Bailey Jay, Complex, and Crazy: lebanon-hangover: partlysmith: gelunnucifera: callan-the-misandrist: positive-press-daily: This lamp absorbs 150 times more CO2 than a tree It’s still in the “so crazy it just might work” stage, but these microalgae-powered lamps, invented by French biochemist Pierre Calleja, could absorb a ton of carbon from the air every year. That’s as much as 150 to 200 trees. [x] NEAT YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND. This is ingenious. The design is a light bulb surrounded by a glass casing. The glass is filled with (water based) media and microalgae. The top is permeable to gasses so that gas exchange can occur. All of the wiring is linked to the grid underground. Since the light source is inside, it gets scattered and “dimmed” by the water and algae. This makes it less glaringly bright and scatters the light wider, which is good for a street light. It is not longer white light as well, which helps make it easier on the eyes while still providing light. At the same time, it provides the light for photosynthesis in the algae, so they are continuously exchanging CO2 for O2, not just in the day. It also provides a source of heat, which helps keep the algae from going dormant during cold weather (as in the snowy picture above). And notice how I did not specify permeability - that’s because NOx’s (NO and NO2) are also permeable and can be used as nitrogen sources to microalgae. In fact, algae are relatively low maintenance. As autotrophs, they don’t require super complex media, not does it really need to be changed/added to. (I’m actually fairly certain that there would still be algae in these tanks a year later; it may need to be cleaned or something, but there would be some living algae.) solar punk sensibilities with cyber punk aesthetic Swamplamp

The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization. 34 O 4G 14:04 European cities at the time. No organization 99laundry When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (novw downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that century's london with a working sewage system artificial "floating gardens" (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasn't even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time. Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool robotsandfrippary 34 O 4G 14:04 mountain springs for drinking. Sometimes he’s a far right conspiracy theorist gun nut, other times he’s a good friend who helps his friends beat a corrupt system. It kind of depends on the writer. Memes, Oblige, and When You See It: NO MATTER HOW EDUCATED, TALENTED RICH OR COOL YOU BELIEVE YOU ARE HOW YOU TREAT PEOPLE ULTIMATELY TEus ALL INTEakut 1 ENERATHING We debate just to be right, not to make it right. We let our insecurities interfere with our actions. We moan about posts on social media but then we go back to our lives & do nothing about it. We call other people fake but then do nothing real. Just because you speak truth to power doesn't mean you are better than those who chat sh*t. Power is what we take, power is what we have already, power is what we give away by doing nothing when it matters. We pray to what we call god but can't agree, what or who founded humanity. At the same time we pray for murdered children, then act surprised when our prayers don't save more children's lives. Because we sit & read our books of faith, with our clean hands & pure hearts despising those who do dirty deeds, those who use structural violence to organise their greed, but yet we aren't willing to get our hands broken to heal broken souls or replace broken systems. Do you think you are better because you abstain from violence, but you never do anything when you see it happening. You see it happening on your phone, videos of people getting raped & shot, films about injustice & you cry rivers, but your tears are just fears of your own lies, you are feeling sorry for yourself & your own mortality. That's what you think when you see fatalities, you continuously question others morality, but then go back to your life because freedom fighting doesn't fit your schedule practically. So what if you meditate, how is that helping others starving? So what if you live on a desert island, off the grid with self sustainability & autonomy, how does that make the wars stop? You know they are out there. Once you make an observation you have an obligation. Will you help to build a better nation, or let devastation manifest during your hesitation. Ask yourself honestly are you doing the best you can to be a beautiful human being, or are you just doing the best you can to seem beautiful while condemning others, knowing about suffering but striving to achieve material dreams, killing others to buy "beautiful things" chakabars
