Black History Month, Chelsea, and College:
Black history month black artists day 6: Going a bit modern today with American actor, comedian, and filmmaker Jordan Peele.

Peele was born in 1979 and raised by a single mother on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. He attended Sarah Lawrence College for two years before dropping out to form a comedy duo with his roommate Rebecca Drysdale. In the early 2000’s he was cast as a regular in MADtv, where he first met fellow comedian Keegan Michael Key and the two were soon cast alongside each other for most sketches due to their great comedic chemistry, eventually leading to their own spinoff series as comedy duo Key & Peele. The series had great success from 2012 to 2015, and the duo also coproduced the critically praised film “Keanu” in 2016.

In February 2017, Peele had a career breakthrough with his solo directorial debut, the horror film “Get Out”, which earned enormous critical acclaim and was a box office success. It is considered one of the most profitable films of all time, grossing over $250 million next to a budget of $4.5 million. The film also received numerous accolades, including Academy Award nominations for Best Director, Best Picture, and Best Original Screenplay. Peele became the third person (after Warren Beatty and James L. Brooks) to receive those three nominations for a debut film, and the first black filmmaker to receive them for any one film. Peele also won the Bingham Ray Breakthrough Director Award at the 2017 Gotham Independent Fim Awards, and a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Screenplay.

Peele has been married to Chelsea Perretti, actress of Brooklyn Nine-Nine fame, since 2016 and the two recently welcomed a son, Beaumont Gino Peele.

@markhamillz

How is this an amazing cast? There are literally only two actors out of this entire cast that are actually great actors, I have never even heard of the rest of these people. I feel like you are only saying “Its an amazing cast” Because there are so few white people. Angela Basset: Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner, with enough award nominations/wins to necessitate her own wikipedia page for awards alone. Lupita Nyong’o: Academy Award winner.Chadwick Boseman: Joseph Jefferson Award nominee; already showed his stripes as Black Panther in Captain America: Civil War.Sterling K. Jordan: Featured actor in popular shows like Friday Night Lights, The Wire, and Parenthood in addition to frequent appearances on film.Daniel Kaluuya: The star of Get Out, which currently boasts a 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been in the press pretty much constantly upon release. He was also featured in an episode of the acclaimed series Black Mirror. John Kani: An actor, playwright and director; while he hasn’t had as much work in America, he’s prolific enough to have a theatre in Newtown Johannesberg named after him.Winston Duke and Letitia Wright have fewer credits to their names (the former has a consistent role in the well-received Person of Interest; the latter has been cast in Black Panther and Ready Player One in what is hopefully the beginnings of a bright career), but I don’t mean to belittle their successes by leaving them out, and those who aren’t as well known SHOULD be given a chance by big franchises. Lesser known names tend to get big after starring in Marvel movies. I sure as hell didn’t know who Chris Evans or Chris Hemsworth were prior to their flagship titles.But even putting aside how important it is that this film is led by black creators, just because you don’t know these people doesn’t mean that they’re not critically acclaimed in their field, who haven’t put in the work. They have, and they’ve been recognized for it. Consider checking out some of their work before you decide whether or not only two of them are great actors. Excuse me, police? I’d like to report a murder I love receipts

Animals, Beautiful, and Calvin Johnson: Celebrity James Cromwell stands up for the voiceless SeaWorld Kills SeaWorld Kills NTA PETA Wor Sea SeaWorld Kill 411 CKS Kill PAT EAMOR SUCKS SeaWorld Kills PeTA @standup911 Academy Award Nominee James Cromwell stood and bravely protested during a SeaWorld Orca Encounter show — despite an aggressive and violent reaction from a few of the “abusement” park’s fans. Cromwell and his fellow protestors spoke on behalf of the orcas who can’t speak for themselves and did so on a Facebook Live feed for the world to see. Cromwell took the megaphone and commanded the audience’s attention. “Orcas deserve a full life in the ocean, not a life sentence of swimming endless circles until they drop dead from disease,” he started. “My friends at PETA and I want SeaWorld to move these intelligent animals to seaside sanctuaries without delay.” While SeaWorld has agreed not to breed orcas in captivity, since the backlash caused by Blackfish, but it isn’t enough. Orcas and other beautiful animals are still suffering today. PETA’s protest asks, simply, for SeaWorld to build and establish sanctuaries so orcas can finally have peace after being forced to live in, what is for them, a tiny, cramped space with no cover from the sun. Whales don’t belong in tanks.Cromwell and the protestors were later handcuffed and taken into police custody. We applaud all of them for their courage and for standing up for animals. - r-p - @crisveganfit - standup911 bethechange govegan seaworld animalcruelty
