Economists should be adept in their fields, how are they only now realizing that paying off our student debt is a fucking priority over anything else other than food? as someone with a degree in economics but who is a leftist  and also someone interested in science and  not unsubstantiated theoretical mumbo jumbo, and has had to fight and debate economists/economic students for four years- economics is in a state of crisis. It rarely as a field questions the system it is in and economics is ridden with scientifically debunked assumptions. We are not perfectly rational nor will we ever be yet economists create deductive models with this fatal assumption. This is why is almost always fails at mathematically formalizing human behaviour, because science tells us that humans are not actually as rational as economists claim they are. Moreover it’s only been relatively recently that economists (mostly behavioral economists) have actually listened to science and considered the facts of cognitive biases when creating models of human behavior and choice. Another problem is that economists are philosophically naive. They rarely challenge their assumptions and they are prone to theory induce blindness. They focus too much on personal choice while ignoring or underplaying other relevant factors. Economists are also pressured to support capitalism since they still jerk off Adam Smith as if he was some god. GQ just came in the mail and for the first time in a long while it had a really important article… I just sat here for like the last half hour reading this and I’m incredibly appalled at our justice system in regards to the military. The article interviews about 23 men who have all been sexually assaulted in some branch of the military. The PTSD from sexual assault in the military is more prevalent than PTSD from combat… If you have a chance I suggest reading this article…and the title is a quote that one of the victims Doctor told him… Hey guys! I’m very impressed and extremely happy to see this post gaining a lot of speed over the last few days! A few people have requested it, so i’ve gone ahead and scanned the pages of the article for those who want to read it, to read.  So, here it is! Wow. Very powerful stuff. I’ve had quite a few friends from back home enter the military and this is never something we bring up in discussions. I’m glad it’s garnering more attention.  Some quotes: “The moment a man enlists in the United States armed forces, his chances of being sexually assaulted increase by a factor of ten. Women, of course, are much more likely to be victims of military sexual trauma (MST), but far fewer of them enlist. In fact, more military men are assaulted than women— nearly 14,000 in 2012 alone.” “Military culture is built upon a tenuous balance of aggression and obedience. The potential for sexual violence exists whenever there is too much of either.” “Trent Smith, Air Force, enlisted 2011: “He was a senior aide— he had a direct line to the top. Being invited voer to his house, I just took it as I should go. Looking back, I as myself, Why didn’t you do anything? It wasn’t like he held me down or tied me up. I didn’t want to cross him. I really didn’t feel like I had any choice. I had just turned 19. It could be my career. I froze and went along with it.”“ “Rsearch suggests that the military brass may have conspired to illegally discharge MST victims by falsely diagnosing them with personality disorders. “The military has a systemic personality disorder discharge problem,” write the authors of a 2012 Yale Law School white paper. Between 2001 and 2010, some 31,000 servicepersons were involuntarily discharged for personality disorders. It is likely that in many cases these were sham diagnoses meant to rid the ranks of MST victims.” “Jeremy Robinson [name changed], Army, 1970-1972: “I have very little memory of my time in the psychiatric ward, because I was so heavily drugged. I stopped eating. I became suicidal, and I made three attempts. They gave me shock treatments against my will. The diagnosis was paranoid schizophrenia. I bore that label for forty years before the VA finally admitted they had misdiagnosed me.”“ “Above all, MST victins keep quiet because they do not believe their attackers will be punished. And they’re almost certainly right. The conviction rate in MST cases that go to trial is just 7 percent. An estimated 81% of male MST victims never report being attacked. Perhaps it should astonish us that any of them do.” “Mike Thomson, Marines, 1997-1999: ”I wasn’t “afraid” to report it— I was ashamed and disgusted. Guys aren’t supposed to be raped. I didn’t want to tell anybody about it. I didn’t want to say anything.”“ “Men develop PTSD from sexual assault at nearly twice the rate they do from combat. Yet as multiple research papers have noted, the condition in men is egregiously understudied. This is because so few men tell anyone. Those who do often wait years; many male participants in therapy groups are veterans of Korea and Vietnam. At Bay Pines’ C. W. Bill Young VA Medical Center in Florida, the country’s first residential facility for men suffering from MST, the average patient is over 50 years old at admission.” So GLAD the word is spreading!  How to talk about really important issues without derailment So hey, yeah, this is how you do it people. erikalynae: Gather round kids while I explain this manipulation tactic that men perpetually try to use and why it’s bullshit. If someone is openly showing interest in you by making disparaging or disappointed comments about your age, they’re trying to put you on the defensive. This guy wants me to try to quell his discomfort, to bring up that I’m only a month shy of 20, etc. - he wants me to try to prove myself to him, that I’m mature and adult enough for a man like him. His goal is to establish a power imbalance right off the bat. If we were to date, I would constantly be on the defensive, constantly striving to be an equal, constantly trying to prove my “adult” credentials. Anything he says or does or wants from this point on that I object to would just be seen as a strike against my age, proof that he was right and that I’m not mature enough for him. This is how SO MANY men pressure younger individuals (primarily women and girls) into situations and relationships they aren’t comfortable with. If he truly thought I was too young for him, he wouldn’t have messaged me. This is a very calculated move, and it’s fucking gross. Adult relationships with age gaps are completely fine, but only if all parties view each other as equals. If someone is trying to set you up in a way that ensures that’s never a possibility, run far away. : 75% 4% 25 Chicago, IL Match Enemy I don't like that you are 19 Sent Yesterday Block them Report ...okay? How to talk about really important issues without derailment

Good guy Legolasomg-humor.tumblr.com: hear the air moving ih the Riders! cried Aragorn, springing to his feet. Many riders on swift steeds are coming towards us!' Yes,' said Legolas, 'there are one hundred and five. Yellow is their hair, and bright are their spears. Their leader is very jeza-red edgebug morganne This isn't a fucking competition Legolas Any time anyone says Tolkien isn't funny, I bring up this scene To put it in context, Aragorn is a ridiculously good tracker. He had just been literally lying flat on his belly on the ground, his ear pressed to the dirt, so he could listen for footsteps of the army that was way, way out of sight. We're talking miles away, here. Aragorn was listening to the ground. And from that, he figured out that there were a lot of riders, on hecka fast horses, heading right towards them, with the intention of fucking their shit up. Pretty badass, right? Cue Legolas, a k.a. You Little Shit. Legolas is an elf. His eyesight and hearing is ridiculously good. Like, it puts any human's to shame He literally let Aragorn lie there on the ground and strain to hear footsteps in the distance for no reason. And when Aragorn got up the little shit drove the point home by saying "Oh yeah, I see them, I've seen them this whole time, there's a hundred and five of them, oh yeah and they're all blonde and they're carrying spears nbd Cue Aragon gritting his teeth in frustration and Legolas smirking like the sassy pointy-eared fuck that he is This may actually be my favorite part of LOTR okay But WHAT IF, okay, what if What if Legolas had NO FREAKING IDEA what Aragon is doing by laying on the ground like that? So the Man goes fdown and the Elf and Dwarf both look at him, like wt Aragorn, are you okay? And he just keeps shushing them, so they shrug and look at each other in awkward helplessness and wait to see what this is all about And when Aragorn finally gets up and tells them about the riders, Legolas is so grateful that he just blurs out the info, because fuck it man, you are alright, I thought you ve lost it or broke your spine or something, hold me Gimli, I am too old for this adventure business Good guy Legolasomg-humor.tumblr.com
