Ariel, Children, and Comfortable: Would it still be racist if Tiana was cast with a Caucasian woman, and we became livid at that? What if Mulan was cast with a Caucasian woman? Still racist if I get mad about that? Or does racism only apply in this instance because its the white people who are angered? Hypothetical situation: a little black girl LOVES this version of Ariel. She looks up to her. She wants to be her. She wants to meet her. She begs and pleads on her hands and knees to be taken to Disney World to meet Ariel. Let's say, for arguments sake, that they can only afford 1 day pass to 1 park. This little girl is SO EXCITED because she's about to meet her idol. They get to the meet and greet and....Ariel is white? This is not the Ariel this little girl knows and loves. This is not the Ariel that helped this little girl become comfortable in her own skin. They can't have two Ariel's because it will confuse children. I'm literally not allowed to cosplay in Disney World as certain characters because l could be mistaken by children as the face character. So, either they'll be hypocrites and have two versions of Ariel in the parks, or they're going to confuse and crush the dreams of many little girls. Did you consider any of these options before deciding that people who are upset about the casting choice are racist? This image also lends implications to the type of person my own mother is. Which is really a grave mistake. Did you not think about the children??!?
