Leonardo DiCaprio Calls Out Trump For Refusing to Acknowledge Climate Crisis; Says Hurricanes Should Be a Wake-Up Call โ€“ blogged by @MsJennyb โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € On Tuesday, LeonardoDiCaprio called out the Trump administration for their neglect to recognize the seriousness that is climate change. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € DiCaprio discussed the warnings about the realities of the climate crisis during a speech at the Yale Climate Conference, saying: โ€œQuite simply, we are knowingly doing this to ourselves, to our entire planet, and weโ€™re risking our very future. And the cost of our inaction these past couple weeks has become even clearer.โ€ โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € The actor and activist highlighted the recent natural disasters that have plagued the country, the Caribbean and Mexico, and used his platform to address the administrationโ€™s refusal to act on these important issues. DiCaprio also mentioned that he met with Trump late last year to discuss a plan to combat the climate issue, however, since then โ€œthe world has watchedโ€ Trump deny the important issue. โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ€œWe listened as they said that these powerful hurricanes that weโ€™re seeing with Harvey and Irma did not change the presidentโ€™s mind about climate change,โ€ he said. โ€œI still believe that the United States has the potential to lead the world on this issue. We can only hope that the president begins to see it to, before it is too late for all of us.โ€ โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € While, Trump is to blame for turning a blind eye to climate change, he is not the only one at fault. DiCaprio also called out Florida Gov. Rick Scott and Energy Secretary Rick Perry for their role in โ€œperpetuating the lie.โ€ โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ €โ € โ€œTime is up. The current events have become a global wake-up call that must be heard all the way from you to the private sector, all the way to Washington, D.C. It is too late for any of us to be timid, or too ignorant or too silent. We all have to take action together, now.โ€
