Fail, Fire, and Life: Teacher: You have to make an innocent computer game! Me: Hose/lose from zach gage loselose is a game about choice and consequence, and b what it means to sucoeed or fail You play the role of a space captain on a seemingly endless quest to dectroy aftacking aliens. You receive one point for each alien you kil You have one life, and if an allen touches you, you ill esplode. Tyou manage to kil al of the stera without dying, you wil win th game Authough loselose is a video-game, everything that happens whl while you play is rea Each aien is procedurally generated out of a Sie on your computer. When you kill an alen, the fie it was created from is destroyed On the other hand, if you are kiled, the applcation itat wil be di stroyed 00:54 Lose/Lose is a video-game with real life consequences. Each alien in the game is created based on a random file on the players computer. If the player kills the alien, the file it is based on is deleted. If the players ship is destroyed, the application itself is deleted Although touching aliens will cause the player to lose the game, and killing aliens awards points, the aliens will never actually fire at the player. This calls into question the player's mission, which is never explicitly stated, only hinted at through classic game mechanics. Is the player supposed to be an aggressor? Or merely an observer, traversing through a dangerous land? Why do we assume that because we are given a weapon an awarded for using it, that doing so is right? By way of exploring what it means to kill in a video-game, Lose/Lose broaches bigger questions. As technology grows, our understanding of it diminishes, yet, at the same time, it becomes increasingly important in our lives. At what point does our virtual data become as important to us as physical possessions? If we have reached that point already, what real objects do we value less than our data? What implications does trusting something so important to something we maderoviad menetichave? AH YES. MY FAVOURITE FRIENDLY COMPUTER GAME

9/11, America, and Dad: December 20, 2018 Dear Mr. President: I have been privileged to serve as our country's 26th Secretary of Defense which has allowed me to serve alongside our men and women of the Department in defense of our citizens and our ideals I am proud of the progress that has been made over the past two years on some of the key goals articulated in our National Defense Strategy: putting the Department on a more sound budgetary footing, improving readiness and lethality in our forces, and reforming the Department's business practices for greater performance. Our troops continue to provide the capabilities needed to prevail in conflict and sustain strong U.S. global influence One core belief I have always held is that our strength as a nation is inextricably linked to the strength of our unique and comprehensive system of alliances and partnerships. While the US remains the indispensable nation in the free world, we cannot protect our interests or serve that role effectively without maintaining strong alliances and showing respect to thos allies. Like you, I have said from the beginning that the armed forces of the United States should not be the policeman of the world. Instead, we must use all tools of American power to provide for the common defense, including providing effective leadership to our alliances NATO's 29 democracies demonstrated that strength in their commitment to fighting alongsid us following the 9-11 attack on America. The Defeat-ISIS coalition of 74 nations is further proof. Similarly, I believe we must be resolute and unambiguous in our approach to those countries whose strategic interests are increasingly in tension with ours. It is clear that China and Russia, for example, want to shape a world consistent with their authoritarian model gaining veto authority over other nations' economic, diplomatic, and security decisions -to promote their own interests at the expense of their neighbors, America and our allies. That is why we must use all the tools of American power to provide for the common defense My views on treating allies with respect and also being clear-eyed about both malign actors and strategic competitors are strongly held and informed by over four decades o immersion in these issues. We must do everything possible to advance an international order that is most conducive to our security, prosperity and values, and we are strengthened in this effort by the solidarity of our alliances Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position. The end date for my tenure is February 28, 2019, a date that should allow sufficient time for a successor to be nominated and confirmed as well as to make sure the Department's interests are properly articulated and protected at upcoming events to include Congressional Dad’s resignation letter.

Amazon, Complex, and Jeff Bezos: Dazed Jeff Bezos Realizes He Spent Entire Conversation Thinking About How To Automate Person Talking To Him theonion: SEATTLE—Suddenly snapping back to attention, a dazed Jeff Bezos reportedly realized Thursday that he had spent an entire conversation thinking about how to automate the person talking to him. “Sorry, could you repeat that? I just lost focus for a second [as I indifferently watched you open and close your mouth, becoming increasingly aware of the fact that a simple machine could do the exact same things as you],” Bezos said to the Amazon vice president in front of him, even as he resumed brainstorming a complex algorithm that would streamline the executive’s duties, perform them with greater speed and efficiency, and possibly even capture some of his unique human qualities to make it user-friendly. “Whoops, there I go again. I must’ve spaced out [after realizing I could probably render you completely irrelevant within just a few years]. I guess I’m really distracted today [by the tantalizing thought of an automaton executing every one of your relevant functions for no salary with never a single complaint].” Bezos, who suddenly recalled a series of vivid dreams from the previous night in which he automated the entire American workforce, went on to apologize for not getting much sleep.

Apparently, Church, and Fail: captainlovelxce hey have i ever told y all about my cursed apartment building cursed how, you say???? well, here's the thing: no-one can fuckin see it. let me explain further .i live in a tiny flat in a big red brick building with huge windows. it has a driveway with two columns on either side not a thing you usually see in this area. it is opposite a bus stop and several corner shops. it is on a main, busy road. most significantly, it is attached to a church. a well- known church with a big pink sign on the front. all things that would make it easy to spot, right???? like if i gave that list of distinguishing features to someone along with my address then they'd be able to find my filat easily, right??? well APPARENTLY NOT we have never once had a delivery to our flat (outside of the usual postal service) where we haven't been called by a lost courier usually, they are about thirty seconds away. "i'm by the church and i don't know where to go from here," they say. so we tell them, "it's the building right next to the church!! the one you're outside. that church. it's the next building along. it's opposite a bus stop and it has a driveway with two big columns." without fail, they call back 5-10 minutes later, still lost. i have answered calls from both lost delivery people and friends where i've been able to see them standing in front of the driveway, from my window a friend of mine once drove past my building three times, while on the phone to me, getting increasingly panicked that she couldn't figure out where she was going. she parked in a nearby road and i had to walk to her car and guide her to the driveway however, my flatmate and i found this place when we were flat-hunting first time, no trouble, and we don't know what that means other than i guess this place chose us and the rent is so cheap because the estate agents were so relieved to find the first people in a thousand years who could actually see this fuckin building . today a food delivery person called me to say he was outside the church was told to go to the next building along, (a 20 second journey on foot) and arrived at my door 20 minutes later, saying, "sorry, i went to the back of this building by mistake. weird right???" this building doesn't have a back it backs onto the rest of the church it doesn't have a back where did he go . . toastynoneofyourbusiness There's probably a wizard's pub somewhere around there and the spell keeps overlapping with the nearby buildings captainlovelxce i haven't really been interacting with the notes on this post bc it blew up unexpectedly and ive been rly busy, but reblogging again to say - holy fuck, there is actually a pub just down the road that's all boarded up and derelict but i HAVE seen people go in and out of it and sometimes you can see a light on in the upstairs window Source:motherfortuna #bahahahahah #sacred space #fairy circle 92,553 notes TFW you live in a liminal space

Being Alone, Dude, and Food: Professor: Wings-Eating Show Hot Ones Is Problematic for Women By KATHERINE TIMPF July 12, 2018 6:33 PM oo O O O Hot Ones host Sean Evans (YouTube screengrab via First We Feast) A YouTube show that challenges contestants to eat increasingly spicy chicken wings has raised the ire of a Tulsa media-studies professor. ccording to a professor of media studies at the University of Tulsa, the YouTube show Hot Ones is problematic because it "manipulates inequitable gender hierarchies." In case you aren't familiar with Hot Ones, it's a show where the host challenges his guests to eat increasingly spicy chicken wings. Seems pretty harmless, right? An innocent chicken-eating show couldn't possibly be something that's actually hurting women, could it? Well, Professor Emily J. H. Contois thinks it could. According to her paper, "The spicy spectacular food, gender, and celebrity on Hot Ones," published in the journal Feminist Media Studies, the show "creates, maintains, and manipulates inequitable gender hierarchies through the interrelated performances of gender, food consumption, and celebrity." In other words: According to Contois, society just doesn't accept the idea of women eating spicy foods, and that is the reason that only eleven women have appeared as contestants on the show so far. Women, she argues, know that they don't really stand a chance on Hot Ones, because gender binaries "create power hierarchies by feminizing dainty, light, and sweet flavors and foods, eaten in small portions with restraint." The paper goes on to claim that society conditions people to believe that "real men" are supposed to "seek out and conquer" spicy foods, and that "being the type of dude who loves hot sauce is part of performing conventional masculinity.. through actions like disregarding risk and facing danger fearlessly" Women, on the other hand, aren't supposed to eat messy foods like wings, or to discuss topics such as the effects that spicy foods might have on their digestive tracts, because these topics are "often considered taboo for women to openly discuss, let alone as part of a celebrity persona" without adopting a sort of "cool girl" persona, which some women might not want to do.
feminismisahatemovement:

alaija:

mogai-watch:

Oh
My
God.
Stop.
-A woman who eats hella spicy wings and doesn’t appreciate this kind of nonsense “academia” getting funded while departments contributing more than virtue-signaling and divisive dreck are chronically under-funded.

Some brave woman just needs to smash the piquant ceiling!!!

Or just have a Thai woman go on there…

Go easy on them, feminists ran out of things to be plausibly outraged about in around 1982. Fall, Fbi, and Kim Jong-Un: Trudeau, Merkel and Macron are now the leaders of the free world. Whatever Putin wants, he supports. Why would you give G status to a country that invades to annex another nation, hacks your voting systems, meddles in your election, and who knows what else? This line of reasoning that Trump is controlled by the Kremlin is a level of red baiting, hive mind, groupthink that is just frightening. it’s sad how liberals fall for this nonsense. I am no conservative nor Trump supporter but this has got to stop. Also the homophobic undertones that the “resistance” are promoting with Trump and Putin being in love has got to stop (to be fair in this post it is not used). My opinion is that Trump and his lackeys did money laundering in Russia. There is ample evidence of this. There is, so far, a lot of nothingburgers when it comes to the claims that Trump is controlled by the Kremlin and even the more simple claim that Russia is working hard to appease Putin. If Putin and Trump are so cozy and so in bed with each other then answer this: 1. why did Russia not vote with the USA in regards to Israel? 2. Trump is also nice to Duerte, Kim Jong un, and Netanyahu. is he their puppet too? 3. Trump is being more hawkish to Russia than Obama was. The Trump administration has sold weapons to Ukraine something Obama did not take a side on as to not exacerbate the separatist tensions why would a putin puppet do that? 4. Trump admitted a new NATO member, Montenegro, despite Russia’s objections 5. He has increased NATO military numbers outside of the border of Russia 6. Trump has bombed Syria multiple times against Assad while Putin supports Assad, what kind of great relationship is this? Trump is increasing the proxy war not deescalating it. 7. Trump appointed Mattis and pentagon say that Russia and China are a greater threat to national security than terrorism 8. John Bolton is pushing for increasingly hawkish measures on Russia and many other countries 9. There is ample evidence that Trump administration officials including Kushner were manipulated by Israel, yet no one is complaining about that. Israel the sacred cow of both parties isn’t seen as an issue since it’s all Russia. Also after a year of investigating the 19 or so indictments, and the guilty pleas involved, NONE of them have anything to do with Trump Russia Election conspiracy ie- Manafort and Gates were accused of money laundering for funds in Ukraine (as ive been saying for months money laundering is where the evidence points to). With Flynn and papadopoulos both lied to the intelligence agencies but none of it directly pointed to election meddling. In flynns case it was to undermine obama in Israel and one step was to talk to a Russian ambassador the second convo was about sanctions. There is speculative evidence that perhaps was being so nice to Putin because Trump thought he wasn’t going to win and he wanted to push a Trump tower in Moscow and also money laundering. But the evidence that Putin or the Kremlin is controlling Trump and colluded in overturning democracy is weak. Meme farms have not been connected to the kremlin and even if they were . come on give me a break. Memes did not change the election. Democrats need to take responsibility for pushing a lifeless corpse of a candidate who colluded with her party to win, shunned progressives while pretending to be one, and who was known for lying, scandals, and flip flopping. Democrats are just embarrassed that they poured hundreds of millions of dollars into an “inevitable” candidate who lost to a reality TV star. Liberals should focus on Trump’s corruption, his policies, and their own policies as a more effective way of galvanizing people. The democrats need to stand up for something besides Russiagate hysteria and Trumps tweets. Immigrant families are being pulled apart while Rachel Madow and the liberals go full on looney tunes with Russia hysteria. Also note how Obama made fun of Romney for being so ardently against Russia even calling it McCarthyism and now that Trump rhetoric-wise doesn’t want to murder Putin in his sleep, the same democrats who laughed at Romney now want Trump to be hawkish and antagonistic towards Russia, which ironically, at least policy-wise, he has been. Also I love how liberals now in a tribalist reversal revere the FBI and CIA, two very corrupt agencies that have lied to us many times before, have spied on activists, leftists, and its own citizens, and responsible for regime changes around the world. Liberals also now love Mueller who lied to us about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction. This is insanity. I am not saying it is impossible that Trump and Putin can be working together, What I am saying is that is seems based on the evidence highly improbable. Skepticism is an important tool in the toolbox of critical thinking. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Here are some sources that might whet your appetite for an alternative view of this nonsense 1 (author on collusion fails to show how Russia and Trump colluded. offers no evidence 2 (an hour long debate on Russia and Trump being a traitor; both sides discuss evidence; it is clear which side is lacking in evidence at least to me) 3 (a year after the Russia Trump investigation: an analysis)

Alive, Cats, and Dogs: Saving your pet with CPR With pets increasingly being treated like a member of the family many owners are learning emergency techniques like CPR to keep their pet alive before bringing it to a veterinarian. Check for breathing and pulse Areas to check orpuse Check pulse using middle and index finger below the wrist, inner thigh (femoral artery) below the ankle or where left elbow touches the chest. Look for other warning signs Gums and lips will appear gray-colored If there is no breathing and no pulse, begin CPR immediately. Pupils will be dilated and not responsive to light. Gums Pupils If not breathing, give breath to animal Cats and small dogs Place your mouth over its nose and mouth to blow air in. Medium-large dogs Place your mouth over its nose to blow air in. Heimlich maneuver If breath won't go in, airway may be blocked Turn dog upside down, with its back against your chest. Wrap your arms around the dog and clasp your hands together just below its rib cage (since you're holding the dog upside down, it's above the rib cage, in the abdomen). Using both arms, give five sharp thrusts to the abdomen. Then check its mouth or airway for the object. If you see it, remove it and give two more rescue breaths Start compressions if no pulse Lay animal on right side and place hand over ribs Compressions Compress per breath Animal size chest of air compressions. Do not give compressions if dog has pulse Cat/small dog (Under 30 lbs.) 1/2-1 inch Medium-large dog (30-90 lbs.) 1-3 inches5 Giant dog (over 90 lbs Continue giving CPR until the animal has a pulse and is breathing. after 20 minutes 1-3 inches 10 Repeat procedure and then every few minutes Check pulse after 1 minute Stop CPR
doggos-with-jobs:

A little OT (sorry) but I thought it was useful to share with anyone who loves dogs: Here is how to save your dog with CPR (image taken from Working Dog magazine)

important post
