s dad? Gimli’s mom? Dwarven interest in genealogy ends after the question “are you in line for the throne or nah?”  : Elves Men so, so easily corruptable abstinence only condescending will fight over jewelry horny obsessed with genealogy over-dramatic Dwarves stubborn Hobbits xenophobic bursts into song at the slightest provocation capitalism sneaky age and die will eat you out of house and home mirkwoodest: bramblepatch: mirkwoodest: steelosprei: mirkwoodest: understanding the races of middle earth via their most prominent character flaws.
