Books, Deer, and Gif: LaShyra "Lash" Nolen @LashNolen Today we learned about Lyme disease and it's classic symptom: a bullseye rash (erythema migrans) formed around the area of a tick bite. A classmate of mine asked, "How is this diagnosed for those with darker skin?" Our professor struggled to give him a clear answer. 1/5 11:50 AM Oct 8, 2019 Twitter for iPho ne 2.1K Likes 845 Retweets LaShyra "Lash" Nolen @LashNolen 13h Replying to @LashNolen After class I decided to google what we learned to see what images came up. I wasn't surprised by what I found: a homogenous representation of the bullseye rash on white skin. . It's no wonder our professor didn't have a good answer to answer my classmate's question. 2/5 bullseye rash lyme X IMÁGENES TODOS SHOPPING NOTICIAS Más recientes Producto HD GIF it tick bites erythema migrans deer tick t1 37 1 323 LaShyra "Lash" Nolen @LashNolen 13h I'm learning more and more that medicine is taught in a way that is often times exclusionary and the treatment and manifestation of disease in those with melinated skin is treated as an afterthought, a "special case" of illness that students must do extra work to understand. 3/5 ti 140 2 785 LaShyra "Lash" Nolen @LashNolen 13h This left me with the following thoughts: 1. If stage 1 Lyme disease is taught to be recognized as a rash on white skin, how are we supposed to diagnose Lyme disease in our darker skinned patients? Does this mean Lyme disease will progress to later stages in these patients? 4/5 t 81 608 LaShyra "Lash" Nolen @LashN olen 13h 2. How does this later detection contritubute to the disparities we see in healthcare and what can we do in #med Ed to reduce these disparities and ensure students have the tools necessary to treat and diagnosis patients of all skin types equitably? 5/5 unfriendly-black-hijabi: wahtdahel: Most of the medical research was done on white males and their response to medicine. This is why medical books should only serve as a framework but clinical expertise matters more. And this is why we need more black doctors. Black people are more likely to die from skin cancer for the same reason. It’s just diagnosed later.

Friends, Head, and Monster: HE WAS CERTAIN THE FAT LADY SITTING NEXT TO HER WOULD RUIN HIS FLIGHT. BUT WHAT SHE DID NEXT IS PRICELESS Hi! How are you?" The woman smiled as she took the seat beside me. She had to lower herself slowly, squeezing her ample bottom into the seat, filling all available space. Positioning herself comfortably, she plopped her enormous arm on our common armrest. Her immensity saturated the space around us, shrinking me and my seat into insignificance. I cringed and reclined towards the window. She leaned towards me and repeated her greeting in an upbeat, friendly voice. Her face towered above my head, forcing me to turn to look at her. "Hi," I replied with obvious loathing. I turned away to stare out the cabin window, sulking silently about the long hours of discomfort I was going to experience with this monster beside me. She nudged me with her meaty arm. "My name is Laura. I'm from Britain. How about you? Japan?" "Malaysia," I barked. "I'm so sorry! Will you accept my heartfelt apology? Come, shake my hand. If we're going to spend six hours side-by-side on this flight, we'd better be friends, don't you think?" A palm waved in front of my face. I shook the hand reluctantly, still silent. Laura started a conversation with me, taking no notice of my unfriendly reactions. She talked excitedly about herself and her trip to Hong Kong to see her frinds. She rattled off a list of things she was going to buy for her students in the boarding school where she was teaching. I gave her one-word answers to her questions about me. Unperturbed by my coldness, she nodded as she made appreciative comments to my answers. Her voice was warm and caring. She was considerate and obliging when we were served drinks and meals, making sure that I had room to manoeuvre in my seat. "I don't want to clobber you with my elephant size!" she said with utmost sincerity.
Man Is Certain The Fat Lady Sitting Next To Her Would Ruin His Flight. But What She Did Next Is Priceless.

Cars, Drunk, and Energy: Ramona Flour@RamonaFlour 14h 1. Being a woman is kind of like being a cyclist in a city where all the cars represent men. Ramona Flour@RamonaFlour 14h 2. Even if you DO use the cycle lane because it is “Safer for you” A lot of times there are obstacles and other things in the way to make it more difficult to navigate. 10. Sometimes cars will honk or swerve at you for their entertainment and the drivers will laugh when you react defensively, because they’re safe in their car and don’t realize how dangerous that looks to you on your bike. 11. Some places have much better cycling lanes than others, which is good for those places! But it doesn’t fix the unequally-shared-road problem and really underlines how cyclist-unfriendly other places are. 12. The Door Zone in general. Will every parked car slam a door open directly into your path as you’re passing? No, of course not. Do you have to watch every parked car for opening doors anyways? Yes! Because even one surprise crash into a suddenly appearing door can lead to injury, sometimes serious, or even death.

Asian, Cars, and Respect: Jon Tsuei @jontsuei 17h Ok, I have some thoughts. Bear with me if you would. 2.1K 2.2K Jon Tsuei @jontsuei 17h l've been seeing a lot of defenses for the ScarJo casting that seem to lack a nuanced understanding of a Ghost In The Shell as a story. 867 910 Jon Tsuei @jontsuei 17h The manga came out in 1989, the first film 1995. An era whenJapan was considered the world leader in technology 900 986 Jon Tsuei @jontsuei 17h Everything hot in that era came out of Japan. Cars, video games, walkmans, all of that. It's not simply a scifi thriller. Not to me, not to many others 1.3K 1.5K Jon Tsuei @jontsuei 17h Respect the work for what it is and don't bastardize it into what you want it to be. 2.3K 3.2K surprisebitch: Dear DreamWorks Studios, As moviegoers and fans of the original 1995 Ghost in the Shell film, we respectfully request that you cast an actress of Japanese descent for the lead role of Motoko Kusanagi rather than Scarlett Johansson. The American film industry is already unfriendly to Asian actors without roles in major films being changed to exclude them. One recent survey found that in 2013, Asian characters made up only 4.4% of speaking roles in top-grossing Hollywood films. Please use this opportunity to help talented Asian-American actors receive recognition for their work. There are so few opportunities for them to shine in Hollywood, and this film would be a perfect platform. Sign the petition and boycott the movie if no change takes place.
