Fucking, Life, and Love: copperbadge When I first got out of grad school, I couldn't get a job in my chosen profession and honestly, I wasn't sure I wanted one, but what else was I good for? I was iving with my parents, I felt that l'd failed at the age of 24, and I knew exactly how to kill myself in the most painless way possible, because I was considering it and had done research. I had clinical depression and I didn't figure the rest of my life would be worth a damn even if I managed to make something of myself which seemed unlikely Fifteen years later, I woke up in a home I own, that I painted myself, with two big couches and ten big windows and a lamp that looks like a star. I fed two kittens, cooked breakfast and prepared lunches for the week while listening to podcasts, and tended my windowsill garden where the paprika have fruited, the bromeliad is still trying to murder the poppies, and the squash are starting to blossom. My email inbox was full of messages from people I love. My duties for the day are discharged. I plan to spend Sunday resting, playing with my kittens, and maybe strumming a little ukulele. Today is my own to do with exactly as I like in a place I have made exactly to my specifications. I can't guarantee that everyone who feels like they're dying at 15 or 21 or 24 or 29 will get this life that I got. I know I've been lucky, and even with luck, my life's not perfect. But I'm 38 and today is such a good day that I can't believe I almost didn't get to have it because I thought my life was over at 24 It was a fucking war to get here, but the war was worth it, so. I just figured today was a pretty nice day to share that. Some hard years, a good day.

General Mvlis RLAVORS Honey, Nut Cheerios NATURALLY FLAVORED HELP BRING BACK THE BEES 110 cheerios Where's Buzz the Bee? Buzz is missing because there's something serious going on with the world's bees. Bee populations everywhere have been declining at an alarming rate', and that includes honeybees like Buzz
scrollwing:

godsinthemountains:

stability:

THIS IS DOPE S/O TO CHEERIOS

Please! Do not order these packages please please please no

There are way too many reblogs on this saying things like “DON’T EAT HONEY” because you think if the bees have more honey it’ll help them. You guys have no knowledge of Bee Keeping. If you’re going to run and apiary, you are going to be spending a lot of time, effort, sweat, tears, blood and money in making sure those bees are healthy. And if you are earning enough from selling the excess honey that your bees make, you will want them to swarm, or artificially swarm, so you can greatly increase the bee population, take care of more bees, and make more honey.

Here’s some basic facts about Bee Keeping and how it helps bees.

One of the biggest challenges to keepers and biggest benefits to bees is pest control inside the hive. Bees can get mites that will kill an entire hive. Bee Keepers can easily treat a hive who have been infested by mites, much more effectively than bees can treat it themselves in the wild. Wild bees will simply remove dead bodies with mites on them, or sometimes abandon a hive that’s infested. Hiveless bees die, or find a new hive if they’re lucky, and if they do, they spread the mites, killing another hive. Bee Keepers mix up a little clove oil into a sugary treat for the bees. Clove oil is harmless to bees and deadly to mites. A little bit of this treatment can easily save a hive. The hard part if catching the infestation before it gets bad. To do that you need the time to be able to afford a thorough examination of your hives, or to hire more hands trained to help you do that. Which means, buy honey to fund this.

Bee Keepers who are earning enough from their hives help increase the population of bees. As I touched on above, if you’re making a lot of money, you can afford more hives. They way you do this is to let a hive swarm, or artificially cause a hive to swarm. Both of these break the hive into two hives, both have half the bees form the original hive, then they bee keeper helps them grow back to full population. A good bee keeper can even help control the type of population a hive has, meaning more drones, or even prompting more queens, which will start new hives via artificial swarming. If a bee keeper isn’t making enough money to expand their hives, they are often forced to prevent swarming, which does not grow the population.

Bee Keepers will only ever take enough honey so the bees will thrive, and never starve. And if they have to take more honey for some reason (tainted honey, damage to the hive, etc) they will always supplement the hive with extra feed, often in the form of sugar water or honey from a different hive who’s made excess. Running a hive or 12 is expensive, and you need to protect your investments. No keeper would ever take more honey than they need from a hive.

I could keep going with reasons why you should buy honey to help bees and keepers alike, but I’ve kept my family waiting on me for 10 minutes writing this out and I’ve got to go. I’m not a bee keeper, but I’m pretty well informed on the topic, and I wouldn’t mind giving it a go some time in the near future. If you’ve got questions I’d be happy to help answer them, or give you a resource to learn yourself.

A nice youtube channel I follow has a guy who knows his bees, and does many of the things I talked about here. I recommend watching him, he’s a good guy and a great teacher of many things. His name is Cody, of Cody’s Lab, here’s a link: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKhDkilF5o6_pFucn5JHd6xy7muHLK6pS

This was literally the lesson of Bee Movie did we learn nothing?
