Being Alone, Facebook, and Girls: Home News Turkish Photographer Beats Up Years Old Client After Learning Bride Is 15 by Jack Alexander 33 minutes ago 2 Comments erikacpataki: likeawinterbird: vague-humanoid: anthonybourdainpartsunknown: corrective action be the change you want to see in the world His name is  Onur Albayrak! Here’s the story. Hurriyet Daily News reports that Albayrak had been hired to photograph the July 5th wedding at Turgut Özal Nature Park in the eastern Turkish province of Malatya. On the day of, when he noticed that the bride-to-be didn’t look like an adult, he asked the groom her age and learned that she was only 15. “The groom had come to my studio some two weeks ago and was alone,” Albayrak tells the Daily News. “I saw the bride for the first time at the wedding. She’s a child, and I felt her fear because she was trembling.” Albayrak then reportedly refused to continue as the wedding photographer and attempted to stop the wedding. The argument soon turned physical when the groom attacked him as he was attempting to leave, Albayrak says. The photographer ended up breaking the client’s nose in the fight, according to local reports. Albayrak confirmed the reports in a Facebook post, which has been met with widespread approval, attracting thousands of Likes and hundreds of overwhelmingly positive comments. “I wish this had never happened, but it did,” Albayrak writes. “And if you were to ask me if I’d do the same thing again, I’d say ‘yes.’ Child brides are [victims] of child abuse and no power on earth can make me photograph a child in a wedding gown.” The legal minimum age for marriage in Turkey is 18-years-old for both sexes, and child marriage is punishable by imprisonment for men who marry underage girls. Despite being outlawed, however, child marriage is still prevalent in the country and remains a controversial political issue. [Source] – go read the rest! this guy is a hero. btw - let’s remind ourselves, americans, that unlike turkey, in the US the legal minimum age for marriage is only 18 in two states. in alabama, you can be married as young as fourteen years old if you have “parental permission”. in california, you can get married under 18 if you go to counseling, have a parent with you when you apply for the marriage license, and appear before a judge. in some states, there isn’t even a specific minimum age for marriage. the minimum marriage age for girls in new hampshire is 13 years old. 48 states allow child marriage. child marriage is not an “over there” problem, it happens right here, legally. any one of us might find ourselves called upon to break somebody’s nose if we encounter something like this occurring. we also have a responsibility to support groups and laws trying to end child marriage in this country.

Child Support, Fail, and Jail: Jay-Z and Roc Nation to Invest $3 Million in App That Combats Mass Incarceration @balleralert Jay-Z and Roc Nation to Invest $3 Million in App That Combats Mass Incarceration-blogged by @thereal__bee ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Jay-Z and Roc Nation will reportedly make a $3 million investment in an app called Promise, that combats mass incarceration. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ According to the website, the app was created by Phaedra Ellis-Lamkins and Diana Frappier to “get people out of jail and provide ongoing support and supervision to help keep them out.” The hope is that the platform will exist as an alternative to incarcerating individuals who cannot afford bail or who miss court dates by mistake. It will provide services to users that will help them log upcoming court dates, counseling appointments, and drug tests. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ When it comes to rehabilitation, Promise plans to provide programs to users that assist with job training and getting information about housing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ As a rapper, Jay-Z has used his platform to consistently speak about how the jail system is designed to fail those of low class and people of color. Last year the rapper wrote an opinion piece on Father’s Day about the exploitative bail industry. For many individuals, they are jailed due to their inability to afford bail, despite not being convicted of crimes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ During an interview with TechCrunch, Ellis-Lamkins spoke on the small infractions that lead to many people of color ending up behind bars. “People are going to jail because they look at a piece of paper and misread it, or are going to jail because they can’t afford a class because they’re instead paying child support. If we’re putting people in jail because they’re poor, brown or black, we’re spending money the wrong way.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ “We are increasingly alarmed by the injustice in our criminal justice system,” Jay-Z said in a statement confirming his involvement with the app. “Money, time and lives are wasted with the current policies. It’s time for an innovative and progressive technology that offers sustainable solutions to tough problems. Promise’s team, led by Phaedra, is building an app that can help provide ‘liberty and justice for all’ to millions.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀

Future, Love, and Memes: Just Because l Love You Doesn't Mean We Have To Be Together @balleralert Just Because I Love You Doesn’t Mean We Have To Be Together-blogged by @peachkyss ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We go into relationships hoping for a happily ever after. Sometimes, things don’t always go as planned due to different situations or circumstances that may have taken place in the relationship. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ When you have constantly tried to make things better to ensure that you and your partner are happy but things seem to get worse, it’s time to let it go. There’s no need to be in a toxic relationship with someone if you don’t see progress or happiness. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now, I’m not telling you to give up on your relationship but if you have tried everything from communication, counseling, compromising, etc., and it’s still not working, you have to move on. Regardless of how much you love someone, you can’t stay in a relationship hoping for the better, then five years later you still find yourself saying the same things over and over. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ All relationships that we go into have the possibility of ending. We don’t truly know what the future has in store for us but let’s not settle because you think you are supposed to be with someone. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You can love someone to the moon and back but if they are not helping you grow, you have to do what is in your own best interest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We can love unconditionally but if someone isn’t showing you the same, it’s time to make changes. You can love them with all of your heart but sometimes we have to love them from a distance.
