Girls, School, and Target: INDEPENDENT LIKE Voices There is a way to revent so many eenage girls being deprešsed - but no one wants to admit it ity the girl who's wearing a bra before she leaves primary school already she's ventured over the top, into a no man's land of groping, cat calls and adult disapproval ithelpstodream: excerpt: “If girls say they are depressed, we owe it to them to listen. Furthermore, we can no longer afford to ignore the effect of a highly gendered culture on the mental wellbeing of girls. If we’re able to draw links between masculinity and high suicide rates in men, we can surely do the same with femininity and female despair. If the past is another country, female adolescence is a war zone. Puberty transforms you into a walking target overnight. If you’re lucky, other girls get there before you and become your shields. Pity the girl who’s wearing a bra before she leaves primary school; already she’s ventured over the top, into a no man’s land of groping, cat calls and adult disapproval. Girls need support in getting through this. They need coping methods. But they also need a different society, one which permits them to take up space, to express their fears and passions rather than internalise them. It should not be the role of mental health services to patch girls up and arm them to face another onslaught of patriarchal slings and arrows. There has to be a ceasefire. Girls shouldn’t have to be so brave.” read more: http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/mental-health-teenage-girls-quarter-rise-patriarchy-sexism-abuse-a7957441.html

San Francisco 49ers, America, and Apparently: People Are Mad About Colin Kapernick Being Named GQ's "Citizen of the Year" L. @balleralert People Are Mad About Colin Kapernick Being Named GQ’s “Citizen of the Year” – blogged by @MsJennyb ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Just hours after GQ announced that ColinKaepernick would be recognized as one the magazine’s “Men of the Year,” specifically coined this year’s “Citizen of the Year,” the Twitterverse nearly drowned in whitetears. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Many took to the social media platform to express their disapproval with GQ’s decision to feature the former 49ers quarterback. Others even called for a boycott of the magazine, using the hashtag BoycottGQ. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “I guess it’s time to BoycottGQ since @GQMagazine named Colin Kaepernick “Citizen of the Year.” A divisive, anti-American, Racist jackass that single-handedly destroyed the @NFL isn’t a citizen, he’s a traitor,” Twitter user Hans Auf wrote. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Last year, Kaepernick led the league in a protest against police brutality and racial injustices by kneeling during the national anthem. His movement sparked a widespread discussion about the former quarterback’s purpose, his subsequent extended unemployment and the league’s handling of the protests. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “ BoycottGQ magazine…how dumb can you get GQ? Colin is a whiny rich spoiled crybaby and hates America. DO YOU hate America too GQ? Apparently,” Cup of Covfefe & Me wrote. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “Seems GQ magazine has awarded @Kaepernick7 “Man of the Year” award. In doing so, they agree that it is perfectly fine to insult our nation’s flag, national anthem and our nation’s heroes,” Adorable Deplorable tweeted. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, others were pleased with GQ’s decision. In fact, many praised the magazine for recognizing such a courageous man, who risked his career to make a difference in the world.

Doe, Donald Trump, and Memes: Judge Blocks Trump's Military Ban on Transgender Service Members @balleralert Judge Blocks Trump's Military Ban on Transgender Service Members - Blogged by: @RaquelHarrisTV ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On Monday, Washington, D.C. Federal Court Judge Colleen Koller-Kotelly blocked Donald Trump's ban on transgender people serving in the military. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trump issued his presidential memorandum in late August. Two of its sections were blocked: his reinstatement of the ban on transgender service members and the ability to recruit openly transgender people for the military, which became effective in June of 2016. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The judge said she made her ruling based off the "disapproval of transgender people generally.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ “There is absolutely no support for the claim that the ongoing service of transgender people would have any negative effective on the military at all,” the judge wrote in a strongly worded, 76-page ruling. “In fact, there is considerable evidence that it is the discharge and banning of such individuals that would have such effects.” ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ However, the judge did rule in favor of government funds not being used for sex-change operations. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This case was centered around Jane Doe v. Donald Trump, a lawsuit brought upon by current transgender service members who were against the ban. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The controversy all began with Trump's tweet from late July that wrote he would not allow transgender people to serve "in any capacity in the U.S. military."

Appalled, Best Friend, and Butt: Out of Office - Business Travel Re: Melissa Benoist Alienating LGBT Fans of SupegirInbox x o whom it may concern, During the Supergirl cast's first day at San Diego Comic Con, your client Melissa Benoist exhibited some behavior that deeply upset a large portion of her LGBT fanbase as well as supporters of Supergirl in general. It is not my intention to defame Melissa or spew mindless hate; her words and actions today made a noticeable portion of her audience feel not only uncomfortable but also unwelcome as far as supporting her role as Kara on Supergirl Melissa openly, on a live video stream, participated in singing a song with Jeremy Jordan and other cast members that aggressively mocked the concept of Melissa's character having romantic feelings for Katie McGrath's character Lena Luthor. The relationship between these characters, named 'Supercorp' by Supergirl fans, was made an enormous joke by the star of this show. Melissa, Jeremy, and the other cast members at Comic Con were singing and yelling about how Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor would never be more than friends, shouting at the top of their lungs that those two female characters would never see each other in a romantic light in their whole lives. They danced and clapped about the incomprehensibility of a woman loving another woman, save for Katie McGrath and David Harewood who appeared uncomfortable in their already isolated positions behind the couch that the rest of the cast was situated on. The song celebrating how ridiculous the concept of female best friends eventually dating each other finally died down, and Jeremy Jordan said, "l think I'm going to get destroyed for what l just did. I debunked Supercorp." In response, Melissa Benoist said, "It was pretty brave. Is bravery making fun of girls of all ages who see themselves in the characters on a TV show that brands itself as feminist? Is bravery spitting in the faces of non-heterosexual women who find safety and enjoyment in the relationship between Kara and Lena? Is bravery yelling and singing to young girls who are unsure of their sexualities that there is no way someone could ever fall in love with their best friend and have it mean something besides being the butt of a joke? On behalf of LGBT women specifically, I am incredibly disappointed. Watching Melissa make fun of people who see a blossoming relationship between Kara and Lena was hurtful to the point that many are unsure of whether or not we can enjoy her show again. For someone who claims feminism and empowerment, Melissa let down a lot of supporters today by being passive and participatory in an act of disrespect and humiliation initiated by her castmates. Watching that video for the first time felt like a personal attack, like Melissa Benoist and the cast of Supergirl were standing around me on a stage and hurling insults to the tune of a song. I was appalled shocked, embarrassed, and hurt by what I saw Melissa do on Saturday. This email is not about 'shipping' or who I want to end up with who. It isn't about which characters I like more or what Kara's sexuality is. It is about how your client, who has exhibited awareness of the LGBT following of the show, blatantly made a mockery of non-heterosexual women during an interview and caused a large amount of Supergirl viewers to question our place in the fanbase seeing as the lead actor of our show turned romantic feelings between two women into a hurtful joke. She is a public figure who supposedly represents feminist ideals, and shouting her disapproval of women loving women on screen made many women and younger girls feel humiliated, disliked, and unsafe as far as remaining a part of Melissa's fanbase. As an actress myself, I absolutely feel honored when someone relates to a character l play or feels inspired by something I've done. Art is made to be interpreted by many, and as an actress Melissa has greatly disappointed Supergirl fans who interpreted her relationship with Lena as one full of love, admiration, and support. The message she sent with her behavior is one she needs to think about with emphasis on LGBT youth I am writing this because I want Melissa, who many young girls look up to, to know what her words and actions mean to marginalized people. I am incredibly glad that I am not a fifteen year old lesbian who watches Supergirl. I feel lucky that I have been judged for my sexuality in the past so that the first time I got made fun of wasn't by a celebrity that I look up to. If I were a young girl who had romantic feelings for her friend, I would feel completely and utterly shattered based on what I saw today. At 19 years old, I had yet to feel as singled out and invalidated by an actor before today In sending this, I don't expect or desire anything besides for your client, Melissa Benoist, to see how much this decision of hers has negatively affected members of her fanbase as well as fans of Supergirl in general
chloeniccole:

chloeniccole:

I absolutely emailed Melissa’s publicity team, her agents, and her managers, buuuuut someone is in fact on vacation so at least one is out of the office until the 25th.

Even so, I sent it to a handful of others and I’m posting it because I want to do right by all of you. I attached some screenshots of quotes that I had permission to use that aren’t pictured here, and the email addresses of Melissa’s representatives were attained professionally. I hope this message is well-received because I think that as a community wlw deserve a lot better than what our Supergirl showed us today. ♡

I just want to make it clear that while my initial email was more general in nature and focused a lot on the community the response includes very personally directed statements about my actions and my character and I do not want any of you to send/tweet anything on my behalf for the sole purpose of defending me.

I feel disrespected and patronized and I don’t accept this as any kind of apology or reconciliation.

(this screenshot is illegible and the full text is under the cut)

Af, Bad, and Big Sean: Sup @Dr Smash love Five episodes in, on Peaky Blinders. Five. MF. Episodes. And the first sex scene that came up had to be while I was on the COT DAMN ellip this morning (I won't say who was having sex on-screen because this show is amazing AF and I don't wanna spoil it). This time, the girl next to me, a lil blondie with the black yoga workout pants with like the horizontal hot pink racing stripe, at first seemed like she wasn't as approving. She sort of glanced and then looked away. I was like "my bad it's this show called Peaky Blinders it's not a porno lol I promise. Not that there's anything wrong with porn. You probably don't want porn. I don't watch porn either to be honest. I used to? You know what lemme stop, this hole I dug is deep enuf 😬." And she giggled and said "I don't watch that show but do you watch orange is the new black? It's pretty fucking awesome ☺️." To which I said "no! I'll watch it next 😊." And continued my workout. There's no moral to this story except to say that I'm never watching orange is the new black, it just seemed like the right thing to say 😂. I've tried twice Bruh, I can't get into that show, but, from my experience, a first conversation with someone is not the place to express disapproval over something they like. "BIG SEAN? YOU LISTEN TO BIG SEAN? LMAO WOW HE'S TERRIBLE YOUR TASTE IN MUSIC IS BAD LOL DO YOU HAVE OTHER REDEEMING QUALITIES OR IS YOUR WHOLE SITUATION JUST, LIKE, IMBUED WITH BAD TASTE LMAO." I like to save those conversations for after we smash: "wait - you actually 'like' Big Sean - like you listen to him on purpose, not just when he's on the radio?" *pulls sheet over chest and genitalia* *gazes out the window* "I can't believe we copulated...you know I have to subtract you out of my number, right? I feel so dirty 😞". LOL but nah see Bruh after you've been intimate, you can be more honest in your teasing SavageLife 🐸☕️😂😂😂
