Bailey Jay, College, and Drive By: 2 hours ago 545 Likes Brazilian rights activist Marielle Franco assassinated in drive- by shooting Rio city councillor Marielle Franco was killed in a targeted shooting on Wednesday night. She was an outspoken critic of police violence and deploying the army into poor neighbourhoods of Rio MarielleFranco Rest in power! 💔🙏🏾 . Via The Root: "Marielle Franco, 38, a black politician from Rio de Janeiro, died fighting for the rights of women and favela dwellers. As a councilwoman from the Maré favela, she denounced the police brutality that favela residents, most of them black, regularly experienced. . On Wednesday around 9:20 p.m., armed men gunned the councilwoman down in her car in the center of Rio de Janeiro with nine shots—four to the head. Her driver, Anderson Pedro Gomes, also died. She had just left an event that she organized about black women’s empowerment. . Her death touched so many people that supporters organized vigils and protests in more than 20 cities across Brazil. Most of these protests were against the genocide of black people in Brazil. For Afro-Brazilians, Franco proved that a black person from a favela could be educated, have dignity and also fight against the social injustice that they suffer from every day. For women, she proved that they could overcome sexism and machismo in Brazil. But her death is hitting Afro-Brazilian women, who suffer the most from Brazil’s violent, racist and sexist society, the hardest. . “She died because she was a combative black woman,” said Lua Nascimento, an Afro-Brazilian college classmate of Franco’s who attended a protest on her behalf in Salvador, Brazil. “She was executed because she was a black favela dweller who fought against the murder of black favela dwellers. The genocide of the black population continues in this country. ” . Thousands of people gathered in front of Rio de Janeiro’s council chambers to pay homage to Franco, who was buried Thursday night. To show their digital support for her, Brazilians are changing their Facebook profile photos to those of Franco and using the hashtag MariellePresente, which translates to “Marielle is here.” . Amnesty International, the longtime leader of a campaign against the genocide of black people in Brazil, demanded that her death be rigorously investigated. With those nine shots, Franco became one more statistic in this genocide. Just over 50 percent of Brazil’s population of 200 million is black ... [Continued in comments]

A crow swooped down. “Oh hell,” she thought, expecting carnage, because crows are opportunists. But the crow chipped at the ice with its beak until the duck was free. Idk of this counts but a few crows saved me from a magpie swooping attack once ,they’re bros who can tell when magpies are being unreasonable and need to chill I love crows so damn much. When I was fifteen, I hit a pretty serious bout of depression, to the point I was in my room for months. Well, a family of crows made a nest in a tree outside my window. There were two parents and two chicks. One chick was healthy and strong. One was weak, and had a caw like something being strained. It sounded more like a rooster crowing and so my parents jokingly named him ‘Buck’.Well… months passed and Buck’s sibling was taught to fly. His parents focused on the sibling because the sibling was strong. The father stayed behind to try and teach Buck, but I saw him try to fly, fail, and crash to the floor. His father helped him back up into the tree. Every day, I would watch Buck from my window until one day I opened it and started talking to him. He was small and gangly and he couldn’t caw right. His feathers were all over the place and I felt a kinship. So I made a deal with him. I told him that if he could do it, if he could fly, then I could find the strength to get up. Well… near the end of the season, after talking with him every day, I finally saw him get out of the nest. He went to the edge of his branch, braced himself, and jumped… and just before he hit the ground, he soared back up into the sky. I cheered harder than I ever had before. That winter, Buck left the area. I was crestfallen. I felt like I’d lost a friend. But I was so damn proud of him.  Cut to the next spring? I’m walking up the driveway one day when suddenly I hear a sound… a broken caw. I look up, and Buck is sitting in a tree above my head. He stared at me and puffed his feathers, then hopped down in front of me and cawed again. I was so damn thrilled, and I told him how proud I was of him. He ruffled his feathers and then soared off into his old tree.  That summer? I heard two broken caws. One from Buck… and one from his chick. Cut to ten years later? We have a family of crows who all have a very distinct caw and they come here and spend every spring, summer, and fall on our property. Buck still greets me every spring. that last reply made me wanna cry. that’s so beautiful. Don’t forget the Russian Crow SLEDDING DOWN A ROOF not once, but twice.  this one morning i kept hearing really loud caws, i remember it was like 5am, LIKE REALLY LOUD AND ANNOYING AND AGGRESSIVE, so loud that i could hear it through a closed window, and i eventually went outside to check it out. there was a crow on my front lawn, it had an injury on its head and couldn’t fly and there were two other crows circling right above it, and they were cawing like mad.  i tried to get close and take a better look and one of them dived super low and tried to attack me. so i went back in the house and chopped some sliced raw meat and tossed it at him from a distance. a few more times later, very soon after, they could tell i was trying to help, and did not attack me. i was “allowed” to walk up close and pick him up, he couldn’t drink water properly so i had to dip my finger in a bowl and stick it in his mouth. i did this few times a day and it went on for about a week before he disappeared, i thought he recovered and left, but he came back the next day and lands on me, and i see him around the block quite often, and he would come sit on my shoulder for a few minutes and then fly away again. i feel like i’ve adopted a son. Best birbs !! your son is Beautiful and Strong every time I see this post it has different crow stories and every time I reblog it again because all crow stories are good stories Such little cutie pies 😍 not to be cliché but crows are 100% my favorite birbs

Memes, Politics, and Apathy: "You're gonna be happy," said life, "but first I'll make you strong." Yoy were given this life because you are strong enough to live it. You said you were going to improve as a human being last year, I know a lot went on and you didn't quite make the changes, you promised yourself and your family. The seasons change, the earth changes, you must also change. For life is change and change must come. The most important question you can ask yourself is this; Are you happy? Did you spend the last year happy, or were you depressed? Were you stressed? (Aka a city dwellers way of saying they are unhappy) Or did you spend the whole year relaxed and at peace with your existence. Happiness is transient, just like time itself. Living life moment to moment is the best way to maintain sanity. The more moments you spend happy, the better your quality of life will be. What are you going to do this year to be happier? Some of the simple things you can do: Stop f*cking people you don't like for reasons you don't know. Stop Drinking alcohol, sugar, excessive amounts of caffeine. Stop smoking, just stop it, lung cancer is not cool or fun. Start exercising, It doesn't matter how you do it, but you have been saying you are going to get fit for the whole of your adult life, sort it out or stop chatting sh*t. Start eating clean, healthy and nutritious foods, how are you going to have inner harmony when you poison your body everyday. Love without conditions, conditions for yourself or others, obviously don't let someone disrespect you, but the way you are going you are acting emotionless, you are to end up alone, for fear of being hurt. Get involved in politics, activism and positive social movements; you can make a difference, apathy will leave you feeling depressed. Everybody is human so you can change things for the better if you want to. Start today, for tomorrow isn't promised. There are so many things that I have done to affect myself and others positively, because this is how you find happiness :) chakabars
