This is what you say when someone thinks Prohibition and DARE were good ideas.: I wish people understood that outlawing a thing and punishing people for doing it does NOT actually guarantee that people will stop doing the thing. Sometimes it does, but people are complicated. In fact, if you are trying to stop a bad thing from happening, so you put penalties in place if people do something that you think contributes to your problem, often the thing will keep happening and your problem will get WORSE. It's often because you haven't really understood what the problem is, or the law wasn't actually intended to achieve that goal and politicians are just lying and saying it is. Just because a thing is bad does not mean punishing people for doing it or things related to it will stop it from happening. You have to actually see if it's been tried and if it worked. Outlawing the sale of alcohol did not cause a reduction in urban poverty, crime, or domestic violence. It led to an era of gangsters and rampant organized crime. Abstinence-only sex education makes teens more likely to have sex younger, while teaching them about safe sex causes a longer delay before becoming sexually active, better protection against sexual assault, and less teen pregnancy. You can't just outlaw things and expect them to go away! It's more complicated than that! Ok. Except... Prohibition did decrease alcohol use substantially. It may have caused an increase in crime, and maybe that outweighs the benefits, but it did successfully reduce drinking quite a lot actually. Abstinence-only sex education is a completely different plan to outlawing sex. It's more analogous to DARE (which, similarly, increases drug use IIRC.) Oh boy, THAT article. It's so very... 1989. So very "the war on drugs is a good thing actually". I had to use my library's full text source to read it the first time because it really does boggle came across mind with its selective use of facts. For example, the article says: "Cirrhosis death rates for men were 29.5 per 100,000 in 1911 and 10.7 in 1929." Wow, that's quite a change. If that were due to Prohibition preventing heavy drinkers from contracting a fatal disease, that would be really cool! Except it's ignoring one little confounding variable: Did the rate go down because drinkers were living happier, more sober lives, or because they died of something else? Like, oh.. drinking poisonous industrial alcohol because it was the only alchol they couldget? There was an especially large spike of deaths from methylated spirits in 1927. So it's actually just as likely that 1929 had so few cirrhosis deaths because they'd already killed off the serious drinkers. Which is why "peak 80s". It's in perfect line with that era's approach to both AIDS and the harms of drug prohibition. Let's ignore the actual lived experiences of affected people! :) If we sit on our asses long enough the problem will take care of itself! :) Let's just ignore the crisis until they all die! :) At its very start, Prohibition reduced drinking levels to 30% of what they had been. However, after a few years, drinking soared back to 60-70% of what it had been, and as soon as it ended, people resumed drinking exactly as much as before. That. Is. A. Failure. We see a direct parallel to the opioid crisis and fentanyl deaths in modern day; as addicts cannot access clean and safe drugs, they turn to street drugs, which are often impure heroin or cut fentanyl. Therefore, instead of living as prescription drug addicts, or being treated with something effective like Heroin-Assisted Therapy, they die of overdoses. The best outcomes we see on drug addiction come from Portugal and Switzerland, two countries that have completely decriminalized drugs. And finally... abstinence-only sex education is the practice of the laws of a lot of Western countries until the 20th century, which was that all sex except monogamous heterosexual married sex was illegal. So while yes, it's the education wing of that worldview and not actual laws against fornication and sodomy, but it's still entirely cohesive with the whole. This is what you say when someone thinks Prohibition and DARE were good ideas.

Death Stranding explaining 5he need for fake internet points: Trde: Likes Secrete Oxytocin When: Who: drome Four Years Ago Die-Hardman oblem? Logistics Wrere: Bridges HQ periments Between Central and Capital I Before the Stranding, the whole world was connected. There were networks-"social networks" we called them-that people used to communicate all the time. They shared all sorts of stuff through them. A random thought, a pretty picture, a home movie-you name it. And if you liked something that someone else had uploaded, you let them know by giving them, well, a "like." Sounds weird, I know, but that's the truth. Eventually, someone ran tests on the users of these networks and discovered that receiving a "like" triggered a rush of oxytocin. The theory was that it stemmed from a sense of being acknowledged. Even though you couldn't see the person you were interacting with, it still felt like they were accepting you, praising you. And who wouldn't like that? But that same process is at the heart of the MULE phenomenon. It's believed that an overdependence on the oxytocin rush provided by these kinds of interactions is a factor in porters going rogue. With this in mind, it wouldn't be wrong to characterize MULES as oxytocin addicts. In essence, they're social animals at the mercy of validation. periments Between Central and Capital II ers nt Egyptian View of Life and Death Death Stranding explaining 5he need for fake internet points
